Chapter 58 - Chapter 58 The Cheat Code Gained by His Sister's Life

"My dear sister."

"We were found by the priest in front of the St. Paul's Community Church in Queens."

"We only had a piece of paper with our birthdates on it."

"Hawk and Anya, those were the names given to us by the priest."

"Anya loved her name."

Leaning against his sister Anya's tombstone, Hawk didn't ask Gwen how she found them.

That would have been a stupid question.

Hawk spoke softly, as if afraid of disturbing his sister Anya.

"Anya was happy."

"Happy from childhood to adulthood, even though she had a perforated heart and needed to be hospitalized from time to time, she was still happy."

Fortunately, he and his sister were orphans, so even though his sister needed to be hospitalized occasionally, he didn't have to worry about medical expenses.

Because the federal and state governments covered their costs.

As Hawke spoke, he glanced sideways at Gwen, who was sitting on the ground, leaning against her sister Anya's tombstone, mimicking his posture.

He couldn't help but chuckle, "Later, I sometimes wondered if it was because we became orphans and could receive free treatment that they abandoned Anya and me."

Gwen's lips twitched slightly at Hawke's words, then she shook her head.

"When they found you, weren't there any birth records?"

"No."

Hawke shook his head.

"The church people contacted hospitals in New York City, but none of them met the requirements. However, later a doctor said that Anya and I might not have been born in a hospital, but at home."

Childbirth at home is not uncommon in this country.

This is especially true in families with strong religious beliefs, and in some extreme cases, even if it results in a difficult childbirth and the death of both mother and child, they would rather not go to a hospital to give birth.

"But that's alright."

"I never even considered finding them. Since we chose to abandon them, we'll leave each other alone."

"Anyway, Anya and I don't have any nationality issues."

Hawke shrugged as he said this, then continued.

"Actually, at first, some people wanted to adopt us."

"But because Anya had a perforated heart, most families gave up."

"Father Moses was a good man, and he didn't want to separate me and my sister, so my sister and I stayed at the church until we were four years old. Father Moses was our guardian at the time."

"But then Father Moses passed away, and Anya and I went to the children's home."

"And then Anya and I grew up there."

The so-called children's home was a family-like residential facility where a dozen or so orphans lived, and staff from a non-profit organization took care of them.

Gwen frowned when she heard this.

"Haven't you found an adoptive family yet?"

"Who would want to?"

Hawke chuckled, looking at Gwen. "Once Anya leaves the system, she'll have to pay for her own medical expenses. I don't want to abandon my sister.

A foster family wouldn't have to worry about medical costs, but the environment there well, let's just say it's not ideal."

Adoption and fostering are fundamentally different.

Realistically speaking, most adoptive families are motivated by kindness, while foster families, while not all, are mostly driven by greed for federal and state government subsidies for orphans.

These foster families use fostering orphans to earn federal and state government subsidies, using money originally intended for orphans for their own daily expenses.

As for the orphans? As long as they don't die, that's fine.

Gwen had heard some foster family cases from George, so when she heard Hawke's disdain for foster families, she nodded in agreement.

"And then…"

Gwen asked, glancing at the date on Anya's tombstone:

May 20, 1995 – September 10, 2009.

Gwen looked away, glancing at the surrounding tombstones before turning to Hawke: "I remember most of the tombstones here are for those who died in the battle between Hulk and Abomination in New York City…"

A cold glint flashed in Hawke's eyes, but quickly disappeared. He looked at Gwen and nodded.

"Yes."

''Anya didn't die from illness; she died in the aftermath of that night's battle."

Sure enough.

After hearing Hawke's confirmation, Gwen thought to herself, and at the same time, she understood something.

"So all these years you've worked so hard, for..."

"Revenge!"

Hawke turned to Gwen, forcing out the words through clenched teeth, a vengeful flame surging from the depths of his eyes: "I repay kindness with kindness, and I avenge wrongs with wrongs!"

He was an orphan in his past life, and although he was an orphan in this life as well, he had a younger sister who had been with him since childhood.

So even though he suddenly found himself in a different world, even though this was still the Marvel Universe, and he didn't have a system at the time, he didn't feel particularly lost.

Hawke had always been content.

So he never thought about causing trouble in the Marvel Universe; his dream had always been to be content with what he had.

No system? No system? He couldn't just give up without it.

Hawke studied diligently, maintaining his academic advantage even in public school.

This caught the attention of the admissions officers at Midtown High School, who gave him a scholarship, allowing him to transfer from the more relaxed public school to a private one.

His plan was simple: study hard, find a good job, and earn money to treat his sister's illness.

So on September 10th, 2009, his first weekend at Midtown High School, he took his sister to Times Square, took a photo, and documented what Hawke thought would be a turning point in their lives, a memory they would cherish.

And it was a turning point.

Just a really damn dramatic one.

That day, after shopping with his sister Anya, Hawke was about to leave by bus when disaster struck.

Abomination appeared, then Hulk appeared.

The two monsters instantly engaged in a fierce battle.

Hawke had always found the fight scenes in movies exciting, but only by being there in person could he see what lay beneath.

Screams.

Howls, wails—in the fight between these two monsters, ordinary people had absolutely no chance of survival.

Hawke was among them, pulling his sister Anya along with the crowd, trying to escape.

Then…

Hulk slammed Abomination against a building, and collapsing debris rained down on them.

That night!

Hawke lost his sister.

At that moment!

Hawke's cheat code activated.

Envious?

He got it at the cost of his sister's life.

The hatred for killing his sister is irreconcilable.

Hawke will avenge
