Chapter 33 - Technical Wire-Diagram

The Void-Kin Scout raced through the dark plaza, limbs extending as it honed in on Taryn Sol.

Marcus dropped low into a predatory stance, refusing to let hesitation slow him. His silver eyes tracked the beast's approach through the sickly green light. He took a left-forward southpaw stance. His boots echoed on the stone floor.

"Taryn! Left axis! Flare the flank!" Marcus commanded, his tone steady and authoritative.

The rogue alchemist reacted with the frantic speed of her past. Instead of a typical projectile, she timed her strike with his movement. She unleashed a hyper-pressurized, sigil-charged catalyst into the air. Blinding, smoky red heat engulfed the space, filling the air with the sharp scent of sulfur and ozone.

This searing heat didn't target the Scout; it masked Marcus's advance.

Lysara Veyn pushed her staff ahead. Her forearm sigil shone with deep Ecliptic energy. She opened two portals at the edges. This trapped the creature and stopped it from escaping into the shadows.

The fire and portals enclosed the Scout in a lethal geometric trap.

Marcus closed the distance from the left. Before impact, his perception shifted. The plaza morphed into a schematic.

Each opened sigil caused disorientation. The Shattering mark on his palm didn't grant him power, as the chants suggested. Instead, it revealed a complex design. Behind his eyelids, he saw a faint afterimage. Glowing conduits branched in different directions. Some were original to Marcus Reed, while others were foreign and scorched. They were undeniably his, but they didn't align. They ran parallel, crossing at odd angles, sparking where they met.

This wasn't mere spellcasting, he realized. It had occurred on a lower floor, where risks were minimal. This is wiring. Someone placed a soul into a chassis not meant for it. Half the harness doesn't fit.

The detective named it before the fighter could react: a Systemic Inversion. A puzzle masquerading as power. His Earth-born will was the energy. Marcus Reed's left-handed nervous system formed the wiring. Each time he used a right-handed override, he pushed energy through a conduit that couldn't take it. The delay wasn't clumsiness; it was resistance, a physical reality disguised as fate.

So, instead of overriding the schematic, he rewired it. In the short break between Taryn's flare and Lysara's closing portals, Marcus searched for the right path. He didn't fight the left-dominant current. Instead, he followed his intention, guiding it junction by junction. It felt like following a wiring diagram in an empty apartment. You found out which breaker controlled each outlet. He ceased trying to use a right-handed manual override. The latency vanished, and energy flowed smoothly. Every spark at the junctions ignited brilliantly.

With twin daggers drawn in a fluid motion, Marcus felt in sync with his body. He was no longer an observer. He was the weapon, moving harmoniously with the Spire's internal circuit. He executed his strike with precision. The wiring finally connected, energy to energy, with no resistance left to burn.
