Chapter 17 - 17 Steaming Gold

"So my ability has weaker and stronger characteristics, the strongest is growth, and by assumption renewal is second strongest, which both together form a self healing ability, and lastly restoration, which i suspect if I lose something it will help me regenerate it back, forming my ability..."

"Lesser Regeneration."

Null dragged himself back to the bed, and fell limp on it.

He didn't speak to himself, monologue or contemplate anything.

His thoughts were quiet... Empty? No...

But quiet, as the lids of his eyes closed and opened repeatedly, and...

finally slowly shut.

...

..!!!!

"LIL OoooLIVEEEEE!!"

Null immediately jumped up, his hair standing straight up on his head, startled, eyes horrified.

Bang Bang Bang!!!!

His face went pale, that manner of knocking it might be him, noooo, it is him "No, no-no-no, please no!"

"WAIT! WHY AM I EVEN KNOCKING."

CREAK!! SCREEECH!! BOOM!

BAM!

Null looked at the scene in front of him, his mind blank, with a pale complexion and, unveiled shock and awe.

When he saw his Uncle run faster than anyone else, lift things heavier than anything he himself could ever imagine, stand like he can do it if he just tried.

He was never surprised.

Since he knew his uncle was strong, but he never thought.

how strong...

But now he glimpsed it, As a look of dawning set on his face.

Ron, stood a top the bent and mangled door, a grin willingly plastered across his face.

"Foods ready! Don't be sleeping till you eat something, you could die."

Null shaked his head, getting out of his stupor.

He leaned to the side a bit as he looked at the figure in the hallway, with a blinking light in one of his sockets, and the other one constantly on.

This seemed to be a imitation of a twitching eye, atleast Null suspected.

Then Null snapped his neck towards Ron, which made him flinch, looking into the frustrated and irritated gaze of his basically starving boy.

"Was that necessary!?" Null shouted at Ron, his eye seeming to begin twitching too.

Ron coughed into his fist and evaded the boys gaze, "Well, you see–"

"What do I see!?" Null interrupted, landing on the floor, his legs going weak for a second, before gaining what ever strength left in him back.

"Hey hey, let me finish atleast alright?" Ron said in a quiet yet soothing tone.

Olive just huffed.

"I, hmm, got carried away... I guess" Ron said shrugging.

"What!!!" Null shouted screaming and stomping forward, "YOU GOt ,caRried a-away~–" before Null could yell a ear full at his uncle, his body gave out as he fell forward.

"Woah there Lil Olive, told you, you could die." Ron said as he held up Null's limp body, "No worries though, i wouldn't let that happen on my watch." He said picking up and throwing olive over his shoulder.

"...i-i can't move..?" Null spoke faintly, as here and there he twitched from his efforts to move, never prevailing past that.

"Relax, you sack of olives, hmmm that's a nice one I'm keeping that." Ron said nodding to himself approvingly.

Midas, followed behind them, slight amusement and irritation still present from before.

Null didn't even groan in frustration at this point, he was too exhausted, he just couldn't today.

Slowly but surely they arrived at the kitchen. Surrounding the kitchen island were three golden chairs-

Null immediately groaned as his eyes landed on the chairs.

He was really about to be sick with this gold obsession...

Then his thoughts paused as he calmed himself.

He always loved beautiful things, intricate things actually.

Since something can be complex yet end up being confusing, resulting in the beauty being ignored for the sole reason to figure out what it even is.

Or rarely sometimes its just appreciated anyways.

So, without the agitation from starving and loss of bodily function, he looked at it again.

The chairs, were made out of a peach like wood with gold adorning it on the outside, the inside a comfortable cushion padding, light brown in colour.

There were three of these chairs surrounding the kitchen island, with decently large plates on it aligned with each chair.

Carefully so, Ron placed Null on the chair aligned with the largest serving on a plate.

A steak brown and steaming, with rice and gravy, on the side was mashed potatoes with cut up soft carrots and a salad drenched in sauce.

Null stayed limp in the chair as he stared at the food in disbelief, because the serving that was described was Midas's.

But his flooded the plate, mixing being a risk on its own, for the possibility of food falling out the plate.

And every serving on the plate had a spoon stuck in it.

Then slowly Null felt strength flood his body as he grabbed one of the stakes on his plate and stuffed his mouth with it, as he took a bite of the steak, again and again, with out chewing or swallowing.

Then he paused looking down at the food, his hair shrouding his face with the abused steak in his balled grasp.

As he chewed and chewed and chewed and...

Swallowed.

Shhhh~!

He began to heat up, as he stuffed food into his mouth continuously. Right after the steak disappeared he started using the spoon to shovel more of what was on the plate straight into his maw.

And pausing to chew and swallow, which caused the heat to grow and grow.

Till his plate was empty.

And him?...

He was boiling, whisps of steam came off his entire body, sweat pouring down.

He looked up, hair damp, as it revealed his face. It was better, his face regained it's lively colour and filled up with fat. He didn't look like a skeleton anymore, but now like a frail boy, yet he didn't notice the change, not yet.

"Uncle... I'm-I'm still hungry, can i have more please?" He rasped out, his throat dry.

Midas looked at this, stunned and still processing the scene before him-"Uhhhh!? What regeneration ability does that?!" Midas said baffled by the sight, he turned right at Ron as he spoke.

Ron, shoveled a spoon full of mixed rice with the salad and gravy, as he bit at the steak after a few bites of the mixed rice.

He chewed some more, then swallowed, "His, Regeneration ability..." Ron said standing up and grabbing Null's plate, he filled it back up, opening a cabinet he brought out a jug like he knew it was there.

He then poured water in it and placed both in front of Null.

Who didn't hesitate to gulp down the water than pausing, right after, he immediately began devouring the food.

His body didn't stop expelling the steam as he ate his second plate full.

Ron sat down and ate his food, like nothing was going on across from him. He paused then looked at him with a puzzled expression, he gulped down the food in his mouth and asked, "Ya haven't eaten, does it look bad or something?"

Midas looked at Null and stuck a finger at him, which Null didn't notice.

Ron looked at this with a raised eyebrow, "After dinner..." He answered.

Midas quirked his head at the soilder, and after a while he began eating.

Minutes passed.

Null having eaten 2 dishes, now he was on his 3rd.

His skin seemed to give off a slight shine and a pink hue, finishing his 3rd plate, Ron proceeded to fill it up again, with a jug of water in hand. Ron and Midas already ate their fill, Ron only just looked upon Olive as he gained a healthy layer of fat on him, while Midas kept thinking and thinking as then-!

Null stood up, plate clean and the jug near empty. He kicked the chair back as he sped off in the direction of his room.

Midas just looked at the scene, with a scrutinizing gaze, though you couldn't see it with the whole faceless situation.

Then he looked back at Ron, "Are you going to explain the scene, that akin to a starving pig, i just witnessed...?"

Ron stood up a smile on his face as he grabbed the plates and jug before he spoke, "Wait till his back, but we can talk about something else, about you maybe, since it's best i get a gauge on you."

Midas's eye began flickering again.

Ron just stood there a bit exasperated, "What got you irritated?" Ron asked as he then sighed, "Was it the door?"

Midas's eye began to flicker even more as he looked back.

"Why y'all care for that door so much?"

Midas's eye slowed it's flickering, as it stilled.

"First I'm more annoyed, than irritated, second it's more about you dodging my questions." Pausing to emphasize this as he glared at Ron, who was unfazed, just looking back, "Then the door, did you not see how it was made?" Midas asked in a plain tone, having given up on getting a serious reaction from the soilder.

Though beating Olive close to death seemed enough.

"Ya, I saw it, it was molded with a extravagants... I guess, never one to use bigs words." Ron said looking away from from the boy, walking towards the sink, pressing on a flat part of the tap twice, water pouring out, as it began to fill the sink. Then with a knowing intent, he opened a cabinet, pulling out a dish soap which he poured in the filling sink.

Midas looked at this tilting his head, "Have you been here before?"

Ron quirked a brow, grabbing a sponge and scrubbing at the dishes, "What sort of question is that?"

"A normal one." Midas replied back.

At this Ron chuckled, placing the washed plate to the side, as it floated like a disk in a video game. The plate seemed to be drained of the soap mixed water hanging on it, completely dried and still floating.

Midas didn't react to this, having seen this before multiple times, it was common, since it was part of every sink his seen and could think of. What sink did not have a dryer?

Pushing those thoughts aside, he was more interested in why the soilder was still chuckling.

"What's so amusing?" Midas asked.

Ron chuckled a bit more before speaking, "What i meant by 'What sort of question is that' was, don't you remember me telling you we'll be visiting places I've been in."

"Oh, than apologizes." Midas said.

"Forget about it, you just forget it's a small thing, we're all human after all." Ron replied placing the second plate to the side, as it floated and was drained of moisture.

Midas kept quiet after that.

He glanced at the gold adorning the chair, as he stared at ,something, human in the golden surface.

Minutes passed by before Ron chose to stop washing dishes.

Sighing he spoke, "I'll tell you why I broke the door, if you tell me why you care for it so much?"

"It's expensive." Midas answered.

"That all, just cause it costs a bunch of Alet's you got attached to it, just like that?"

Midas kept quiet then spoke, "Have you ever starved with no food in sight?"

"Yes." Ron answered.

"Then it's going to make it more easier for you to understand where i come from, I was above many in Chrome City." Midas said, looking up and reaching to the light that shined in the kitchen, "Then, i closed my eyes atleast in the way i do, then i opened them, filth, filth surrounded me that which was not alive and that, that was."

He said pulling his balled hand down, "I was torn from my former strength, my body burning from what I considered nothing in the past, given limbs that jerk and rust. It's pitiful."

Standing and pulling at his sleeve, his forearm caught the light, golden plated.

And chipped, green like growth and rust spread across it.

"I was fed, everyday, happy and content, and when you consider others had worse in the their beginnings, i seem to be a brat complaining about not being spoiled anymore."

"I..I can relate, more than you think." Ron spoke up, getting the pots, and scraping grim and the beginning of condensed fat with a spoon, saving what was left for tomorrow.

A dry chuckle came from Midas, a noticably rasp in it, and Ron didn't mention it and kept on with the mundane task, listening.

Midas, finally stopped chuckling and looked at the clothes he wore, it didn't belong to him, nothing he had belonged to him.

"... It's nice, to hear that one–can understand... and it brings me a guilt to find a smile in another suffering, yet i seek not to lie to you who i owe debt, as horrid as my truth is, you have promised me my face and I can only go along, unable to give you anything as you keep giving me, so i choose to tell you more about who you're leaving your son with."

Placing the pot on the countertop, Ron seemed to smile, "You don't owe me, not a chance that you do. You can keep your past, but neither will I say I'm not peaked by it. Keep my boy safe, and that will be enough, more than enough."

"I will." Instantly Midas agreed, gratitude apparent.

Ron seemed to be pleased with this response as he continued with his mundane "Go on then, I'm listening, since you seem chatty, a change from when we first met, though is a good thing with y'all temper? I wait to see."

"I think... there's always a chance for a better out come, than past ones."

Smiling Ron could only chuckle shaking his head.

Sitting down as the cushion yielded to his weight Midas continued on, "So, having been stripped of my former self, almost entirely." He said tapping his skull, "I was left with impure old, rusted gold plated cybernetics. I wasn't even mad, i expected it sooner or later."

"Really?" Ron asked.

Midas nodded, "A part of my family weren't really fond of me, yet i barely cared as i was gazed down at by..." Midas chuckled, "I did say I was above many, but there were few above me, far above."

Pausing Midas began to fall deeper into his past, "I had only pocket change, that ran out in a month and with the last of it I saved it for weeks, till i couldn't hold on any longer. Having been starved and tired i bought something to eat with the last of what I had."

He chuckled with the rasp that grew, Ron having now began to notice it, "And that day, when I spent all I had left for on a small meal, a kid... a kid! kicked it over and ran and ran, running to... well.

"Now."
