Chapter 947 - New Reports

The transition from the underwater calm to the arid reality of the surface imposed an immediate change in our posture. As we left the fine coastal sand behind and traveled along the dirt road leading to the outskirts of the capital of the Human Kingdom, the midday sun seemed to dissipate the last traces of the ocean's mystical atmosphere. The convoy of sleds adapted with wheels advanced at a steady pace, raising a thin curtain of dust that covered the sealed crates containing the precious medicinal corals and the algae from Sector Beta.

Our bodies, shaped by the crushing density of the mana of the depths over the past few weeks, experienced an almost unreal lightness on solid ground. Each step seemed to require only a fraction of the usual effort, and our group's travel speed surpassed any standard military marching average. We crossed the outer gates of the mansion's property without showing any sign of physical exhaustion, being greeted by the vigilant silence of the Alliance guards stationed along the peripheral walls.

As soon as we entered the main pavilion of the residence, I ordered the staff to immediately begin unloading the medical supplies into the climate-controlled underground storage rooms. There was no time for celebrations over our return or welcoming banquets; the urgency emanating from the reports we had received at the bottom of the sea still echoed in my mind, demanding concrete action.

My companions spread throughout the hall, reassuming their local strategic duties without the need for verbal commands. Elara headed directly to the central table, undoing the knots of the straps on the backpacks to retrieve the accounting scrolls she had brought from the marine kingdom, while Liriel and her assistant began deactivating the temporary hydrostatic barriers protecting the biological containment vials from the dry surface air.

"The atmosphere here is saturated with a heavy energy, Takumi," Liriel commented, resting her runic staff against the stone wall of the room and breathing slowly. "The mana of the surface does not have the stable purity of the ocean. I can feel the remnants of destruction spells floating in the wind currents coming from the north."

Her assistant silently nodded, arranging the last runic vials on the sorting shelf before sitting at the side counter to open a new field notebook. The learning she had acquired at the bottom of the sea had transformed her; she no longer displayed the hesitation she once had, operating with the precision of a true support specialist.

Lyannis and Rai'kanna collapsed into the leather armchairs near the unlit fireplace, relaxing their muscles after the long journey upward. Rai'kanna placed her heavy training blade against the arm of the sofa, looking at the ceiling with a serious expression. "The air up here feels thin after spending a month under all that pressure. I feel like if I punch this wall with the strength I was using yesterday, I'll bring the entire mansion down."

"Save that strength for the armies of demons knocking on our door, Rai'kanna," Lyannis replied, with a restrained smile that soon disappeared when Scarlett entered the hall carrying a leather armband filled with newly sealed documents.

Scarlett walked to the central table, throwing the papers onto the dark wood with a dry snap that drew everyone's attention. Vespera followed closely behind, her dark patrol clothes slightly stained by the dust from the road, indicating that she had already conducted a preliminary sweep of the area surrounding the property before we even entered the house.

"The situation on the surface is worse than the messenger reported in the depths," Scarlett declared, pointing to the largest of the scrolls, which bore the council of human generals' maximum urgency seal. "The official reports from the last forty-eight hours have just arrived through the magical carrier-pigeon system. The demonic attacks are no longer merely border incursions."

I approached the table, breaking the black wax seal on the document and spreading the tactical map across the counter. My eyes focused on the red ink markings spreading like a plague throughout the northern provinces. The Alliance's defensive lines, although still standing, showed points of severe structural instability.

"They changed their approach pattern," I observed, running my fingers along the supply routes connecting the capitals to the forward forts. "The Demon King has stopped sending massive hordes of stupid creatures. Now they are smaller, highly coordinated divisions, specifically focusing on burning grain warehouses and poisoning water wells in the rear of our troops."

Elara pulled up a chair, sitting beside me to cross-reference the data from the new reports with the consumption levels of our armies. "This is pure logistical strangulation, Takumi. They know that the Alliance depends on the stability of the agricultural provinces to keep the soldiers fed at the front. If these surgical attacks continue for another two weeks, the northern army will collapse due to a lack of provisions, without the demons needing to fight a single major field battle."

Vespera stepped forward, crossing her arms and maintaining her usual low, analytical tone. "My network of informants in the capital has confirmed that panic has begun spreading among the local merchants. The price of grain has risen thirty percent since yesterday morning. If the people realize that the royal warehouses are emptying, we will have civil revolts inside the walls before the enemy army even sees the watchtowers."

I looked at Scarlett, who kept her hand resting on the pommel of her sword, ready for any strategic deployment command. "How are our surviving soldiers in the field hospitals along the border?"

"They are holding on, but the runic healers are operating at their physical limit," Scarlett replied firmly. "The losses were contained due to the bravery of the infantry divisions, but the psychological strain and lack of rapid-regeneration medicines are taking a heavy toll. That is why the medicinal corals we brought from the Fish-Men Kingdom need to be processed and sent to the front lines today."

Liriel stood up, walking to the table to take responsibility for handling the marine resources. "My assistant and I will take care of distilling the coral extract in the mansion's laboratories. We can create the first batches of hydrostatic mana-stabilizing potions before nightfall. They will be capable of closing deep wounds within a few minutes, returning wounded soldiers to combat in record time."

"Perfect," I agreed, feeling the urgency of the decisions align with my group's readiness. "Elara, organize the transport escort for these potions using the safe routes Vespera mapped. We cannot lose a single wagon to enemy scouts."

I turned toward Scarlett, placing the new reports inside my command folder. The calm and isolation we had experienced in the depths of the ocean now seemed like a distant reality; the dust, the heat, and the imminence of direct combat on solid ground demanded that we immediately take political and military control of the situation.

"I will seek out the King of the Humans at the central palace without further delay," I declared, adjusting the buckles of my travel armor, which still carried the smell of sea salt. "We need to cross-reference this data with the movements of the other Alliance leaders and understand what the next move of the Military Council will be before the Demon King decides to close the final siege around our positions."

My companions lined up around me, with serious and determined faces showing that our journey of learning beneath the ocean had transformed us into an indestructible elite unit. We left the mansion's main hall toward the command carriages outside, officially ending the period of logistical transition and entering with total focus into the operational and decisive phase of the war for the survival of the continent.
