Tokyo had become a battlefield.
Sirens screamed through the ruined streets as evacuation alarms echoed from every district. Smoke curled into the red sky, mixing with drifting ash and sparks from burning buildings. The colossal shadow of the World Eater loomed overhead like a second horizon, its titanic limbs shifting with slow, unstoppable motion.
Below it, chaos raged.
Hundreds of combat units poured from the broken towers of Nebula Industries and surrounding facilities. Sleek humanoid machines with glowing crimson eyes advanced in disciplined waves, firing beams and missiles into the city as civilians fled.
But they were not unopposed.
Across rooftops and highways, the Masked Chargers fought back.
Blades of light carved through steel bodies. Energy blasts streaked across the sky. Riders from across the world clashed with the machines in brutal close combat, their armor glowing against the dim red atmosphere.
One Charger rode a lightning-wreathed motorcycle straight through a swarm of drones, the shockwave frying their circuits instantly. Another landed from the sky in a meteor-like crash, smashing a line of machines into scrap metal.
The Great War had begun.
At the center of the ruined financial district, Haruto landed heavily in the cracked plaza where he had fought the Herald only minutes earlier. Dust drifted around him as distant explosions shook the city.
Kenta skidded to a stop beside him, chainsaw blades still spinning along his gauntlets.
"Haruto!" he shouted. "What happened up there? That guy just vanished!"
Haruto didn't answer.
His gaze was locked on the sky where the World Eater continued descending.
The machine looked even larger now that it was closer. Massive armored plates formed continents across its body, thrusters glowing like artificial suns. Weapons the size of entire buildings rotated slowly along its arms and shoulders.
Elyra landed beside them with precise grace, her silver armor still humming with energy.
Kenta looked between them. "Okay… someone talk."
Elyra answered quietly.
"The Herald… revealed his identity."
Kenta frowned. "Yeah, we noticed the helmet broke."
"He is Haruto," she said.
Kenta blinked.
"What?"
"From another cycle of time," Elyra continued. "A previous version who survived countless resets of reality. According to his explanation, the universe has restarted over thirty million times."
Kenta stared at Haruto.
"Tell me she's joking."
Haruto's fists tightened, but he still didn't speak.
Lilith landed on the cracked pavement nearby, wiping black oil from her blade. Behind her, several destroyed robot units smoldered.
She didn't waste time.
"Existential crisis later," she said sharply.
Then she pointed upward.
A massive silhouette descended through the smoke-filled sky.
Their mech.
The giant humanoid machine slammed into the street several blocks away, its impact shaking the surrounding buildings. Its metallic armor gleamed silver and black, thrusters glowing along its back like a pair of mechanical wings.
The cockpit hatch opened as steam vented from its shoulders.
"Ride's here," Lilith said.
Mr. Yoshida's voice crackled through their comms.
"All units regroup immediately. Your target is the World Eater."
Haruto finally moved.
He looked up at the descending god-machine one more time.
Then he turned and sprinted toward the mech.
"Let's go."
The team rushed through the access hatch as alarms echoed through the cockpit.
Inside, the command room lit up with holographic displays and targeting systems. Each member slid into their control stations as the machine powered up.
Kenta cracked his neck while gripping the control levers.
"Alright big guy," he muttered to the mech, "let's punch a god."
Energy surged through the machine.
Outside, the mech rose to its full height.
It stood as tall as a skyscraper.
In any other battle, it would have been an unstoppable giant.
But compared to the World Eater, the difference was terrifying.
The Herald's machine towered above them like a mountain of steel. It was easily five times taller than the tallest skyscrapers in Tokyo, its silhouette stretching across the red sky like an iron continent descending to devour the Earth.
Mr. Yoshida's voice came again.
"All Masked Charger units will assist ground defense. Your mech team will engage the World Eater directly."
Haruto gripped the central control sword.
"Understood."
The mech's chest core ignited with bright blue light.
"Engaging target."
The giant machine bent its knees.
Then it launched forward.
Concrete exploded behind it as thrusters ignited along its back, propelling the mech into a full charge toward the approaching titan.
High above, the World Eater responded.
A massive arm lifted, revealing a blade the size of a suspension bridge.
Within its core chamber, Dr. Kaein Ardis—the Space Herald—stood at the control platform, surrounded by swirling cosmic energy.
His older face remained calm as he observed the incoming mech.
"So the cycle fights back again."
The World Eater moved.
Each step shook the atmosphere.
When the two giants finally collided, the impact thundered across the city.
Their blades met.
A shockwave tore through the surrounding clouds as metal scraped against cosmic alloy. Sparks and energy bursts exploded across the sky as the two colossal weapons pushed against each other.
Inside the cockpit, alarms screamed.
"Impact pressure rising!" Miles shouted.
Haruto pushed forward.
"Boost!"
The mech's thrusters roared to life.
Blue flames blasted from its back as the machine surged upward, lifting off the ground and carrying the battle into the sky.
The World Eater followed.
Its enormous thrusters ignited, pushing the titanic body upward with terrifying speed despite its size.
Within seconds both machines burst through the smoke layer of the city and climbed into the foggy grey clouds above.
Missile ports opened along the mech's shoulders.
"Missile volley!" Kenta shouted.
Dozens of rockets streaked across the sky toward the World Eater.
The giant responded instantly.
Missiles the size of cargo planes launched from its arms, colliding with the incoming barrage in massive midair explosions.
Firestorms lit up the clouds.
The mech dashed through the smoke, its blade flashing as it swung toward the World Eater's torso.
The Herald blocked with his colossal weapon.
Metal screamed.
Then the World Eater fired.
A barrage of energy bullets erupted from cannons along its shoulders, forcing the mech to dodge through the storm of beams.
Saskia activated countermeasures.
"Deploying bit drones!"
Small combat drones launched from the mech's back and scattered into the foggy sky, weaving between the clouds as they fired rapid energy bursts at the titan.
The battle climbed higher.
Soon the ground below disappeared completely beneath the thick grey cloud layer.
Two giants clashed in the heavens.
Blades swung with city-destroying force.
Missiles streaked like comets between them.
Gunfire flashed across the sky.
And far below, the war for Earth continued as Masked Chargers fought desperately to keep humanity alive.
Far below the clouds where the giants fought, the city had become a warzone unlike anything humanity had ever witnessed.
Tokyo's streets were no longer streets.
They were battlefields.
Concrete was cracked open like dry earth. Cars burned in twisted heaps. Entire sections of highway had collapsed under the weight of explosions and falling machines.
The ground was covered in two kinds of stains.
Dark human blood.
And black mechanical oil.
Masked Chargers fought everywhere.
Some clashed in narrow streets where towering buildings boxed them into brutal close-quarters combat. Others battled across rooftops as aerial machines swarmed like metallic hornets. Energy beams and explosions flashed through the smoky skyline every few seconds.
The battlefield was pure chaos.
A Charger from Germany swung a massive hammer infused with gravitational energy, smashing three robot units into scrap with a single blow. Nearby, a rider from Brazil fired arcs of green plasma from twin gauntlets, blasting through an incoming squad of drones.
But for every unit destroyed, more dropped from the sky.
The red rift above Tokyo continued to pulse ominously as mechanical reinforcements poured through.
Mr. Yoshida stood inside the Masked Charger command center, surrounded by holographic battle maps and scrolling telemetry. His normally calm expression had hardened into absolute focus.
"Deploying combat drones," he ordered.
Launch bays opened across several hidden facilities around the city.
Dozens of sleek military drones shot into the sky like a swarm of metal falcons, their engines roaring as they joined the fight. Their cannons immediately began firing into clusters of aerial units, carving temporary gaps in the robotic swarm.
"Support the ground teams and prioritize evacuation corridors," Yoshida continued. "Keep the skies clear."
Back in the city, the drones dove into combat.
Missiles streaked through the air.
Robot fighters exploded in midair fireballs.
But the enemy quickly adapted.
From the shattered Nebula Industries tower, the corporation's defense systems suddenly activated.
Panels slid open across the building's upper sections, revealing a massive cannon hidden within the structure.
A deep mechanical hum echoed through the battlefield.
Then it fired.
A colossal beam of red energy blasted across the skyline like a spear of pure light.
The beam tore through an entire squad of Masked Chargers who had been defending a nearby district. The shockwave alone sent several fighters crashing through buildings as the blast carved a burning trench across the city blocks.
Smoke and rubble exploded outward.
The robot army immediately surged forward, occupying the space the fallen Chargers had been defending.
"Hold the line!" someone shouted over the comms.
But the machines advanced relentlessly.
Several Chargers regrouped and counterattacked.
A masked warrior with ice-based abilities slammed his hands into the ground, freezing an entire street and trapping dozens of units in solid ice before shattering them with a single punch.
Another Charger summoned a storm of lightning that crashed down into a cluster of aerial drones, frying their circuits instantly.
Abilities clashed with machines everywhere.
Firestorms burned through robot battalions.
Energy barriers blocked incoming artillery.
Teleporting fighters appeared behind enemy lines, dismantling units before vanishing again.
Yet the numbers were overwhelming.
And the battlefield kept expanding.
Near the outer perimeter of the warzone, a group of Masked Chargers gathered near the broken entrance of Nebula Industries.
One of them pointed upward toward the massive tower.
"If we take out the building, we stop the reinforcements!"
Several riders nodded.
They began sprinting toward the tower, dodging gunfire and explosions as they pushed forward through the chaos.
But before they could reach it—
The sky darkened.
A swarm of aerial units descended from above.
Hundreds of sleek flying machines armed with rotating cannons and blade wings swept down like predators spotting prey.
Their engines screamed as they opened fire.
The advancing Chargers were forced to halt and defend themselves immediately.
Energy shields flared to life.
Missiles exploded around them.
One Charger attempted to leap through the air to break the formation, but three aerial drones intercepted him instantly, slamming him back into the street with brutal force.
The sky above the battlefield had become just as deadly as the ground.
Every direction was filled with enemies.
Every second demanded survival.
Across the city, exhausted fighters continued pushing forward despite the odds.
Oil sprayed from shattered machines.
Blood stained broken pavement.
The sounds of metal, explosions, and battle cries echoed through Tokyo like a storm that refused to end.
Veteran Chargers who had fought monsters, invasions, and disasters before were now facing something far worse.
A war of extinction.
Above the clouds, two giants continued tearing the sky apart.
And below them, humanity fought desperately to make sure there would still be a world left when that battle ended.
