It was a normal show during the current weeks Friday Night Knockdown show. Neither Black Mask, or any other member of the Dark Dynasty were scheduled to compete during the nights event. Though of course, they were all present backstage.
"Darling, as you know, today is our ten year anniversary. I know that it's slipped your mind the past nine years, but certainly you couldn't have forgotten it for a tenth year in a row. If that was the case then I would be convinced that you don't care about me at all." Night Queen said to Black Mask.
"Oh, of course I remember." Black Mask said as he thought of something on the spot. "In fact, as a gift I have scheduled us for a mixed tag team. Like we used to." He said waiting to see if she bought it.
"Darling that… is a lovely idea! It's been far too long since we've competed in the ring together. I'm so excited, I'm going to go and get ready." She said as she left.
"Good she bought it for now." Black Mask thought. "I don't have any idea what anniversary she could be talking about, but at this point of my plans I can't afford to lose such an important piece. If I have to give her a gift every now and then, then so be it."
The general manager of Knowdown, Aldrich Nix, just happened to be walking past him around this time. Black Mask stopped him so he could speak with him.
"Good, perfect timing. I need you to give me and Night Queen a mixed tag team match for tonight." Black Mask said.
"Well we can't do that tonight, but if you want I could book you a match for next week. The card is already booked for tonight." Aldrich told him politely.
Black Mask gripped him by the collar and pinned him to the wall. "I wasn't asking." He said intimidatingly.
"B-But we don't have anyone ready we'd have to find two people to take the match at the last minute."
"That sounds like your problem." Black Mask said as he dropped him to the floor. "Be assured that if you don't make this match happen, you will have a very very BIG problem."
The event went on for the regularly scheduled matches and during that time, Black Mask had not received any official notification that a match had been made.
"Darling I'm quite excited about our match. You haven't said who we're facing yet. I'd be interested to know who our opponents will be." Night Queen said.
"Well, I wanted it to be a surprise." Black Mask said as he tried to buy time.
At around the same time, Aldrich happened to be walking towards them. Luckily for Black Mask he had found them a match.
"You two will be facing Kenny Koa and Nova Knox in a mixed tag team match tonight. It may seem a bit random but it was the best I could do last minute." Aldrich told them.
"Last minute?" Night Queen asked. "You really shouldn't put your work off until the last minute. I'm sure that my darling would have given you plenty of time to prepare this match."
Aldrich exchanged a quick glance with Black Mask that told him what he wanted him to say. "Oh yes, of course. My apologies, I just got busy and I guess it slipped my mind." He said.
"Well, I think we can let you off the hook this time. After all, it doesn't really matter who we face." Black Mask said.
"I couldn't agree more darling."Night Queen responded, which made Black Mask breathe a sigh of relief. "The most important thing is that we're together in the ring."
The two teams made their way to the ring, much to the surprise of the crowd who thought that the event was over. They were a bit shocked at the sudden announcement of another match, but as fans of the sport they didn't mind staying to see another match. Especially one as intriguing as the one that was presented to them.
"I can't say that I know why we're having another match right now, but who can complain when we get to see the SWF Universal Champion and SWF Women's Champion in the ring together." Ted announced.
"I agree these two always perform great when they work together." Bill said.
"That's right, we haven't seen them compete together since they joined the SWF roster, but in their previous organizations they competed in Mixed Tag Team matches often, and like you said they always put on quite the show." Ted responded. "Let's see what happens as this match gets underway."
