Chapter 152: Little Violet

23 August 1996

Privet Drive, Number 4

"Hello, little Violet," Dudley whispered softly, grinning down at the tiny baby in the crib. The way he looked at Violet are like someone who had just discovered the greatest treasure in the world.

Violet Dursley, is Dudley new biological sister that born just a few days ago.

At first, Dudley had insisted on naming her Kara. He thought it sounded strong and simple because Kara is the character name of Supergirl but Petunia had shaken her head rejecting other suggestion.

"The Evans women," she had said, "were always named after flowers. I was born as Petunia Evans and my little sister sister had been Lily. So naming the girls as flower is our tradition, the family tradition."

And so began the day that they choose a flowers name and finally they had chosen Violet. Now, standing beside the crib, Dudley couldn't imagine her being called anything else.

His mind were on something else, just five days ago when she was first born, Dudley had been shocked and surprised seeing his little sister.

The image of baby are different then what he thought, because the baby on internet or movie is always cute and white. What he had seen in reality are different, she was red, wrinkled and honestly… a little scary-looking. He had been too afraid to say it out loud, but he remembered thinking she looked like a tiny angry goblin.

But now? Now her skin was soft and pale, her cheeks slightly pink and the wrinkles had completely smoothed out. Her tiny fingers curled and uncurled like she was testing the world. She was… beautiful.

Everyone in Privet Drive adored her just by looking at her face, Violet clearly receiving the best of both parents gene.

It wasn't just him who acted like and idiot, even Harry had spent nearly an hour just watching her sleep earlier. Susan kept volunteering to help the baby, Sirius pretended he wasn't looking, but Dudley had caught him making funny faces at the baby when he thought no one was looking. Even Amelia, who was usually all sharp eyes and strict posture, softened whenever she looked at Violet.

"Dudley, don't grin like an idiot," Susan teased from behind him, crossing her arms but smiling at Violet.

Dudley didn't even look back. "Hahaha… it's worth it to grin and become an idiot right now," he said happily.

Carefully, he reached into the crib and placed a small teddy bear beside Violet. It was pink teddy bear, chosen specifically for her.

"Look, Violet," Dudley murmured. "Big brother got this for you."

For a second, everything was peaceful.

Then... "Kyaa!"

Violet suddenly let out a sharp baby shriek.

And the teddy bear… lifted.

It floated.

Right there, In midair. Slowly floating and moved like it someone just a golem.

Everyone become silent, Dudley mouth fell open. Vernon froze halfway though he might stumbled if he was stand up, luckily he was sitting down. Petunia hands flew to her mouth. Harry blinked rapidly, Susan leaned forward in shock, Sirius straightened instantly, his playful expression gone and even Amelia eyes widened.

"…Dudley," Harry said slowly broke the silence. "Did you just use magic?"

Dudley shook his head immediately, hiseyes still glued to the floating teddy bear.

"No…" he said.

Then.... slowly, his grin returned.

"My little sister is a witch," said Dudley, voice full of excitement. "Like me."

Petunia let out a shaky breath, tears gathering in her eyes because of proud and happy that her second child won't be like her. Vernon looked like he didn't know whether to panic or celebrate. Sirius let out a low whistle.

"Well," Sirius muttered, "that answers that."

Harry stepped closer to the crib, eyes shining. "She's already doing accidental magic…"

Susan laughed softly. "She's going to be powerful."

Amelia crossed her arms, but there was warmth in her expression. "It is normal for a baby to do accidental magic."

The teddy bear gently dropped back into the crib.

Violet blinked, then yawned, like she had done nothing special at all.

Dudley carefully touched her tiny hand.

"Hey," he whispered softly. "Don't worry. Big brother here."

Everyone suddenly stepped forward, wanting to get a closer look at Violet after seeing her use accidental magic. Harry leaned in wanted to look at his cousin, Susan smiled brightly, and Sirius wanted to get closer too.

But Dudley quickly raised his arm, blocking them.

"Hey, hey.... give her some space," Dudley said, trying to sound firm, though there was clear protectiveness in his voice. "She's still tiny, you know."

He only stepped aside slightly for Petunia and Vernon, because this is his parent.

Petunia moved closer to the crib, her expression become soft. Thanks to the potion Dudley had given her last year, her body had remained in peak condition throughout the entire pregnancy. She had stayed strong, healthy and energetic. Even after giving birth to Violet, it had taken only three days for her to recover completely.

She hadn't suffered the usual sickness most pregnant women experienced. No constant nausea, no weakness. It had been… almost miraculous.

Now, looking at her newborn daughter, Petunia felt something warm fill her chest.

"Violet…" Dudley whispered gently, reaching down to touch the baby tiny hand.

Violet fingers curled around his thumb and Dudley grin softened and he is happy too watching the bonding of mother and daughter.

Petunia watched her finger being curled by her daughter, her mind drifting back to her childhood.

Back to Lily was still alive and still her best little sister, then come the time when she knows that her little sister is someone special, the jealousy she had carried for years.

She keep asking herself and didn't get the answer.

"Why was Lily special?"

"Why was Lily the one with magic?"

"Why had she been left behind?"

The old bitterness flickered for a moment… then faded completely.

Because now.... both of her children were magical and she can use a magic using the glove that Dudley had invented.

Tears gathered in Petunia eyes, though she quickly blinked them away before anyone noticed.

"She's perfect," Vernon said quietly, his voice gentle.

Dudley nodded slowly. "Yeah… she really is."

Petunia placed a hand over Violet blanket, her voice barely above a whisper.

"My children… are special."

And for the first time in her life, Petunia Evans Dursley felt completely, truly at peace.
