I sit at the breakfast table, trying to pretend my soul isn't trying to escape my body.
Rion sits across from me—too calm, too focused. That teasing smile hasn't left his lips since dawn. His eyes stay pinned on me like I'm the only thing that exists in his entire world.
It makes my skin prickle. It makes me want to hide.
Finally, I sigh and snap, "Rion, can't you just stop staring at me?"
He smiles like I handed him something sweet. "Okay. I'll stop… after you eat."
I look down at the warm porridge set in front of me. A bland bowl. A patient's meal.
I narrow my eyes. "Do you see me as a patient?"
He blinks innocently—too innocently. "What happened now?"
"I don't want to eat this," I mutter.
"It's better for you," he replies softly. "If you eat anything spicy… you'll be in trouble."
Trouble?
Then it hits me what kind of 'trouble' he means, and my cheeks go hot instantly.
