Yun Si's breath trembled as she stared at the gun resting over her heart. Fear surged through her veins, cold and paralyzing, but she forced herself to speak.
"I—I'm not a spy," she said quickly, her voice strained but sincere. "I swear. I am not a spy."
The man watched her calmly, his expression unreadable. Then, slowly, a smile curved his lips. It was faint, lazy, and utterly devoid of warmth.
"All spies say that," he replied.
Her heart clenched. She shook her head weakly, panic tightening her chest. "I'm telling the truth. If you don't believe me, you can investigate me. Check my background. My past. Anything. I have nothing to hide."
His eyes darkened slightly.
"I will investigate," he said unhurriedly. The gun pressed more firmly against her chest, right over her racing heart. "But first, I will kill you."
