Eve's POV:
The tension in the air was suffocating, like a thunderstorm on the brink of exploding. Marcus was practically vibrating with rage, his eyes locked on Lucius with the kind of anger that could probably level mountains. And Lucius, damn him, just stood there, his posture relaxed and unbothered, as if he was unaffected by the volcanic fury of the two other men ready to rip him apart.
I stepped in between them, my heart pounding in my chest. "Stop it," I said, my voice shaky but firm. "What Lucius said is true. I offered him my blood."
Silence. Dead silence. It wasn't just the air that stopped moving, it was everything. Everyone, including Lucius, froze in place and stared at me as if I had just sprouted two heads, or maybe even sprouted wings and taken flight. There was a moment where I felt self-conscious, but then I remembered that, hey, this was my choice.
