Chapter 110: The Slug
Kael turned his attention back to the slug on the ground.
Ten minutes had passed, and the little thing had crawled less than a meter. Yet, its desire to escape Kael's demonic clutches was incredibly strong; it was still struggling to crawl away, leaving a trail of sticky slime behind it.
He bent down and grabbed the slug. A wave of intense sliminess greeted his fingers, making his skin crawl.
Fighting the urge to throw the slug away, Kael examined it closely.
This little thing was no different from the slugs he had seen on Earth. Covered in mucus, essentially a snail without a shell, and its mobility was tragic.
It had absolutely zero offensive capability. But Kael didn't care about that. What he cared about was the slug's astonishing regenerative ability—its "undying" nature.
A Summoning Beast synthesized from this creature would surely possess impressive healing abilities.
Kael turned and pulled a dusty item from his bedroom—Yunnan Black Medicine!
He had scavenged this from the dump outside Winterfall City before he even graduated, and he had saved it until now.
With his left hand, he pulled a roll of medical bandages from the ninja tool pouch strapped to his leg, then looked at the synthesis system.
[Material: Medical Bandage]
Quality: White
...
[Creature: Slug]
Rank: E
[Medical Bandage]+[Slug]= ???
[Compatibility]80%
[Synthesis Success Rate]105%
"It's viable!"
Kael's eyes lit up, but he didn't rush to synthesize. These were just two materials he had selected from many; he wanted to find the most optimal synthesis formula.
He picked up the bottle of Yunnan Black Medicine again.
[Yunnan Black Medicine]+[Slug]= ???
[Compatibility]180%
[Material: Yunnan Black Medicine, Quality (White)]
[Creature: Slug, Rank (E)]
[Synthesis Success Rate]205%
[Chakra Required]100
[Synthesize?]
Without hesitation, Kael clicked the [Confirm Synthesis] button.
Immediately, a system notification he had never seen before popped up.
[Notice: Due to the extremely high compatibility between the material and the creature, the final Summoning Beast's rank will be increased by a full tier, rather than E+.]
Kael's heart skipped a beat, and a look of joy spread across his face.
Although D-rank summons weren't a big deal to him anymore, finding a formula with a success rate over 200% using the lowest quality material and the lowest rank creature to skip a tier felt incredible.
It was like buying a priceless antique for a dollar at a yard sale. Kael felt a massive sense of accomplishment.
"I guess the result of this synthesis won't disappoint me..."
Yunnan Black Medicine had powerful healing effects on external wounds. Combined with the slug's innate regenerative properties, what kind of spark would it create?
Kael was very much looking forward to it.
"Looks like I need to send the summons to the dump to scavenge for good stuff more often. Maybe I'll get another surprise."
As he thought this, the snow-white slug in Kael's right hand began to be covered in a color resembling a medicinal plaster.
Kael watched curiously. The white slug was rapidly dyed with a black halo. A few seconds later, the halo expanded slowly and then dimmed, revealing a drastically changed slug.
Its size had increased tenfold, completely covering Kael's palm. It felt heavy, as if he were holding a twenty-pound weight.
The slug's originally pure white body now had vertical stripes, black and white clearly separated.
Kael quickly checked the system description.
[Summoning Beast: Black-Hearted Slug]
Rank: D
Species: Limacidae
Attribute: Regeneration
Abilities:
Healing (Passive): The mucus on the Black-Hearted Slug's body has the ability to rapidly heal external wounds. When the slug lies on a wound or covers it with its mucus, it can instantly stop bleeding and quickly close the injury.
Cell Division: The Black-Hearted Slug possesses the ability of cellular division, which it shares partially with its carrier. The carrier can absorb the cells released by the slug to rapidly restore physical functions.
Slug Substitute: When the carrier of the Black-Hearted Slug receives fatal damage, they will split into four cell clusters. Depending on the severity of the injury, these four clusters will recombine within 5-10 seconds. During the recombination period, the carrier is in an [Untargetable] state. Once the four clusters recombine, the carrier will be restored to their original body at the location, but their physical state (Stamina, Chakra) will drop by 50%.
Proliferation: The Black-Hearted Slug can split into smaller slugs. These smaller slugs also possess the abilities of [Healing], [Cell Division], and [Slug Substitute], but all abilities weaken as the size decreases.
System Evaluation: Me? I was made for fighting!
"This is... Zac?"
Kael's face was full of question marks.
He looked at the large blob of the Black-Hearted Slug, muttering to himself about how many little "Zacs" this thing could split into.
But then he remembered that the smaller the split portion, the weaker the abilities would be. Exactly how weak they would get, Kael didn't know.
"Looks like I'll have to test it thoroughly..."
"However, with this guy, the lives of the Hidden Hot Water ninja are guaranteed. Added with the Ruyi Worm, every ninja in the village is going to be an unkillable cockroach."
Moreover, Kael could use the two recently synthesized summons himself, which significantly increased his own survivability.
Suddenly, he remembered something and looked down at his chest. A bean-sized worm was clinging there, looking completely unremarkable.
Kael squinted and focused on his senses.
"My chakra amount really does seem to have increased..."
He felt incredibly "energetic," as if he had taken a shot of adrenaline. His whole body was full of vitality.
Kael found it hard to imagine that such a tiny worm could act like a precision instrument, providing such incredible amplification effects.
"It seems I can't ignore these inconspicuous creatures in the future. Small size doesn't mean they're useless..."
