Chapter 5 - Friend

Leaving Adrian fuming behind a locked door felt strangely satisfying. I opened the hallway door and slipped out. The cool air of the dorm corridor hitting my face like relief.

The common room was half full of students scattered around in groups; the low hum of chatter and laughter mixing with the crackle of the fireplace. The scent of coffee, fur, and faint traces of magic lingered in the air.

I spotted a few werewolves lounging near the window, their energy impossible to miss—loud voices, casual dominance, that restless edge that always seemed to hum beneath their skin.

Taking a deep breath, I walked toward them. Talking to a bunch of strangers after a stranger tried to unalive me made me pause. But silver eyes flashed and something pulsed inside me. I want to find out who that wolf is. Whoever it was, they saved my life. And they could be the only one who might save me from him again.

May be the werewolf knows the reason why Elijah ashfang wants to kill me. I could find out so much its definitely worth taking the risk.

I nodded to myself and trudged towards the werewolves

"Hey," I started, keeping my tone casual, "I am Selina,"

The laughter died instantly. The three of them stared at me making me nervous, I laughed to dissipate the tension and asked, "do any of you know a black wolf?"

The three of them shared a look of confusion.

"It has silver eyes, like stars." I added.

One of them, a broad-shouldered guy with sandy hair, frowned. "Why are you asking?"

"I just… one of the teachers wanted to know," I lied smoothly.

Their silence stretched a little too long.

A girl with cropped dark hair exchanged a look with him. "A black wolf?" She repeatedly.

"Yes, do you know?" I asked, pretending not to care too much.

Before the girl could reply

The sandy-haired werewolf's nose twitched, and suddenly his expression shifted, from suspicion to something nastier.

"Wait a second," he said, sniffing the air again. "You smell… wrong."

I stiffened. "Excuse me?"

He sneered, taking a step closer. "You're not one of us. You smell like—" He wrinkled his nose in open disgust. "—mixed blood."

The others snickered. One of them spat in disgust, "Hybrid."

Laughter broke out around the table. My cheeks burned, but I stood my ground.

I couldn't understand why they were behaving like that, I know it will take some time for some people to accept hybrids, but looking at them with disgust and hate openly was not something I was prepared for.

Before I could think of a reply they all stood up and left leaving me in disbelief.

I took a deep breath I'd faced worse than a few overgrown dogs with superiority complexes.

A quiet voice cut through my thoughts "werewolves are not very open to people like us."

I turned to find a girl, petite and tall, with big eyes

"You should stay away from them" she said simply. "They don't take kindly to people like us." She said again

"People like us?" I echoed.

she moved closer rolling her eyes, "Hybrids. They are very big on pure blood and blah blah."

I wonder if that was the reason Elizah tried to drown me? Surely not. I shook my head it can't be.

"I am Amy. My mother's fae. My father's wizard." The girl introduced herself.

"I'm Selina," I said quietly. "I hope we can be friends?"

"I thought you'd never ask."

Finally, something that made me smile.
