Chapter 74 - chapter 74:The Price of Loyalty

(After two days / 1 PM)

In Gwanrim Hanok Estate

[Kim Residence]

Bora was standing outside the room.

As the staff came out, one of them said quietly,

"You can come inside."

Bora walked in.

There, Mrs. Kim was sitting on a chair in a hanbok, looking at her fingers.

Several rings were placed in front of her on the table.

She was trying them one by one.

As she looked at Bora.

"Finally you're here,"

she said.

She put the rings back into the box and gave a nod to the servant beside her.

The servant stepped forward, took the box of rings, bowed slightly, and left the room.

"Come here,"

Mrs. Kim said, sitting straight and looking at Bora.

Bora moved forward and sat on the chair beside her.

Mrs. Kim spoke calmly,

"So how was the meet-up with your mother?"

Bora sat quietly for a second, then looked at her with controlled but quiet anger in her eyes.

"Why are you doing this, Miss?"

Mrs. Kim looked at her.

"What do you mean, why am I doing this?

Of course for my kids.

I'm a mother.

And if my kids are not going to treat me like their mother, then I'll have to act like one."

Bora said,

"This is not supposed to be like this, Miss. This is not the way.

You're hurting them by doing this."

Mrs. Kim's tone turned sharp.

"Enough. Just answer what I asked."

Bora went silent.

Mrs. Kim looked at her and said clearly,

"So will you help me get rid of that Omega?"

Bora stared at her.

"Miss, he's too innocent.

He didn't do anything to be treated like this.

I told you, he's working as caretaker of Haru."

Mrs. Kim's expression hardened.

"Bora, do you think I'm a fool?

Don't teach me. I know better what I'm doing."

She looked straight ahead and said coldly, "First him and then Jina. This is the only way I'll get my kids back."

"Miss"

Bora tried to speak.

But Mrs. Kim cut her off, her voice low with quiet anger.

"You better do what I say. Or you know what I'm going to do with your mother."

Bora looked at her.

"Miss…. I'm sorry"

She lowered her head.

"My mother sacrificed her whole life for the Kims.

But in the end, she got nothing except torture from the same people she served."

Mrs. Kim looked at her without emotion. "She didn't work for free.

She got payment."

Bora's voice trembled.

"She's in a sensitive condition, Miss.

She has severe heart problems.

She's already suffered too much.

What will you gain by torturing her?

Aren't you scared even a bit?"

Mrs. Kim let out a faint scoff.

"What should I be scared of?

You're trying to scare me?"

Bora lifted her head.

"I'll tell Sir Taekyun."

Mrs. Kim's eyes turned dangerous.

"You brat. You better stay quiet and behave. If I can help your mother with treatment within seconds, it won't take me long to make her suffer even more.… and die from shock."

She leaned slightly forward.

"You're young as well.

Be careful with your moves."

Bora stood up slowly.

"I'll leave."

Mrs. Kim remained seated.

"Go. You had a long leave with your mother. You enjoyed enough already.

Now return to the residence and wait for my orders."

Bora turned to leave.

Mrs. Kim added coldly,

"You better behave.

After your mother…. there's your brother."

Bora walked out of the room, her eyes filled with tears.

Inside her heart, she cursed Mrs. Kim.

May you suffer as much as you're making people like us suffer.

And may you pay double for what you're doing to your children.

She walked outside the residence and got into a cab, leaving for Taekyun's residence.

[Meanwhile / Taekyun's Residence]

At the dining table, Haru was sitting and eating quietly.

She was too silent and too distant.

Haneul was sitting beside her, watching her carefully.

She ate without speaking.

The staff stood around, happy to see Haru eating properly after many days.

Mina served another dish.

"Here, Haru. Your favorite cold noodles.

Not spicy at all."

Haru gave a slow nod without even looking up.

The nod. The emotionless face.

She looked exactly like Taekyun.

Haneul glanced at Mina.

Then he leaned slightly toward Haru.

"Haru-ah, should I feed you?"

Haru looked at him and said softly,

"No," and continued eating on her own.

Haneul gave a nod to Mina.

Mina looked at the staff.

"Let's go, everyone. Work first.

Let Haru eat peacefully."

They all nodded and left.

When they were alone, Haneul asked gently, "Is something bothering you again, Haru?"

Haru shook her head. She looked at the plate and said quietly,

"This… eat."

Haneul looked at the cold noodles.

"You want to eat noodles?"

She gave a slow nod.

He took the bowl and placed it properly in front of her.

But he was noticing the changes in Haru.

The way she reacted. Too controlled.

Too calm. Too strong for her age.

She was still a child.

It wasn't supposed to be like this.

Haneul didn't know why….

but somehow he felt that Taekyun's fear might be real.

[In the Kitchen]

Mina received a message.

It was from Bora.

I'm on the way.

Mina replied:

From residence?

Bora responded:

Yes. Just left.

Mina typed again:

Did she say something?

Are you okay?

Bora replied shortly:

I'm okay.

[In the Car]

Bora sat in the back seat.

Her tears kept flowing non-stop.

(Two Weeks Ago)

Mrs. Kim had called her and told her to visit the residence at Gwanrim Hanok Estate.

Bora went, not expecting what the meeting was about.

Mrs. Kim told her she had sent people after her mother.

If Bora didn't listen, her mother already fighting heart disease would be tortured.

Bora begged. She cried.

Mrs. Kim didn't listen.

She knew about the Omega, but she didn't know everything.

She kept asking Bora for details.

Bora didn't say a word.

On the other hand, her mother's screams from pain were eating her alive.

Her brother was badly beaten by Mrs. Kim's guards.

They even captured her pregnant sister-in-law.

Bora tried everything.

But with no choice left, she finally accepted.

She signed a contract with Mrs. Kim.

However, she never truly obeyed her.

She stayed in the residence, her heart sinking every day, providing fake information whenever possible.

But when she stopped helping completely.

Mrs. Kim sent her men again.

They beat her brother to death.

On the day Bora was leaving, everything had seemed fine in the morning.

Until she received a call.

Mrs. Kim told her if she wanted to see her mother and brother, she should visit immediately.

Both were in critical condition.

With no choice left, Bora took leave with a heavy heart and left the residence.

But that same day.

Bora decided,

If someone had to fall to end this, it would be her.
