I turn, and he's ther, dark suit hugging his broad shoulders, tie loosened, hair slightly mussed. His eyes flick from Eva… to me… and linger too long, too hot.
My pulse jumps.
He arches a brow. "What are you two plotting?"
Eva smirks. "An overthrow."
"Of what?" Alex's mouth curves. "My sanity?"
"Among other things."
He steps between us with that effortless dominance of his, placing a hand on my waist like he's claiming territory he already owns.
Then he levels a playfu glare at Eva.
"You," he says, pointing at her, "stay away from my wife."
Eva snorts. "Oh, please."
"I'm serious," Alex continues, leaning slightly toward her. "You are a bad influence."
"I am an excellent influence," she fires back.
"On chaos," Alex deadpans.
I smile behind my glass.
Eva crosses her arms. "Admit it….you're terrified I'll convince her to run away with me and leave you lonely and brooding."
Alex huffs a laugh. "I am not brooding."
"You brood professionally."
"That is slander."
