After Kusu and the others departed, silence lingered briefly in the Realm of the Kai before excitement exploded through the air.
This time, whether angel or God of Destruction, Universe 7 had defeated Universe 6.
It was a complete victory—one that set the whole of Universe 7 ablaze with joy.
"Lord Beerus! Whis! You two were amazing this time!" Gran cheered, swinging his small arms in excitement.
"That's right! They even tried to steal our Universe 7's candidate for God of Destruction—serves them right for getting crushed!"
The Old Supreme Kai puffed out his chest proudly, looking every bit the picture of smug satisfaction.
"Tch. Back in the day, I fought eleven Gods of Destruction at once and still stood tall. Beating one fat pig isn't exactly something to brag about."
Though Beerus said that with a huff, the grin on his face betrayed his delight.
"But still..."
He glanced toward Whis, smirking.
"It's not surprising that I won, but Whis managing to win too... that was unexpected."
At that, everyone turned their attention to Whis. They had all assumed he'd lose to Vados.
"Hey, hey, why couldn't I win?"
Whis pouted. "I'm strong too, you know!"
"You are," Beerus said, chuckling, "but you did lose once a few thousand years ago."
His eyes gleamed with amusement.
That, of course, was why they'd all thought Whis didn't stand a chance.
Turns out, he'd been hiding his strength all along.
"Like you've never lost before," Whis shot back, rolling his eyes.
In truth, he hadn't been hiding anything at all. His win today was mostly thanks to the one month of hellish training he'd undergone with his eldest sister a few years ago.
"Whis, when I heard you and your sister talking earlier, I couldn't believe how strong your talent really is!"
Gran's eyes sparkled with admiration. He'd always suspected Whis's potential was terrifying.
The Old Supreme Kai, hearing that, suddenly remembered the time he'd asked about Whis's age.
He began counting on his fingers.
Now, Universe 7 had the strongest God of Destruction, the most gifted angel, and Gran—the terrifying prodigy even the Grand Priest himself had praised.
Three treasures of the universe...
No, wait!
The Old Supreme Kai added another finger. Four treasures, counting himself!
Heheh.
With the four of them together, how could Universe 7 not soar to greatness?
"All right, all right, enough about me. Let's talk about you."
Whis waved a hand and turned to Gran.
"My elder sister projected our battle for you all to see, right? So tell me—how did you find the fight between beings above the level of a God of Destruction?"
Beerus perked up, curious.
He and Whis had only intended to vent some frustration; they hadn't expected to attract Kusu's attention.
Still, it had turned out to be a good thing.
By watching those two battles, Gran had surely learned a great deal.
"My impressions?"
Gran's expression twisted in mild embarrassment.
"To be honest, there were a lot of things I didn't understand at all."
Whis and Beerus both nodded. The gap between their levels was still vast; it was normal he couldn't follow everything.
"Then tell us what you did understand," Beerus said.
"Yes, sir."
Gran thought for a moment, then began earnestly,
"From Lord Beerus's battle, I could see that his control over power was extraordinary.
"At my level, I can maintain perfect control too, but when I fight, I always make unnecessary movements. Those waste a lot of stamina—something I still haven't fixed."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"And I noticed that both Lord Beerus and Lord Champa entered a sort of Self-Instinct state."
"According to Lady Kusu..."
Gran went on to share his observations about both fights.
Beerus and Whis nodded repeatedly, clearly pleased by how keen Gran's insights were.
After a while, Gran finally stopped, looking at Whis expectantly.
Whis smiled.
"You mentioned making unnecessary movements during combat. That's really an issue of battle awareness, technique, and experience."
"In other words, your level of instinctual mastery is still too low."
He added, "For now, at your current stage, you don't need to worry too much about it. Once your bodily instincts evolve, you'll naturally overcome that problem."
"Yes," Gran nodded obediently.
"As for that 'Self-Instinct' you mentioned," Whis continued,
"That's a divine technique unique to the Gods of Destruction. It's quite similar in nature to Ultra Instinct."
"Ultra Instinct focuses on tranquility of the heart—while Self-Instinct focuses on the will."
He paused briefly, then shook his head with a soft smile.
"You've already mastered Ultra Instinct. Self-Instinct, for you, is only a matter of time."
As the candidate for God of Destruction, Gran would eventually touch upon the concept of "Self-Instinct" once he began learning the laws of destruction.
With Ultra Instinct as his foundation, it really was only a matter of time.
"And what about the battle between angels?" Whis asked suddenly, changing the topic.
"That one... I didn't understand anything," Gran admitted, scratching his head.
He wasn't even ten years old yet—wasn't this too much to ask of him?
"It's fine," Whis said with a smile. "Just tell me what little you did understand."
"Okay."
Gran raised half a pinky, looking bashful.
"I did notice a tiny bit. I don't know if this is the right way to say it, but…"
He hesitated, then said carefully,
"I realized that your attacks looked simple—but actually contained terrifying martial profundities."
He glanced at Whis and Beerus, uncertain.
"Is that what the Old Supreme Kai meant by 'returning to simplicity'—that the simpler the move, the greater its power?"
Whis's eyes brightened, and he nodded approvingly.
"Not bad, not bad."
He reached out and gently ruffled Gran's hair.
"Looks like you've gained quite a lot from watching."
"That's right," he continued.
"At the angelic level, none of us use flashy or exaggerated techniques anymore."
"Those kinds of moves have too much wind-up. They never hit the target and only waste your own energy."
"By contrast, the simpler the move, the smaller the cost—and the greater the power. That is the true meaning of returning to simplicity."
Then, with a knowing smile, Whis added,
"Judging from your insights, you seem to have learned quite a bit. So then, you should also understand that your golden-haired form only increases your energy consumption—"
"Stop, stop, stop!"
Gran shot him an annoyed glare.
He was a Saiyan—if he couldn't use Super Saiyan form, then what was even the point?!
"My Super Saiyan form is way too cool to give up! Besides, it's not a wrong path. Once I reach the ultimate form, I'll look even cooler!"
With that, he suddenly transformed—his hair blazing gold, aura flaring around him.
Seeing that familiar golden glow, Whis and Beerus both clenched their fists.
"Hey, hey, what are you two doing?" Gran said nervously. "Whis!"
"Speak."
Whis cracked his knuckles menacingly.
If this kid didn't give him a very good reason, he'd make sure Gran learned the meaning of pain.
Gran's eyes darted slyly. "You remember the last moment of your fight with Vados—when you threw that punch?"
"Yes. What about it?"
"Didn't you once say that true masters don't cause any damage to their surroundings during battle?"
"..."
Whis froze.
He already knew where this little brat was going with this.
But Gran pressed on relentlessly.
"Since you said that kind of fighter wouldn't harm their environment, then why did you tear through so many dimensions at the end? You even froze time for four whole minutes!"
Everyone knew why—because it looked cool.
Beerus and the others struggled to hold back their laughter, faces flushing red.
The boomerang had hit Whis squarely in the face—now let's see how he explained that!
Explain?
Whis's expression darkened. His fist clenched tighter.
The next second
"Aaaaaahhh! My butt hurts!!"
A child's miserable scream echoed throughout the entire Realm of the Kai.
Before long, Whis was seen carrying a bawling Gran by the collar as he and Beerus prepared to leave.
They had been away from the Realm of Destruction long enough—it was time to return.
This time, Whis would begin teaching Gran about dimensional control.
Once Gran broke through, he would truly ascend—becoming a real deity.
