As they stepped into the God of Destruction's palace, Gran found the interior deeply familiar. Even with his eyes closed, without relying on any senses at all, he could move freely through every corridor and chamber.
Seeing how naturally Gran navigated the palace, Whis nodded again.
Then, without hesitation, he simply let Gran lead the way.
Gran said nothing about it and guided the two of them toward a long corridor.
Through the windows lining the hall, one could see a vast portion of the Realm of Destruction outside.
Along the inner wall of the corridor, however, lay a massive hidden chamber.
Beerus was sleeping within that space.
Bulma knew nothing of this. She only found the palace fascinating, touching one decoration here, poking another there.
Eventually Gran could not stand it any longer.
He turned around and lightly knocked her on the head.
Only then did she calm down.
The corridor was long, and their footsteps echoed sharply.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Not long after, Gran arrived before a towering set of doors.
The moment he accurately located the entrance to Beerus's sleeping chamber, the last trace of doubt in Whis's heart vanished completely.
If Lord Beerus knew that another version of himself had accepted a disciple like Gran... and that Gran had even helped kill Quitela...
He would surely be envious—and delighted.
Standing before the doors, Whis felt genuine anticipation for Beerus's reaction.
"Whis, put a protective barrier on her."
Gran pointed at Bulma.
Whis nodded at once.
Naturally, he understood why Gran asked.
With a wave of his staff, a translucent barrier instantly wrapped around Bulma.
"Gran... what is this for?"
Bulma touched the protective shield around her body.
"You'll know soon enough."
Under Bulma's puzzled gaze, Gran slowly pushed open the great doors.
The moment a crack appeared—
A terrifying gust burst out from within.
It was merely the aura leaking unconsciously from Beerus's snores while he slept.
Yet even that stray breath contained horrifying power.
If an ordinary person had faced it directly, they would have been annihilated on the spot, body and soul erased.
When Gran had first been brought past these doors by Whis long ago, he too had suffered this same shockwave.
That was why he had asked Whis to shield Bulma.
Whoosh!
The blast surged straight toward the three of them.
Gran and Whis were naturally unaffected.
Bulma, however, squeezed her eyes shut in terror.
After a moment—
"Alright. You can open them now."
Hearing Gran's voice, Bulma cautiously opened her eyes.
The instant she did, she saw the scene beyond the doors.
Inside was an enormous chamber.
Countless floating rocks drifted through the space.
At the center stood the largest one, atop which rested a golden circular platform.
And lying sprawled upon that platform—
Was a hairless purple cat.
The purple feline slept soundly, releasing terrifying shockwaves from his nose every few breaths.
Seeing this, Gran's mouth twitched.
No matter which timeline it was...
Lord Beerus truly loved sleeping.
"It's Lord Beerus!"
Bulma gasped.
The moment the words left her mouth, she instantly covered it again, terrified she might wake this dreadful god.
"Come in."
Whis entered first.
Gran followed him into Beerus's sleeping chamber.
Bulma stayed glued tightly behind Gran, afraid that Beerus's waking temper might splash onto her.
Beyond the doors was a raised platform where Whis stood waiting.
He turned back and said meaningfully:
"Would you like to wake Lord Beerus yourself?"
Gran's face darkened immediately.
"If you want to test my strength, just say so."
Beerus had an infamously terrible temper when awakened.
Anyone who disturbed his sleep usually paid a steep price.
If Gran woke him, that would certainly enrage the cat god.
And once that happened—
Gran would inevitably have to face Beerus directly.
"Oh hoho~ So you noticed."
Whis covered his mouth and chuckled.
He truly did want to see how strong Gran was.
After all, by Gran's own account, he had killed Quitela.
"Fine."
Gran cracked his neck and stretched his limbs.
"As you wish."
It had been a long time since he last fought Beerus.
Honestly...
His fists were itching.
Whis's eyes lit up.
He had not expected the young man to agree so readily.
"Go, Gran!"
Bulma cheered from the side.
Gran glanced sideways at her, then looked back at Whis.
"Protect her for me."
Hearing that, the corners of Bulma's lips curved upward.
Those words pleased her greatly.
Whis, however, frowned.
Ever since Gran arrived in the Realm of Destruction, he had noticed how highly Gran regarded this mortal woman.
"Why do you keep bringing a mortal around?"
Whis could not help asking.
"Is she very important to you?"
"Uh... how should I put this..."
Gran opened his mouth, unsure how to explain.
After thinking for a moment, he finally smirked.
"You'll understand once you visit Earth."
If anyone in all the universes was qualified to be caretaker to the three of them—
Other than Bulma, no one else seemed fit for the role.
And the Bulma of this timeline still existed.
Once Whis went to Earth and met her...
That scene would surely be entertaining.
"I'm going to wake Lord Beerus now."
Seeing Whis about to question further, Gran quickly left the platform and flew toward Beerus's resting place.
"What a mysterious fellow."
Whis watched Gran's departing figure.
Then he looked at Bulma beside him.
After pondering for a while and still failing to understand, he could only shake his head helplessly.
Meanwhile, Gran arrived beside Beerus's platform.
He stood there silently for a moment.
The atmosphere in the chamber suddenly became heavy.
Gran glanced back once at Whis and Bulma.
Then he cleared his throat.
Bent down.
Grabbed Beerus's pointed ear.
And roared at the top of his lungs:
"LORD BEERUS—WAKE UP!!!!!!"
The sleeping Beerus jolted upright instantly.
His eyes snapped open, bloodshot and furious.
Clearly—
He had not gotten enough sleep.
