Watching her walk into the Nortons' family estate left me with mixed feelings. It was as though she had taken a piece of my soul with her.
I had tried to talk to her earlier, tried to tell her I could assist if she needed help, but she had simply agreed—empty and dismissive, not taking it to heart at all.
And when I told her to be careful, she stiffened, like someone caught doing something she wasn't supposed to.
From all indications, she didn't want to involve me in her plans. Or did she think she would be a burden? When I'd be more than glad and relieved even—to carry any weight for her and ease her burden.
"Drive." I clipped, and the driver pulled away after she had disappeared into the large gate of the estate.
Karl stirred softly. "She would be fine right?" he growled.
"Aren't you silent, all the while, why speak now?" I retorted.
He snorted, recoiling like a chastised pup. "Petty."
I smiled but wasn't ready to answer.
"Maurice," I mind-linked him.
