By Floor 36 to 39, I realized something horrifying.
I couldn't remember killing a single monster.
Not one.
Exp kept rolling in anyway. Numbers ticking up like I was being paid to exist. I was basically a decorative EXP magnet.
Kael handed me snacks between pulls. Actual snacks.
"Energy," he said seriously, shoving dried fruit into my hands. "You look fragile."
"I am not fragile," I muttered, chewing out of spite.
Zeref crouched in front of me for the fifth time in ten minutes. "You okay? Dizzy? Sore? Tired? Emotionally compromised?"
"I am sitting," I said. "On purpose."
Another spider skittered too close. Zeref burned it mid-step.
"Hey," he warned the corpse. "Back off."
I stared at the ashes. "…That spider was already dead."
"It looked at you wrong."
Keiji watched this whole circus with the expression of a man reconsidering every leadership decision he'd ever made. Luna, on the other hand, was having the time of her life.
