Chapter 106: Eye of Revelation x The "Death" of Pariston
A thunderclap exploded out of nowhere!
A roar, far louder than the elephant's, tore through everyone's minds, radiating sonic waves that trembled the soul. It swept past the seabirds, and they fell from the sky, unconscious. It tore through the sea breeze, ripping it apart. The sound itself wasn't deafeningly loud, yet it twisted human emotion, turning it to terror. Roy watched Pariston, who was undergoing some bizarre transformation, and had to admire him. His talent, even among the future Zodiacs, was in a league of its own, no less than Ging's or Pariston Hill's.
Conjuration: the more "real" the "imagination," the stronger the "conjured object."
The year he first awakened his Nen, Pariston, using "Yorbian Chess" as his basis, had quickly conjured "Armored Warhorses," "Caparisoned Knights," and "War Elephants." After all, these were things that existed in reality. If his imagination failed, he could simulate them based on real objects—a field trip to the zoo, for instance, could eventually "restore" them from his mind.
But a "Dragon," especially the "Silver Dragon" from the chess set, was not only massive, but also incredibly difficult to find in reality. Most people would go their entire lives without even imagining such a magical beast existed.
Therefore, Pariston could only rely on his own imagination, supplemented by research—visiting museums to observe the ancient fossils of winged lizards, a distant relative of the dragon's bloodline—to construct in his mind... "what his 'Silver Dragon' ought to look like."
Even so, his current "Aura Output" was insufficient to conjure a complete "Silver Dragon." He could only use himself as the seed, borrowing the dragon's form to construct a "Pseudo-Dragon"!
Whoosh! A great wind rose, rapidly escalating into a gale. With Pariston at the center, Nen surged, gradually revealing a phantom dragon-like creature. It had the head of a horse, the body of a lion, the tail of a lizard, and the scales of a crocodile. Wings, like a bat's, sprouted from its back. It let out a heaven-shaking roar, unleashing its "Dragon's Dread"!
"ROAR—!" This roar was far more powerful than before. Pariston beat his wings, soaring into the sky. The terrifying pressure wave rolled out from him.
Thump... thump... thump... Everyone—including Kurapika, the boy with the bow, the snake charmer, the dagger man, First Mate Gus, and all the other crew and candidates—felt their vision go black, their minds instantly shutting down. Like dumplings dropping into a pot, every last one of them fainted.
"Heh heh heh... It's Little Hill's Silver Dragon!" It's been so long... two or three years since I've seen him use this form. Clark used Ten to block another of Illumi's punches. His fat body was covered in sharp cuts, clearly the handiwork of 'Snake Awakens'.
Illumi, sparing a sliver of his attention for the main battlefield, had also noticed the dragon, heard its mighty roar, and seen the others collapse. His mind couldn't help but recall his grandfather Zeno mentioning that their family also kept a dragon, and that he would take him to see it when he was older. He hadn't expected to encounter one here first. His gaze shifted down, locking onto Roy.
Big Brother's expression was serene, showing no emotion at all. He let the fierce wind whip his bangs, tilting his head back to watch the sky. The "Silver Dragon" beat its wings, seeming to blot out what little sunlight remained.
This displeased him. He stomped his foot, launching himself into the air. The cane sword in his hand began to glow with red spots as he ascended, which then connected into a red line, and finally spread across the entire blade. It pulsed with a searing red light, so bright it hurt to look at, as if it would burn the eyes.
"Young Master..." Gotoh's hands, which had become like machine guns, were chasing Golem with gunfire. His pockets were long out of coins; this was pure Nen bullet output now. He remembered the moment his own eyes had been injured... the setting sun, which should have fallen, had seemed to reappear, twisting, within the Young Master's pupils. Radiating light at will!
"The sky is the dragon's domain. You shouldn't have come up here." Pariston, now in his "Silver Dragon" form, watched Roy ascend. He swooped down from above, using the sky as his home turf, and swiped with a claw. The speed was incredible, far surpassing the charging elephant, and he was in Roy's face in the blink of an eye.
His momentum was unstoppable. With no foothold in mid-air, dodging was impossible. The inevitable result was being swatted into meat paste, just like Donovan... Golem, fleeing desperately from the Nen bullets, seized the chance to unnerve Gotoh: "Stop your useless struggle! I admit your Young Master is strong, but in front of the 'Silver Dragon'..."
"To this day, I've never seen anyone survive this attack!"
"Even if he's only ever shown it once..."
Is that so?
Gotoh didn't reply, his fingers moving even faster, his rate of fire increasing. The young butler didn't look at Roy; his focus was entirely on capturing Golem's movements. He had always believed in his Young Master. He won't let him show it a second time!
[Essence of the Sun: Eye of Revelation]
Closer... Two suns climbed into his eyes. Roy's pupils suddenly blazed. The world dissolved into simple lines, laid bare before him. The howling wind stopped. All sound vanished. In the boy's eyes, all that remained was the infinitely slow-moving claw... and its master, Pariston. Roy unhurriedly raised his cane sword, aiming for the "Silver Dragon's" heart—the blonde boy's chest—and thrust.
Pariston's clear eyes, at first confident, slowly... slowly... shifted to shock, then terror, then panic... until he realized he couldn't move at all. He could only watch, helpless, as Roy plunged the blade into his heart, tore through his chest cavity, and out his back. Finally, his eyes filled with despair, losing all their light. "Cough... cough... is this... your true Nen ability?"
He felt no pain in his chest, no sensation at all, just a chill... followed by an intense heat. The cane sword was pulled out. The [0.1 Second Transparent World] ended. The "Silver Dragon" form faded, revealing Pariston's true body. He touched his chest, looked up at Roy... and fell from the sky like a broken kite.
THUD! He slammed onto the deck, leaving a shallow crater.
A moment of pure silence, followed immediately by two frantic splashes!
"He lost... Little Hill actually lost... Damn Zoldyck! Gramps isn't playing with you anymore!" Clark, narrowly avoiding another of Illumi's Nen-wreathed hand-blades, was utterly terrified. His fighting spirit shattered, he turned and dove into the sea.
Golem was even faster. The thin bodyguard couldn't believe what he had just seen, but he had no choice but to accept the bloody reality. The instant Pariston was impaled, he had leaped overboard without hesitation and was now swimming desperately for the horizon, a barrage of Gotoh's Nen bullets chasing after him.
"Too slow." Roy landed softly on the deck. Without even looking, he casually flicked his sword twice.
Two massive slashes shot out, arriving after the men but moving faster. They flew past Illumi and Gotoh, as if equipped with trackers, and plunged into the sea, striking Clark and Golem. A breath later, two faint screams were heard as patches of red floated to the surface.
