Chapter 6 - Ch. 6: Qingyun City

Ch. 6: Qingyun City

As Lu Sheng ran through, while dragging the soul beast along with him.

Many people watched him with envy.

Though they had expressions of jealousy and envy, they could only shake their heads, trying to distract any bad thoughts from arising in their mind.

The reason was not just his being the city lord's son, but also from his experience.

After all, the city lord's son, being the 'son of heaven,' was famous throughout the city.

Not only was his own good luck contagious, but even his enemies had pretty bad luck in their happenings.

Last time someone tried to steal something from Lu Sheng, it was said he had slipped on a banana peel and had his bones fractured.

Going for momentarily benefits and becoming months-long liability...

No one wanted that.

They could only sigh, thinking only nobles had it good.

Not only can their children easily become soul masters, but they are even born with unparalleled luck.

...

Running through the city from the forest, slightly out of breath, Lu Sheng stopped in front of a large mansion.

Noticing him, the guards standing nearby quickly made their way towards him.

"Young Master!" They said, "Welcome back, madam has been waiting for you for some time. And has ordered us to escort you inside the moment you return."

"Unn." Lu Sheng nodded. "Take this to the kitchen, I will go meet mother now... No need for escorts and such."

Lu Sheng said, pointing at the soul beast's body behind him, which had quite a few feathers missing as he walked inside under the stunned gaze of the guards, as they looked at the thoroughly violated soul beast's body.

Seeing the scene in front of them, one thought couldn't help but appear in their minds.

'Thankfully, it was a hundred-year-old spirit beast and only had a few feathers missing; if it were an ordinary duck, it would have left quite a bloody trail in its path and lost quite a chunk of flesh in the way.'

A chill spread through their bodies, and they dared not think too much.

'Nobles are scary!"

...

Qingyun City, Fanos Province, Heaven Dou Empire

Lu Sheng stepped past the outer courtyard and into the main residence, his pace slowing slightly as the cool air of the mansion wrapped around him.

The interior was spacious yet refined, with polished wooden floors reflecting soft light from hanging crystal lamps.

Carved pillars lined the corridor, each etched with simple but elegant patterns. Paintings and decorative souvenirs adorned the walls, not overly extravagant, but enough to show the quiet wealth of the household.

Servants moved about silently, bowing as he passed.

"Young Master."

"Welcome back, Young Master."

Lu Sheng waved casually, already used to the attention, and continued forward.

As he walked deeper inside, faint voices drifted from the main living room ahead.

"Does this thing really work as miraculously as they say?"

"They say so, 9 great sects, spirit hall, all of them are going crazy over it."

"Hah, who would have expected that something people used to consume as an aphrodisiac would allow one to absorb stronger spirit rings?"

"Alas, if we knew early, we could have secured some for Sheng'er."

"No matter, a piece of a 10,000-year-old whale is still good."

He stepped in.

Three figures sat around a low table, engaged in light conversation.

At the center was a woman who immediately drew attention.

She looked to be in her late twenties, her features refined and gentle, with a natural elegance that didn't need embellishment.

Her long dark hair fell smoothly over her shoulders, and her eyes carried a calm authority beneath their warmth.

Lu Sheng had inherited most of his appearance from her.

Beside her sat an elderly couple.

The old man, Lin Guowei, had a sturdy build despite his age, his posture straight, giving off the impression of quiet reliability.

His hair was mostly grey, but his eyes were sharp.

Next to him, the old woman, Zhao Meilin, looked far more ordinary at first glance, like any grandmother one might see in a peaceful village.

Yet there was a softness in her gaze that carried years of experience and patience.

As soon as Lu Sheng entered, the three turned toward him.

Their expressions softened instantly.

"Sheng'er, you're back," his mother, Lin Yue, said with a gentle smile.

"Caught something again?" Lin Guowei added, glancing briefly behind him as if he could already guess.

Zhao Meilin chuckled lightly. "This child really doesn't stay still."

Lu Sheng grinned, scratching the back of his head.

"Just a small catch."

Lin Yue's expression shifted slightly, her brows knitting together as she looked at him more closely.

"You went out again?" she said, her tone carrying a hint of reproach.

"Even today of all days?"

Lu Sheng paused, then gave an awkward laugh, still rubbing the back of his head.

"It's not like Spirit Hall is handling it," he said casually.

"It's our family's matter. We can take it at our own pace."

The room fell briefly silent.

The three adults exchanged glances.

'This child is way too casual…'

A wry thought surfaced in all their minds at the same time.

When they were children, the day of martial soul awakening had been something they anticipated with excitement and nervousness.

Especially when everyone in the family is a soul master, and each of them has a different martial soul.

If they were in his place, jumping around aside, they might not even be able to sleep at night.

Yet this boy treated it like just another ordinary day.

But they didn't try to change him.

After all, this is how children should be, shouldn't they?

Not to mention, he was pretty sensible as a child, never causing trouble and always being obedient, even going outside, time to time, he even brings something, which refreshes their understanding of the world.

Lin Yue let out a small sigh, though the corner of her lips lifted slightly.

"Come here," she said, her voice softening again.

Lu Sheng walked over without hesitation.

She raised a hand, patting his head, pinching his face, molding it into different shapes, laughing to herself.

Lu Sheng also let her play, not daring to resist.

As for resisting?

He had tried before, but his mother had gotten angry, pinching his cheeks for almost an hour, making him into a half-ripe tomato.

Since then, he never dared resist!

"Alright," Lin Yue said as her expression turned calm and focused again.

"Let me help with your martial spirit awakening."
