Chapter 114 - Chapter 114: Send It Over!

Chapter 114: Send It Over!

Kenji didn't rush to attack. He looked around and found that there weren't many Nuzleaf—only the three or four attacking Scraggy. After all, this was just the outskirts of the Red Zone, not the main living area of the Seedot clan.

Seeing Scraggy in a sorry state, Kenji gave Ninetales a look. Ninetales understood, blurred, and vanished from the spot.

Leaving the Red Zone, Ninetales unceremoniously dropped the Scraggy she had been carrying onto the ground.

Kenji crouched down and looked at Scraggy helplessly. "I'll heal your injuries, but after that, don't follow me anymore, you hear?"

Kenji already had six Pokémon in his party, and now he had an extra Slakoth on his hands. He really didn't have the energy to raise a Scraggy as well.

If Gyarados and this little guy were actually a match made in heaven, that would be one thing. For the sake of his Pokémon's happiness, keeping it wouldn't be impossible.

But the problem was that Gyarados was solely focused on getting stronger. Kenji was afraid Gyarados might get impatient and swallow the poor guy whole.

"Scraggy..."

Scraggy cried out, its expression dejected.

Kenji couldn't understand Pokémon language, so he looked at Ninetales for help.

With Ninetales acting as a very competent translator, Kenji finally understood what Scraggy was mumbling about.

It turned out this Scraggy had grown up alone in this forest since it was young. It didn't have a so-called family or clan.

For a Pokémon to survive alone in the forest until now was quite an achievement.

And through communicating with Scraggy, Kenji seemed to understand why this guy had fallen for Gyarados.

It was basically a lack of love combined with a lack of clan protection during its childhood.

For a Scraggy like that, falling for a Gyarados that looked incredibly powerful was actually quite normal.

Kenji sighed and waved his finger in front of Scraggy. "I'll give you two choices. First choice: continue living freely in this forest. Second choice: I'll help you find a reliable trainer."

...

Night fell. Kenji sat by the lake in front of his pitched tent, holding a wilderness-grade communication device that claimed to be able to send messages and make calls anywhere on Earth.

"Hello, Kenji? Have you arrived in Jinling City? Why are you calling me at this hour?"

The call connected, and Tyson Tang's voice came from the other end.

Kenji replied casually, "Not yet. It'll probably take a few more days to reach Jinling."

Kenji paused, then looked at the anxious Scraggy beside him. "By the way, Gym Leader Tang, I found a Dark-type Pokémon with decent potential in the wild. Could you ask your sister if she wants it?"

There was silence on the other end for a second or two before Tyson Tang spoke again.

"Send it over."

Kenji's mouth twitched. "Aren't you going to ask me what kind of Pokémon it is?"

Tyson Tang replied as if it were obvious. "You already said the potential is decent, so why ask? Anyway, I'm planning to have my little sister take over as the Metropolis Gym Leader in two years. She'll need to raise a bunch of Dark-type Pokémon to handle Gym challenges then anyway."

That was true. As a Gym Leader, one naturally couldn't use their main team for standard Gym Battles.

But Kenji was still surprised. "You're so young, and you're already letting your sister take over as Gym Leader?"

Tyson Tang's tone turned complaining. "It's easy for you to say when you're not doing it. You don't know how exhausting being a Gym Leader is. Accepting challenges from others all day is one thing, but whenever there's a mess in Metropolis, I have to help clean it up too."

That was true. Accepting challenges from all over the country on one hand, and shouldering the heavy responsibility of protecting Metropolis on the other.

Being a Gym Leader really wasn't easy.

"You're certainly her biological brother. But taking over as a Provincial Gym Leader in a year or two seems a bit too early, doesn't it?"

Kenji knew Yuki's strength. To say she would take over as a Provincial Gym Leader in two years seemed a bit too green.

Tyson Tang switched to a confident tone. "My sister's talent might not be as monstrous as yours, but don't underestimate her."

...

The two chatted casually for a bit longer. Kenji also asked Tyson Tang if there was any progress on Arbok's Death Makeup Technique before hanging up.

Looking at Scraggy beside him, Kenji put on a stern face and warned, "I've found a reliable trainer for you. You can follow me for now, but let's be clear: behave yourself. Don't disturb Gyarados's training again, or you can stay in the wild."

Pokémon transfer technology was quite advanced, but Kenji still needed to reach the Pokémon Center in Jinling City first.

Scraggy nodded happily. The thought of no longer being alone made it jump for joy.

Having settled Scraggy, Kenji refocused his attention entirely on his own Pokémon.

The other Pokémon continued their training as planned, while Kenji took Beedrill aside to continue tinkering with Mega Evolution.

To increase the bond between himself and Beedrill, Kenji took great pains. He added Pokéblocks that increased Happiness to its diet.

On normal days, Kenji would occasionally remove Beedrill's Mega Stone and replace it with a Soothe Bell.

Kenji invested much more time into training with Beedrill than with the other Pokémon, and he even deliberately engaged in playful activities with it from time to time.

Essentially, Kenji did everything he could to foster the emotional connection between himself and Beedrill.

Pulling back his thoughts and ending the training session with Beedrill, Kenji turned his attention to Slakoth.

Kenji held a High-grade Pokéblock to Slakoth's mouth.

This Pokémon was so lazy it didn't even want to take an extra bite of food.
