Chapter 207: Haxorus
"No problem." Drago nodded, agreeing readily.
Seeing Drago agree so easily saved Kenji from wasting his breath. He eagerly squeezed the miniaturized Poké Ball in his hand.
It was Beedrill's ball.
Kenji couldn't wait to fight Drago.
And compared to Kenji, Drago seemed even more eager.
Two people so desperate for a battle naturally skipped the small talk and headed straight for the battlefield.
They intended to say everything they needed to say through combat.
In the vast arena, the referee stood on the elevated platform to the side and announced the rules.
"This match will be a 3v3 battle!! Each trainer will use three Pokémon. The match ends when all Pokémon on one side are unable to battle. Substitutions are allowed at any time."
"Battle... Begin!!! —"
"Go!! Haxorus!! —"
"You're up! Beedrill!!"
Two streams of red light flew onto the battlefield simultaneously.
In front of Drago, a bipedal draconian Pokémon covered in hard armor appeared. It had axe-like tusks protruding from the sides of its mouth.
Haxorus!!!
[Haxorus]
Gender: Male
Level: 94
Type: Dragon
Ability: Rivalry (Deals more damage to Pokémon of the same gender, less to the opposite gender.)
Potential: A+
Drago was an honest man. When he said he'd use full strength, he meant it. He showed no mercy right out of the gate, sending out one of his main six team members.
As the strongest Gym Leader in Huaxia, five of Drago's six main Pokémon had reached Champion level.
"Haxor!!! —"
Upon entering, Haxorus stomped the ground, creating a muffled thud. It whipped its head, its axe-tusks slicing through the air with a sharp whoosh.
Behind Haxorus, Drago stared at Kenji's Beedrill with glowing eyes.
Even though Beedrill was just hovering there, not having made a move yet...
Drago's keen instincts told him this was no ordinary bee.
[Beedrill] (4-Star)
Gender: Male
Level: 86
Type: Bug / Poison
Abilities: Swarm, Huge Power
Base Stats Total: 675
Moves: ...
Items: Infinity Edge, Last Whisper, Sword of the Occult
Potential: Limit
As Beedrill's level climbed higher, the speed of leveling up had begun to slow down.
Of course, "slow" was relative to the rocket-like speed it had enjoyed in the early stages.
Although Beedrill was "only" Level 86, its true combat power was enough to fearlessly face an ordinary Champion-level Pokémon (Levels 90-100).
After all, back when it was only Level 80, its Mega Evolution had been strong enough to beat down Raikou. And now, Beedrill had jumped another significant tier to Level 86.
Even if Raikou had been injured at the time.
An injured Legendary was still vastly stronger than a standard Champion-level Pokémon.
"Haxor..."
Haxorus let out a low growl, sensing the threat radiating from the insect in front of it.
Kenji looked at Beedrill's back, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly.
With the bond forged through Mega Evolution, Kenji and Beedrill were essentially of one mind. Verbal commands were no longer necessary.
The battle began!
Haxorus struck first. With a wave of its claws, massive boulders materialized in mid-air and hurled toward Beedrill.
Rock Tomb!!
As Haxorus launched the attack, Beedrill charged straight toward the dragon. It wasn't moving particularly fast—it hadn't unleashed its full speed yet.
Facing the incoming boulders, Beedrill showed no intention of dodging. It continued its forward charge.
Whoosh!!! —
The boulders struck Beedrill.
But the expected outcome—Beedrill smashing them or getting crushed—didn't happen.
A bizarre scene unfolded.
The boulders passed right through Beedrill's body.
Passed... passed through!!!
Drago's pupils shrank. Even Haxorus looked momentarily stunned.
Following the first rock, the rest of the barrage rained down. But against the charging Beedrill, every single boulder phased through its body and crashed harmlessly into the ground behind it.
How is this possible???
Is that an afterimage???!
Drago was shocked. If that's an illusion, when did the real body move?
And where is the real body???!
Beedrill answered Drago's questions swiftly.
It arrived right in front of Haxorus, raising a lance coated in deadly purple venom.
Poison Jab!!! —
No!! That's not an illusion!!
Drago's eyes widened. On the field, Haxorus's survival instincts kicked in, and it raised its arms to block.
BANG!!! —
"Haxor!!! —"
Haxorus let out a pained cry as its massive dragon body was knocked backward by Beedrill's immense strength.
It slid back six or seven meters before forcefully stabilizing itself.
Looking at the arm it used to block, the scales had turned an unnatural purple. It was poisoned.
Haxorus grimaced in pain. Clearly, that single Poison Jab hurt like hell.
Remember, the current Beedrill was not only a full tier lower in level than Haxorus, but it also hadn't Mega Evolved or used any boosting moves.
It hadn't even engaged its full speed mode yet.
Under these conditions, a single thrust had heavily injured Haxorus.
Usually, the higher the level, the harder it was to overcome a level gap.
But that theory didn't apply to Beedrill.
Landing a hit, Beedrill gave Haxorus no time to breathe. It charged again.
This time, its twin lances glowed with a sharp white light.
Fell Stinger!!
Haxorus roared. Having learned its lesson, it abandoned ranged attacks. It raised its claws, coating them in pale blue draconic energy.
Dragon Claw!!!
SHING!!! —
Haxorus swiped at the Beedrill right in front of its face.
The claws sliced through the air... and effortlessly tore through Beedrill's body.
Effortlessly... as if Beedrill's body wasn't even there!!!
At the exact moment Haxorus swiped, a flash of white light appeared behind it.
An intense sense of crisis made Haxorus stiffen instantly.
This time, at such close range, Haxorus finally saw it.
The instant the Dragon Claw was about to connect, Beedrill vanished.
Or rather, it dodged at a speed that was barely perceptible even to Haxorus.
Whoosh!!! —
After the strike missed, Beedrill flickered back to its original position.
Right in front of Haxorus.
But while the position was the same...
Haxorus was sent flying backward.
This time, both Haxorus and Drago understood.
Dodge the attack the instant before impact, then return to the original spot after the attack passes.
It happened too fast. To the naked eye, it looked like the attack phased through Beedrill, while Beedrill never moved.
A Champion-level Haxorus had terrifying dynamic vision.
Yet even with such vision, it could only barely catch a glimpse of Beedrill's movement at point-blank range...
