Chapter 218: A Chance Encounter! Shiny Pokémon!!!
The Southern Cloud Gym was a gym specialized in Bug-type Pokémon.
It was the only provincial-level Bug-type Gym in all of Huaxia.
The Gym Leader's name was Hua Mingyan. Among the provincial leaders, she was relatively young.
Her ace was a Volcarona. While she wasn't considered the strongest among the Gym Leaders—barely stronger than Tyson Tang—only one of her Pokémon, that Volcarona, had reached Champion level.
Hua Mingyan was also one of Song Xiaoqiang's idols.
After all, Song Xiaoqiang's dream was to become a Bug-type Champion. And Hua Mingyan represented the absolute ceiling for Bug-type specialists in Huaxia.
Speaking of Song Xiaoqiang, the moment Kenji's match in the National League ended, Xiaoqiang had pestered his parents relentlessly to ask Kenji for an autograph. He was undoubtedly Kenji's number one fan.
...
Kenji cleared out a large area adjacent to the original campsite to make room for his team. Only then did he release the massive Tyranitar.
To facilitate movement in the dense forest, Kenji had removed the three Titan's Resolve stacks from Tyranitar, causing its size to shrink back down.
But even "shrunken," Tyranitar was still a behemoth.
With such a colossal guardian watching over them, the night passed incredibly peacefully.
Kenji didn't even hear the cries of wild Pokémon nearby.
The next morning, Kenji prepared breakfast for his team and then began packing up the tent.
After eating, the Pokémon started playing and wrestling nearby.
After storing the tent back into his spatial backpack, Kenji did a headcount and suddenly frowned.
One, two... eight.
He counted silently in his mind. Eight. Mankey was missing. He scanned the area but couldn't find the monkey anywhere.
"Ninetales, use your psychic power to find where Mankey went."
Tracking was Ninetales's specialty. It immediately spread its psychic senses into the surroundings.
A few seconds later, Ninetales opened its eyes and looked in a specific direction.
It had found Mankey.
Kenji understood. He recalled the larger Pokémon like Tyranitar and Gyarados into their balls, then followed Ninetales toward Mankey's location.
Mankey hadn't gone far. After walking only one or two hundred meters, Kenji could faintly hear its cries.
Besides Mankey's voice, Kenji could also hear the cries of another Pokémon, punctuated by occasional explosions.
It seemed Mankey was in a fight.
Hearing this, Kenji quickened his pace.
As the sounds grew louder, Mankey finally came into view.
Not far from Mankey was an Ariados, panting heavily and looking incredibly weak.
Ariados. The Long Leg Pokémon, evolved from Spinarak. It had a horn on its head similar to a Weedle's and looked like a giant spider. It had six legs, but an extra pair of "legs" grew on its back.
[Ariados]
Level: 31
Type: Poison / Bug
Ability: Insomnia
Potential: D
When Kenji arrived, he saw Ariados turning to flee.
But it barely made it two steps before Mankey grabbed the silk trailing from its spinneret and yanked it back.
The silk was still attached. Ariados, terrified, scrambled against the ground, hurriedly severing the thread.
But Mankey wasn't about to let it go that easily. It leaped forward, blocking Ariados's path once again.
A Level 31 Ariados had absolutely no chance against a Level 22 Mankey (with S-Rank potential and training). It was being played with like a toy.
Mankey seemed to treat the battle as a game, showing no rush to finish off the spider.
"Mankey!"
Kenji called out from behind.
Mankey's eyelid twitched. It turned around to see its trainer standing there.
"Haya!! —"
Mankey grunted, picking its pig nose with one hand while waving casually at Kenji with the other.
It clearly didn't think running off on its own was a problem.
Kenji understood. The mandated rest over the past few days had probably bored Mankey to death, so it picked a fight with this Ariados to relieve the boredom.
Speaking of which, this Ariados was truly unlucky.
According to the Pokédex, Ariados were nocturnal hunters.
It was early morning. This one had likely just finished hunting and was heading back to its nest for a nice sleep, only to be intercepted by a bored, hyperactive monkey.
Kenji signaled Mankey. The monkey picked its nose again, glanced at the spider, but obediently walked over to Kenji's side.
Seeing Mankey stop, Ariados glanced warily at the monkey and the human. It cautiously shuffled sideways.
It spat out a thread to retrieve a silk cocoon hidden in the nearby bushes, preparing to leave.
But before Ariados could move further, Kenji's eyes narrowed. He stared at the cocoon.
"Ninetales, stop it!!"
"Mo..."
Ninetales's blue eyes flashed. Psychic power erupted instantly, freezing Ariados in place.
Ariados hissed in despair.
Kenji had no intention of hurting the spider further. His gaze was locked onto the cocoon hanging from its mouth.
The cocoon was wrapped tightly, revealing only the small head of the Pokémon inside.
Kenji recognized the species immediately.
It was a Snivy!!
But what truly shocked and excited Kenji was its color. The usually light green parts of its head were a deeper, richer green, and the cream-colored parts had a greenish tint.
The yellow markings near its eyes were a deep gold.
This was unmistakably a Shiny Snivy!!!
Kenji activated his Data Eye and checked the Snivy's stat panel.
