Chapter 403: Gyarados! Enters the Fray!
It was a point of pride for Mason Chu as one of the Huaxia Elite Four. But
forcing Magnezone to use Explosion was a move born of cold, tactical necessity.
He knew that if he allowed Bellossom to keep kiting and healing, he would lose
Magnezone for nothing. A self-destructive gambit was his only way to potentially
take the "Queen of the Sun" down with him.
As the blinding white light from the detonation slowly faded, the arena's floor
was a ruin. The super-sized Electoweb had been vaporized, and a massive, smoking
crater occupied the center of the field. Plumes of white steam rose from the
scorched earth.
Magnezone lay at the bottom of the pit, its metallic body blackened and its
single eye dull. It was completely unconscious, its systems overloaded and shut
down.
A few meters away, the small silhouette of Bellossom stood alone. She looked
ragged. Her leaf-skirt was singed, and several petals on her head were torn.
The level gap between her and Magnezone had been too high. Even with a
last-second Protect, the raw kinetic force of a Level 97 Explosion at
point-blank range had been enough to overwhelm her defenses.
If Kenji and Bellossom hadn't reacted with surgical precision, she would have
been deleted instantly along with the machine.
But Bellossom's true strength wasn't her durability—it was her resilience under
the sun.
Since she hadn't been knocked out by the initial blast, she now possessed the
time to recover. The two flowers on her head began to pulse with a feverish
light, greedily drinking in the remaining solar energy of the Sunny Day.
Within seconds, the green light of Synthesis pulsed through her veins, and her
posture began to straighten as her cells mended themselves.
"Magnezone is unable to battle!!! Bellossom wins the round!!"
"The Southeast Elite has lost three Pokémon! We will now enter a 30-minute
halftime intermission!!!"
Kenji felt a pang of regret. If only the Sunny Day had lasted a few more
minutes, Bellossom would have been back at 100% health before the break.
While the rules prohibited the use of items or medicine during the intermission,
they didn't forbid leaving your Pokémon out of their balls. Kenji let Bellossom
sit in the sunlight outside the arena to continue her recovery.
The first half had been a bloodbath. The arena floor was so badly damaged that
even the emergency repair systems couldn't fix it in time. For the second half,
the tournament organizers moved the combatants to a brand-new, pristine field.
The thirty-minute break passed quickly. Kenji and Mason Chu returned to their
boxes.
"Second half... Begin!!!"
"Go!! Escavalier!!"
"I choose you! Gyarados!!"
Two beams of red light hit the field.
On Mason's side, a bipedal Pokémon encased in heavy, ornate steel armor
appeared. It held two massive, lance-like arms, looking like a knight from a
medieval tale.
Escavalier, the Cavalry Pokémon. A Bug/Steel type with a base stat total
of 495—high for its species. In the wild, its pre-evolution, Karrablast,
reportedly evolves by stealing the shell of a Shelmet.
Typing-wise, Escavalier shared the same profile as Scizor: ten resistances and
only one 4x weakness—Fire. Its stats were specialized for a Trick Room style,
with a base Speed of only 20 but a massive base Attack of 135. It was a heavy
tank designed to deliver slow, crushing blows.
Kenji was surprised Mason would lead with another Fire-weak Pokémon given his
Ninetales was still in reserve.

This Escavalier hadn't been with Mason as long as his other partners, or its
level would be higher. But its S-Rank potential was undeniable.

A terrifying roar echoed through the stadium. The atmosphere in the room turned
cold as a familiar, massive blue body hit the water tank at the edge of the
arena.
Mason stared at the Gyarados. He felt a physical weight press against his
mind—the combined pressure of Intimidate and Pressure. He felt his own thought
process slowing down, suppressed by the sheer malice radiating from the serpent.
Wait... only a few months have passed since the Conference, Mason thought, his
heart stuttering. How did it get this strong?!
It wasn't his imagination. After the month-long effect of the [Solo Leveling]
Hex Core, Kenji's Gyarados had undergone a total metamorphosis. It had gained
more growth in thirty days than most Pokémon achieved in two years.
