Chapter 3 - BIRTH

Silence and Darkness

That was all that he could perceive, as he flouted aimlessly in the darkness of space. His body was as light as a feather, free from the binding shackles of gravity. It felt as though he was but a small pebble moving in accordance with the current, having no control of where he was going. His mind was a haze of confusion.

What is this?

Where am I?

Days turned into months and months turned into years. His sense of time was blurred and he couldn't tell how much of it had been spent in this darkness.

Perhaps it was but a moment

or a thousand years

The only thing keeping him company were his memories, but the void soon stripped him of that as well.

Thoughts were muddled and the mind began to fall into incoherency.

He was loosing his sense of self.

The sensation of spending years flouting in an endless void dulled his mind, causing the fog of confusion to transform into a thick mist.

Desperately trying to cling on to self-consciousness, he forced his mind to produce any form of though that would keep him awake, but it was to no avail.

Before he knew it he had even begun to question his very own existence.

Who am I?

What am I?

In the end even his sense of self was taken from him.

At that moment he was no different to a sea amoeba. Only existing for the mere sake of existing, with no purpose, cause or lick of conscious thought. He remained in this perpetual state of existence for what felt like a century, before he came across a bright light.

The closer he was to the light the more clearer his mind became. By the time he had reached said light his mind was clear enough to form conscious thoughts.

What is that?

That was the last thought he had before everything got disoriented. Space-time began to twist and everything was once again submerged in darkness.

'Where am I this time?' for the first time in a while, Kyle was able to produce a thought with more than 3 words.

Clutching his head, he let out an internal groan as his brain was flooded with a life-times worth of memories.

'Uurghhh!'

From the days spent going to school, arguing with his parents and laughing with his friends. To the moment of both his physical and spiritual death, all of it came back in vivid detail.

Kyle's head rang as he slowly opened his eyes. Apon opening them, he was greeted by the same dead pin darkness. For a brief moment, panic set in.

'What's going on? Why am I still here?' he anxiously thought, recalling the feeling of slowly having his sense of self killed.

Failing to notice the change in his surroundings, he mistakenly thought he was still stuck in that void.

'Wait. No'

Feeling a sense of pressure that weighed down on him, he finally realised that he had a body.

This was not that horrifying darkness.

The sudden influx of memories, the fear, pain, anguish, uncertainty and despair associated with death, caused a lapse in his judgement. Rendering him unable to think rationally and realize that this was not the same place.

'Wheey!'

He let out a breath of relief, knowing that he had mistaken this place to another.

Trying to make out his surroundings, he found out that he was submerged in some sort of liquid. Confined in a tight space. Movement felt sluggish, and the gravity was slightly less.

Reaching his hand out, he was met by a wall. It was slimy and wet. He could tell almost instantly

'I'm inside an egg' he mused as he retracted his hand.

As an avid anime, cartoon, manhwa and web novel reader, he knew exactly what this was.

He had been reincarnated!

Worried about prematurely breaking out of his shell, Kyle decided to hold off his escape attempt. He spent his time trying to figure out what kind of creature he reincarnated as. Not once did he think about his past life.

Days went by before he felt a stifling sensation, that implored him to break out. Deciding to trust this strange feeling, he smiled sheepishly.

'It's probably this body's way of telling me that it's ready'

Clenching his fist, he punched forward with all his strength.

Boom!

A dull thud echoed, followed by a crisp crack sound. Kyle grinned ear from ear as he heard the cracking sound.

'Finally, I can get out!'

Encouraged, he increased the intensity and frequency of his strikes.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

As he hammered away, the cracks spread. With a load thud the shell came off, signaling his freedom.

Poking his head out, Kyle took a moment to appreciate the fresh air.

Strangly even after being born - and it being this body's first time seeing sunlight - he didn't feel an ounce of pain in his eyes.

Feeling chipper from the escape Kyle decided to stratch his limbs and take a look at his surroundings.

Nothing but gray filled his vision, not even a speck of green could be seen.

Looking down he could see that he was standing on some sort of podium, made of the same grey stone surrounding him. His egg lay next to him, inside a small crater and supported by twigs. Clearly someone had gone to great lengths to ensure his birth. The egg was Azure blue in colour, and was covered with small scales. There also seemed to be a weird horn shaped pattern, spanning across the surface of the egg, that glowed faintly red.

Deciding to ignore the egg for now, Kyle continued with his analysis.

'Seems I'm inside some sort of cave' he thought as he moved his head towards the sky.

Suddenly stopping on his tracks Kyle was frozen in shock at the sight before him.

"W-What"

His eyes were filled with awe as he entrancedly stared at the sky. Twin moons hovered across the horizon, one blue the other red, shining with a soft lustre as they alluminated everything in their vacinity. Providing light to the cave.

'No wonder my eyes didn't hurt, it was nighttime!'

A small smile crept at the corner of his lips before it transformed into a full-on grin. He could no longer hide it. The excitement of going to another world had gotten to him. His heart thundered at the prospect.

This was all the proof he needed. Now he could say it with utmost certainty.

"I've been reincarnated to another world" he whispered.

Before Kyle could be granted any more time to be ingrossed in his fantasies, he was snapped out of his reverie by a guttural sound.

Grrrrrrrr!

Touching his stomach he could feel a deep rumble.

Grrrrrrrr!

'I gause the escape really took a toll on me" he thought.

Instinctively, he turned his head towards the egg.

Looking at the eggshell, his mouth couldn't help but water as he caught a wiff of its irresponsible aroma.

Reaching out Kyle took a piece of the egg, that had fallen due to his escape, and put it inside his mouth.

It was pure ecstasy. The shell melted inside his mouth. Words alone were not enough to describe it - not because I'm too lazy to do it - but because it was truly that magnificent. His body absorbed the nutrients like sponge.

Taking a look inside the egg, Kyle could see that it was filled with some sort of green liqued. Using his hands, he scooped the fluid and began to drink it.

Upon drinking the fluid his eyes popped open comically and he let out a loud gasp.

"Daaaamm!"

In a blur of motion he took out a huge chunk of eggshell, covered in the green yolk and stuffed it into his mouth.

As soon as he finished eating the chunk, he frenzidly began to eat the rest of the egg.

'Hm, so good! ' he thought.

After finishing his meal he couldn't help but notice that his body felt different. It felt more powerful, stronger.

Clenching his fist he grinned from ear-to-ear as he imagined all that awaited him.
