Chapter 17 - Slow-Living

On their way to the market, Seren spotted a random person riding a bicycle, "Why can't bicycles stand on its own?" she suddenly spoke with her energetic voice.

Felix's straight view on the road instantly went to Seren, "I don't know, why?" he asked back and shrugged.

Seren smirked excitedly. "Because it's 'two-tired'." She bursts to laugh while reflexively slapping on Felix's hips.

"Akh!"

"Y'know, two-tired; TOO TIRED. Hahaha." Seren tapped on Felix's elbow with hers.

After a few moments, Felix finally lets out a faint giggle. He wasn't amused by the joke; but the joker.

< 10 minutes later >

At the market lies a shopping center of the city. Full of stands—whether it's the butcher, greengrocer, fruit seller, florist, clothing seller, and many more in one area. Not only that, it's very crowded here. Well, no need to wonder, it's in the morning.

"Where should we-" Felix's words stopped as he found out that Seren had gone.

"Here, here!" Seren's voice came from Felix's left. She was there holding a shirt she got from the clothing seller.

Felix approaches Seren.

"Look! This looks good on me, right?" Seren placed the white lacey dress against herself; also putting on a big smile.

My goodness, cuteness overload. Felix thought, pinky cheeks.

"Y-yeah, it was beautiful!"

However, Seren then pulled another same dress, but it was sky-blue. "How about this?" She asked hopefully.

Felix fell silent. W-what should I do? Which one is the best for her? What if I chose the wrong color? I…. Ughh, mannnn!

Felix gulped and nervously said, "I guess this one is better…. Y'know, it's got the sky color, I am certain it'll look cute for you." Felix, just let everything to fate.

Seren perked up and blushed. "Y-yes! I think so, too! It won't get as easy to fade nor look more stained than white."

Felix sighed. Thank god.

"How much is this, Ms?" Seren asked the seller in English.

"Let me see…. It was 115 Reichmark." The seller said in English.

Seren left in a pensive silence for a while. "Uhmm…, can you lower the price?" She pauses. "Like, I want it 90."

The saleswoman sighed. "105. That's a good price."

"100." Seren still tries to negotiate.

The seller scratches her head. "Tckk. Fine, that's okay."

Seren handed the dress to the seller, which the seller continued to fold carelessly. After that, the seller hands Seren the dress already placed inside a paperbag.

After the unpleasant experience of shopping, Seren grabs Felix's hand and walks away. Also, she handed the paperbag to Felix.

"That was way too expensive, wasn't it?" Felix murmurs.

Seren nods unpleasantly. "Yeah…."

"Why did you still decide to take it?"

"Well…," Seren stops moving, then looks at Felix with a sweet smile. "You said that I would be cute in it. So…, yeah."

Felix shows a hint of embarrassment. "100 Reichmark only for that…. We'll find another, 'kay?"

For quite a while, Felix spotted a clothing seller—many clothes were hung, like jeans, everyday wear, jackets, and more. The seller appears to be an elderly woman selling clothes by herself. Then, Felix taps on Seren's shoulder to point her there.

In front of it, the ma'am is on her feet already. "What would you like, sweethearts?" The ma'am greeted warmly.

Seren's eyes perked up as she looked at Felix. She nods in agreement.

"Hmm…, oh, we haven't bought any for you and… uhmm…." Seren tiptoes and whispers to Felix. "Y'know, underwear…."

"Ohh, 'right."

After a full 15 minutes of picking clothes by Seren (Felix only took about 3 minutes and he doesn't pick much), the seller folds the picked clothes one by one. She was very pleasant.

Felix sighed. "820 Reichmark vanished only for clothes." Felix said to Seren.

"Hehe…."

The seller smiled soothingly and said, "It's French, isn't it? Are you both French?" she asked in English.

"Yes, ma'am, we are." Felix replies in German.

"Ohh! I see…." The seller shows a hint of surprise when she hears that Felix knew German.

Afterward, the seller is done folding the clothes properly and placing it inside a paperbag. This time, this seller was neat and did her job great. She handed the paperbag to Felix. Now, he's holding 2 at a time. They both said goodbye to the seller before going off.

Right then, they both went further at the market. There was the kitchen needs section, supposedly. They went to buy veggies, meat, and spices.

After that, the sun is getting quite hot already when they have finished shopping. They've bought every necessity for now. Felix held 2 paperbags of clothes they've brought on his left hand and 2 other paperbags of the kitchen needs that he placed on his stomach with his right hand.

However, Seren didn't even hold a single shopping item. She sighed happily. "It feels like I can do this whole day!"

"Nope, we've spent 998 Reichmark for these." Felix disagrees.

"Hehe. Now, we'll go to the vet!"

After walking for a while, they both heard a vague melodious sound from a distance; it sounded like a violin. In Felix's remembrance, it came from the park he had gone to before.

"Hey, what if we go to the park before picking Théo?" Felix said.

Seren nods eagerly.

At the park, near the fountain, to be exact, people gathered around it. As they walked closer, the melodious violin sounded clearer. They walked through the crowd to take a closer look. There was a boy at the age of around 14-15 years old playing a violin beautifully as the fountain splashed water like a backsound. He was wearing ordinary clothing and a hat. He was so focused on playing the violin that he drew the attention of the crowd.

"Wow…. It sounds beautiful, right?" Seren turned to Felix and said.

"Yeah…." Felix agrees.

When the boy did the last, long strum, he bows as the crowd claps. "Thank you, thank you." The boy thanked the crowd.

After that, he took off his hat and started to approach the crowd as they gave money to him.

"Ohh, here." Seren pulled out a 2 Reichmark bill and put it in the boy's hat and smiled.

"Thank you!" The boy said, smiling back.

Felix sighed in his thoughts. She was too generous. He smiles.
