Cherreads

Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: Gary's First Day Working at the Breeding House

The next morning, Gary opened his eyes to the sound of Starly chirping outside the window.

He threw off the covers and sat up. Outside the window, the Starly were chattering noisily.

His Umbreon was sleeping beside the bed. Seeing Gary get up, it also stood up and shook itself.

After greeting his Umbreon, Gary put on his shoes and went to the bathroom to wash up.

Once he was ready, he went downstairs with his Umbreon.

Victor was having breakfast with Shana.

Seeing Gary was up, Victor took a sip of hot milk.

I'll have to raise a few Miltank in the future, he thought to himself. Then he greeted Gary.

"Morning. How did you sleep last night?"

"Good morning, Owner, and Shana. I slept very well yesterday. The environment here is perfect for sleeping." Sleeping at the Breeding House made him feel completely refreshed.

"That's good. Come have some breakfast. Gothita and Mime Jr. made it, and it tastes great."

"Mime~"

"Goth~"

Hearing this, Gary came to the counter. Breakfast at the Breeding House was usually eaten there.

"Thank you, then."

After Gary sat down, Gothita came over holding a plate of breakfast, and Mime Jr. brought a glass of hot milk, placing them in front of him.

Gary picked up a fried dough stick (youtiao), took a bite, and looked at the unfamiliar food, stunned by its flavor.

"How is it? I taught them how to make it."

Gary nodded, indicating it was delicious.

Victor dipped his youtiao into the milk, then put it in his mouth. He nodded with a look of satisfaction.

It's a shame there's no soy milk.

I'll order a soy milk maker later and teach Mime Jr. and Gothita how to make it.

That way, we can have a hot cup of soy milk every day.

Wonderful.

Thinking this, Victor couldn't help but nod. This life is getting better and better.

Gary copied Victor's action, dipping the youtiao in the milk before eating it.

"Delicious!" Gary couldn't help but exclaim.

"If it's good, have some more."

Victor finished his youtiao, then picked up his milk with one hand while grabbing the back of Shana's collar with the other as she tried to sneak away.

"Finish your milk first, young lady."

Shana, wearing pigtails today, struggled in Victor's grip, her short arms and legs flailing in the air. Finally, she resigned herself to her fate and stopped struggling, letting Victor hold her.

Victor let go, and she obediently returned to her seat, picked up her hot milk, and drank it sip by sip with a pout.

"By the way, did the Vespiquen come looking for you last night?" Victor suddenly asked.

"Well—" Gary froze for a moment.

"What did it want? Tell me."

"I can't, Owner. I promised it I wouldn't tell."

"Was it about honey?"

Gary pretended not to hear.

Victor laughed. How could he not have noticed the Vespiquen going to Gary? Gengar notices every little thing.

But since the Vespiquen didn't want him and Gengar to know, he and Gengar would pretend they didn't.

"Take your time eating."

After watching Shana finish her milk, Victor handed the plates to Mime Jr., then stood up with Shana and headed to the backyard.

Gary watched Victor and Shana disappear through the door. He picked up another youtiao, dipped it in milk for a bit, tore off a piece, placed it in his palm, and bent down to share it with his Umbreon, who was eating its own breakfast.

"Eon~" Umbreon ate it in one bite, closing its eyes in satisfaction.

Gary and his Umbreon then quickly finished their breakfast and went to the backyard.

Victor was currently weeding, while Shana was playing hide-and-seek with the Pokémon in the flower garden.

"Owner, is there anything I can help with?"

Seeing the somewhat awkward Gary, Victor couldn't help but laugh. "You don't need to be so tense here. Just relax."

Gary flinched slightly at first, then relaxed and nodded. "I will, Owner."

"Then how about you help me record the psychological and physical conditions of those Pokémon today?" (Referring to the rescued ones.)

"Okay." Gary nodded and turned back towards the house.

"Do you remember which Pokémon they are?"

"I remember."

Gary went back to the counter with his Umbreon, took out a new notebook and a pen from the drawer, and then, based on his memory from last night, found each of those Pokémon and began to interact with them.

After finishing his work, Victor went over near Gary and watched him interact with the Pokémon, sometimes frowning, sometimes smiling as he wrote things down. Some only took a short time to assess, while others required him to spend a significant amount of time communicating. Victor just quietly watched Gary take notes in his small notebook.

Gengar, who had disappeared earlier that morning, reappeared beside Victor. Victor shot it a warning look, then ignored it. Gengar didn't mind. It took out a container of Golden Fruit Sticks and floated beside Victor, watching along with him.

After assessing and recording the last Pokémon, Gary brought the notebook to Victor and handed it to him.

Victor flipped through the notebook. As expected of Professor Oak's grandson.

His notes were well-structured and logical.

Glancing at his conclusions, the Roselia was recovering the fastest, followed by the Teddiursa and the others. The Heracross was the slowest.

Victor closed the notebook with satisfaction and looked at Gary. "Then, as long as you're here, I'll leave the daily observation records to you?"

"Please rest assured!" This was his forte, after all.

Victor then took Gary to find the Heracross. He carefully asked the Heracross some questions, then spent a long time talking with it, comforting and encouraging it until its condition showed some improvement.

After finishing this, Victor let Gary manage his own time. He returned to the front, opened the main doors, and hung the "Open for Business" sign. He asked the Petilil to watch the front desk and call him if any customers arrived. He then went to the kitchen to teach Mime Jr. and Gothita how to brew the herbal tea.

Gary watched the entire process intently, learning.

When four or five batches of tea were ready, Victor poured Gary a bowl of the dehumidifying blend. Gary drank it in one gulp, his brow furrowing. Seeing this, Victor burst out laughing. He then began processing the brewed tea for the day.

Victor carefully attached the order labels, placed the bottles in a small backpack, and checked if Shana's water bottle was filled with honey water. Then he opened the window. "Shana!"

Shana ran over with her Chingling chiming ("Ching~").

"Time for our delivery girl, Little Shana, to set off!" He put her hat on and nodded with satisfaction. Once everything was ready, Shana sat on Dali's shoulders, prepared to head towards Twinleaf Town.

"Wait a moment." Victor and Shana both turned to look at Gary.

Gary said, "How about I go with Shana? Arcanine is a bit faster, anyway."
