The bedroom door opened and Mu Nujiao was gently placed on the bed. She was too nervous to speak.
Song Jie was nervous too, but above all, he was excited. A beauty—someone a gentleman could love—and that beauty was Mu Nujiao.
He launched his advance and the two fell into each other's arms, lost in their own world.
Mu Nujiao felt Song Jie's hands grow restless as they wandered over her. It was embarrassing; she could see a flush rising across her cheeks. The moment was right—he should make his move.
"Song Jie, I'm a little scared…" she whispered.
"It's okay. I'll go slowly," he replied.

In the KTV private room, Ai Tutu finished a song and checked her phone for a reply from Mu Nujiao.
There was still no response.
"What's wrong with Sister Mu? She didn't come, and she hasn't replied," Ai Tutu wondered.
"They might be delayed on the way. They should be back soon," Mu Lei said with a smile.
"No, I'll message Song Jie too," Ai Tutu said, switching chats to send Song Jie a message.
Mu Lei didn't worry—he was sure the two wouldn't be coming back tonight. He picked up the microphone, scanned the lyrics on the screen, and started singing "Today Is a Good Day."
Song Jie's qualities were obvious to everyone, and Mu Lei hoped Mu Nujiao found someone she liked. If the two of them ended up together, he wouldn't object—he'd even help them.
"Oh my god, why did you pick such a cheesy song!" Ai Tutu complained in the chat as she watched the lyrics scroll.
"I'm happy today!" Mu Lei sang, repeating the chorus with a grin.
Ai Tutu was about to head back to check when Mu Lei stopped her. When she finally insisted, he let her go.
As soon as Ai Tutu returned to the rental house, she saw Mu Nujiao sitting on the sofa, eating an apple Song Jie had peeled for her.
"Sister Mu, why didn't you go singing?" Ai Tutu asked.
Mu Nujiao kept her expression calm and explained, "We were going to, but Song Jie seemed to have an upset stomach, so we didn't go."
She thought, not unkindly, that she was getting better at lying—this was exactly what Song Jie had told her to say to handle Ai Tutu and the others.
"So that's what happened." Ai Tutu sat beside Mu Nujiao. "I sent you a message, but you didn't reply."
Mu Nujiao had left her phone on the sofa and hadn't noticed the notification. When Ai Tutu mentioned it, she quickly checked her messages.
"You look tired. Did you really have an upset stomach?" Ai Tutu asked, concerned.
Mu Nujiao hesitated for a moment—she didn't want to explain why she was so exhausted. "I'm fine," she said quickly.
Ai Tutu asked with a smile, "Is that great—great—great demon king okay now?"
"He took some medicine and seems fine," Mu Nujiao replied, though her voice betrayed a little uncertainty. Ai Tutu didn't notice anything off; she was too simple-hearted to suspect more.
"Creak." Song Jie stepped out of the bathroom. Ai Tutu frowned. "Weren't you going to shower earlier?"
"I had an upset stomach and sweated a lot, so I showered again," Song Jie said, his eyes on Mu Nujiao the whole time.
Mu Nujiao felt her face heat—surely he was looking at her on purpose!
"You don't look like you had an upset stomach," Ai Tutu said, relieved when Song Jie seemed fine. But then she recalled earlier events and inwardly hoped Song Jie felt some pain for it.
"If there's nothing else, I'll go back to the bedroom to rest," Song Jie said, waving as he walked toward the room.
Inside, he noticed a fresh red bloodstain on the bedsheet.
Another month passed quietly.
During that time, Song Jie gained a new skill.

"Did you track who they met?" Song Jie asked.
"I'm following them now," Li Rui replied.
"Excellent. Send me your location—I'll come find you now." Song Jie's voice brightened. They'd been tracking these two for so long; finally, contact had been made. His plan could proceed.
Li Rui sent a location. Song Jie hailed a taxi without hesitation.
"My secret stash! I'm coming!"
By the time Song Jie arrived, he and Li Rui stood before a warehouse. The sight felt oddly familiar—like a scene from a novel.
"I followed him all the way, and he hasn't come out since he went in," Li Rui said.
"Who are they?" Li Rui asked, unable to hide her concern.
"Do you know the Black Vatican?" Song Jie asked.
"The Black Vatican?" Li Rui hesitated, then realization dawned. "They're from the Black Vatican?"
Song Jie nodded. "These people came to Magic City looking for me."
"Why would the Black Vatican look for you?" Li Rui pressed.
"I've crossed paths with them before. Maybe they're after revenge," Song Jie said with a small smile.
Li Rui's brow tightened. "Do you want me to handle it?"
"No need. I can deal with them myself." Song Jie put a hand over the phone. "You're my trump card—when I need you, I won't be polite."
Li Rui nodded. Since contracting with Song Jie, she felt they had become inseparable allies. Hearing that the Black Vatican had come to find him stirred a protective, even murderous, impulse within her.
"Wait for me here. I'll take a look," Song Jie instructed, already stepping toward the warehouse.
