Kelly POV
I knocked once on Elena's door even though it was already slightly ajar.
Someone had left it open, probably one of the staff who seemed to move silently through the Kael estate like shadows with perfect posture.
The place always felt like a mixture of old-world elegance and quiet danger, as if every polished surface and marble column had witnessed more secrets than anyone dared speak aloud.
"Come in," Elena's soft voice answered.
I slipped inside, closing the door softly. Elena stood by the long mirror, brushing out her dark hair.
Even dressed simply in an oversized sweater and lounge pants, she looked effortlessly graceful, like a painting come to life.
The room smelled faintly of sandalwood, lavender, and something uniquely her.
She turned, her expression brightening. "Kelly."
