Chapter 44 - Chapter 44 – “The Ride Home”

(Adrian's POV)

The last period of the day was dragging like a slow movie. Sir Alvin stood in front of the board, his glasses slipping a little as he gave us a short recap of the lesson — something about discipline, leadership, and teamwork. Typical Monday stuff.

Then, just when everyone thought he was done, he turned to me and Ciel.

"Mr. and Miss Voss " he said, his tone serious. "I hope you two aren't planning to follow the Section E boys into their usual troubles again."

The whole class went quiet — too quiet.

Ciel elbowed me under the table, whispering, "Say something ."

I sat up straight and forced a smile. "No, sir. We're totally done with… trouble."

From the back, Ci-N muttered loud enough for everyone to hear, "Maybe it's already too late for that, sir."

The class burst into laughter. Even Sir Alvin couldn't hold back a sigh and a small smile. "I expected that answer from you, Ci-N. Don't make me regret teaching this class."

"Wouldn't dream of it, sir," Ci-N said with a grin.

The laughter filled the room again, light and harmless, until the bell finally rang. The sound was pure freedom.

Everyone started packing up, chattering about weekend stories, food, and plans.

I slung my bag over my shoulder, looking at Keifer and Jayjay near the window. Jayjay was playfully fixing his collar while he teased her, whispering something that made her blush. The rest of Section E couldn't help teasing them.

"Get a room, you two!" Yuri called.

"Or at least wait till we leave!" Blaster added, laughing.

Jayjay glared at them, but her smile gave her away. Keifer only smirked and winked, clearly enjoying the teasing.

I shook my head, chuckling. Typical.

As we headed out of the classroom, I turned to Keifer. "Hey, since you left your car at my place, I'll drop you off."

He nodded. "Thanks, man. Appreciate it."

We walked down the hall together, the group trailing behind — some heading to the washroom, some to the canteen, others just goofing around.

Ciel whispered, "You know, for people who almost died last week, they look too relaxed."

I laughed softly. "That's Section E for you. Chaos today, jokes tomorrow."

Keifer leaned toward Jayjay as we reached the stairs. "You know," he said with that half-smirk of his, "if the teacher's worried about me getting into trouble, maybe you should keep an eye on me."

Jayjay rolled her eyes, but her lips curved into a shy smile. "Maybe I should."

Behind them, Yuri groaned dramatically. "I can't with you two. Save it for after school."

Ci-N whistled. "They're gonna break the 'no PDA' rule again."

The group laughed all the way down the hall, the sound of teasing echoing until we reached the parking lot.

The cars waited under the fading afternoon light — my Ford, still parked and Yuri's flashy BMW.

"Alright," I said, tossing my bag into the backseat. "Everyone ready?"

Keifer opened my car door for Jayjay before getting in himself — smooth, as always.

"Careful," I called out, "don't reopen that shoulder wound trying to impress her."

He grinned. "Worth the pain."

Jayjay laughed, trying not to show she was flattered.

Ciel climbed into my passenger seat, buckling up. "Rory and Edrix said they'll follow in Blaster's car. They went to grab something from the locker room."

"Of course they did," I muttered, starting the engine.

As we pulled out of the school gates, Section E looked like a convoy — engines humming, sunlight glinting off metal. Anyone watching would think we were a secret squad heading to a mission instead of just heading home.

In my rear-view mirror, I saw Keifer glance at Jayjay, say something, and she laughed — soft and real. For the first time in days, it didn't look like anyone was haunted.

Ciel looked at me. "Adrian?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you think it's really over?"

I blinked. "What do you mean?"

She looked out the window, her voice low. "Everything that happened… Keifer's dad, the fight, all of it. It feels quiet — too quiet."

I sighed, tightening my grip on the wheel. "I don't know. But if it's not over
