Isshin Shiba's attempt to look pitiful had no effect; he had to stay in Katori Sora's office and copy the class notes.
"Professor, I actually did something amazing just now!" Isshin wrote a few words, then couldn't resist bragging about his deeds.
"What did you do?" Sora asked while reading through the documents in his hand.
There was so much information brought back from Miyamoto Tetsuya's experimental base that he still hadn't finished reading a tenth of it.
"I just ran into Tokinada Tsunayashiro harassing Kakyō, so I went and stopped him!" Isshin gave himself a thumbs-up.
"Tokinada came again? I ran into him on the first day of school," Sora said, raising an eyebrow. Several days had passed, yet the Tsunayashiro family still hadn't given up.
The Spirit Arts Academy was filled with numerous Spiritual Pressure fluctuations, which interfered with one's spiritual sense. Unless he deliberately focused, he wouldn't have noticed an outsider had come to the Academy.
"Kakyō had already rejected Tokinada, but he still came to harass her!" Isshin showed a disgusted expression. "That Tokinada guy doesn't have a very good reputation. If Kakyō got fooled by him, she'd be in for a miserable time. Luckily, Sōsuke and I ran into them, and we drove him away!"
"Sōsuke skipped class with you too?" Sora stroked his chin, curious as to how the truant Sōsuke Aizen wasn't punished by Professor Shirai. "You two did well. I warned Kakyō that day to come to me if she ran into trouble. It seems she's still too embarrassed to bother me."
He could understand Kakyō's thinking. She was afraid that causing trouble for her professor right after becoming his disciple would leave a bad impression.
"So, can I stop copying now?" Isshin asked with a hopeful expression, revealing his true motive.
"One thing has nothing to do with the other. You helped a fellow disciple, so you won't be punished when we get back to the dojo," Sora said with a smile. "However, you still skipped class, so you'd better obediently complete Professor Shirai's punishment!"
"I still have to copy!" Isshin's face fell.
"You copy here. I'm going to talk to the Deputy Headmaster about this. Don't even think about slacking off. I'll be checking your work when I get back," Sora said before leaving the office.
Kakyō had already made her stance clear, but it seemed the Tsunayashiro family hadn't given up on the idea of her marrying into their clan. Sora intended to communicate with the Deputy Headmaster about it.
The Deputy Headmaster's office was in the same building. He soon arrived at the office.
"Ah, Professor Katori. Please, have a seat," Deputy Headmaster Tsunayashiro was quite enthusiastic, pouring Sora a cup of tea. "I was just thinking of going to see you, Professor Katori. I didn't expect you to come here first."
"Did you need to see me for something, Deputy Headmaster?" Sora asked.
"I just heard from Tokinada that you've already accepted Kakyō as your disciple," the Deputy Headmaster said with a kind smile. "We were right about her. To be valued by you, Professor Katori, Kakyō must be very talented."
"Kakyō's talent is indeed quite good, and she is a very hardworking child herself," Sora nodded lightly.
"Talented and hardworking, a genius like that is worth your effort to train, Professor Katori!" the Deputy Headmaster exclaimed. "Tokinada was Captain-Commander Yamamoto's student. His strength and abilities in all aspects are quite good, it's just that his temperament is a bit lacking. But that's only because he's young. I'm sure he will change after getting married."
"I think Tokinada and Kakyō are a good match. Could you help bring them together, Professor Katori? The Deputy Headmaster's smile became a little stiff. Sora paid it no mind and continued:
"I came here today to make this matter clear. Kakyō currently only wants to focus on her training and has no intention of getting married. I ask that the Tsunayashiro family not disturb her training in the future."
"One can only go far if they have a broad mind, Professor Katori," the Deputy Headmaster's face turned much colder.
He believed that Sora was refusing this mutually beneficial arrangement because he was still holding a grudge from when Tokinada had competed with him for the department head position.
The Deputy Headmaster was furious. In that matter, it was the Tsunayashiro family who had lost out. Their carefully laid plans had ended up benefiting a new professor. If they hadn't been concerned about Yamamoto's attention on the matter at the time, they would have dealt with Sora long ago.
But what they hadn't expected was for Sora's strength and reputation to grow at a terrifying rate. In just a few short years, he had become someone even the Tsunayashiro family had to be wary of.
The cost of retaliating against Sora was too high, so the Deputy Headmaster had temporarily given up on the idea.
The Tsunayashiro family was willing to let it go, but now Sora was still hung up on that old grudge!
"I will not sacrifice my disciple for my own benefit," Sora said, getting up to leave. He glanced discreetly at the room behind the office. "I've said what I came to say. I hope the Tsunayashiro family will not bother Kakyō again."
After Sora left, the Deputy Headmaster's expression changed rapidly.
"Insolent fool!"
CRASH—
The desk collapsed under his furious blow.
"I told you he wouldn't agree. Your actions were just a waste of effort," Tokinada Tsunayashiro said, crossing his arms as he walked out from the back room.
The layout of the Deputy Headmaster's office was slightly different from the other professors' offices; it had an extra private room.
Tokinada had not left and had been waiting in that room the whole time.
