My father had left a message to terrify me, and that too in Lorenzo's penthouse.
I stood there, holding the note, realizing that neither side was waiting for me to choose. They were both going to force me soon.
I walked to Lorenzo's study with the note. He was at his desk.
"We have a problem." I said, holding out the note.
His expression went completely cold as he read it.
"When did this come?"
"While we were at the estate. He had access to this home, Lorenzo."
"He's sending a message."
"Yes. That he can get to us anytime he wants."
"He's escalating faster than we anticipated."
"What do we do?"
"We prepare for war. Because your father isn't going to wait much longer. You have to choose. Him or me. Family or marriage. Old life or new one."
"And if I can't choose?"
"Then we both die."
The words stung but were true.
