ELENA POV
"Something's wrong," Maya said quietly. "Do you need to"
Martina appeared in the doorway. His expression told me everything.
"Elena, we need to talk."
My heart stopped. "The verdict?"
"Yes. It just came in."
I stood, legs shaking. "And?"
"Guilty. On all counts."
The room tilted.
Guilty.
Damien was convicted.
"Sentencing is scheduled for next week," Martina continued. "But Elena, you need to finish this interview. We can't just stop"
"I can't. Not right now."
"Elena"
"I said I can't!" My voice broke.
Maya stepped forward. "It's okay. We have enough footage. We can edit around this."
"No." I wiped my eyes angrily. "No, we finish. Damien would want me to finish."
"Are you sure?" Maya asked.
"Yes. Give me five minutes to compose myself. Then we continue."
I stepped into the hallway with Martina.
"How bad?" I asked.
"Guilty on accessory after the fact to murder, obstruction of justice, and improper disposal of human remains. The jury came back unanimous."
