Chapter 36 - 3: SPECIAL - “THE FESTIVAL NIGHT”

Two years after founding the Azure Sky Academy, the cultivation world celebrated the Festival of Stars—an annual event where cultivators set aside conflicts for three days of peace.

The academy hosted festivities. Lanterns floated in the sky, carrying wishes and prayers. Music played. Students laughed and danced.

Kai and Yuhan, as academy headmasters, were expected to attend. They stood at the edge of the celebration, watching.

"We should mingle," Yuhan said.

"We should," Kai agreed, making no move to do so.

"Not very headmaster-like, hiding in the shadows."

"I ruled three realms. I've mingled enough for several lifetimes."

Yuhan laughed. "Fair point." He took Kai's hand. "Dance with me?"

"Here? Everyone will see."

"Let them." Yuhan pulled Kai toward the dance area. "We've hidden enough. Let's be honest about what we are."

They danced, and yes, people noticed. Students whispered, pointed, smiled. Some looked shocked. Others looked like they'd known all along.

"This is going to be talked about for weeks," Kai said as they moved together.

"Good. Let them see that their headmasters are human. That we love each other. Maybe it'll inspire some of them." Yuhan spun Kai, making him laugh. "Besides, I'm tired of pretending we're just martial brothers. Everyone knows anyway."

"Master Jian definitely knows."

"He's known since day one."

The music shifted to something slower. Yuhan pulled Kai close, one hand on his waist, the other clasping his hand.

"I used to dream about this," Yuhan admitted quietly. "In our previous life, during the wars. I'd imagine a world where we could just... exist. Together. Openly. Not hiding, not constantly fighting."

"We built that world."

"We did." Yuhan's smile was radiant. "We actually did."

Around them, other couples began to dance. Students who'd been too shy, now encouraged by their headmasters' example. The festival took on new energy, more joyful, more free.

Kai rested his head on Yuhan's shoulder. "Thank you."

"For what?"

"For finding me. In both lives. For not giving up on us."

"Never. I'd search through a thousand lifetimes to find you."

They danced until the stars wheeled overhead, until the lanterns burned low, until the music faded to whispers.

And when they finally retired to their shared quarters (another fact everyone knew but politely didn't mention), they fell into bed laughing, drunk on joy more than wine.

"I love you," Kai said, pulling Yuhan close.

"I love you too." Yuhan kissed his forehead. "In this life and every life after."
