Chapter 41 Jack's Message in a Bottle
As an actress playing Elizabeth, how could she not play Pirates of the Caribbean?
And so, Matthias Engel lured Laura Schmidt into the game.
"Wow, the graphics in this game are so realistic! Matthias, where are you? I'll come find you," Laura said, her eyes fixed on the screen.
"You should get familiar with the game by yourself first; I'm quite busy over here," Matthias replied, not looking up from his own work.
"Hmph, then I'll just play by myself."
Laura sat in front of her sister's computer in their German apartment, intently controlling her character. Under Matthias's persuasion, she now had a goal: to reach level 20 and meet the NPC Elizabeth in Royal Port.
While Laura was immersed in the game, Matthias closed his eyes and entered the world of Pirates of the Caribbean through the Game Producer System.
At this moment, Lena fished out a message in a bottle. Opening the bottle, she found a few lines of text inside.
"Save me!"
The signature was Jack Sparrow.
Lena was a little puzzled: "That legendary pirate named Jack is in trouble?"
She sought help from the live stream comments, but it was clear that other players also didn't know what had happened. So she started asking around for Captain Jack's whereabouts, thinking it might be a hidden quest. She knew that in this game, epic and legendary items were unique and could only be dropped by special bosses or obtained through hidden quests. She didn't want to miss this opportunity.
After some inquiries, she learned of Jack's whereabouts from a merchant.
"I heard news about Jack in Turkey; he seems to have been captured and is being held in a prison there," the merchant truthfully said.
As for why Jack was captured and imprisoned, no one knew, but it was most likely because he was causing trouble in Turkey. Lena had a vague feeling that Captain Jack played a significant role in Pirates of the Caribbean.
So Lena sailed her ship through the Aegean Sea and arrived in beautiful Turkey. Turkey is surrounded by sea on three sides: the Black Sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Aegean Sea to the west. West of the Aegean Sea is Greece, with countless small islands scattered across the water.
Many international players could be seen sailing around and playing here. Not everyone likes to level up; some are 'scenery enthusiasts' who enjoy sailing and fishing, treating this game as a fishing simulator.
"Haha, I caught another one! This fish can sell for ten euros!" one fisherman exulted.
Fish could be used for cooking, especially high-quality fish, which many guild alliances were collecting in large quantities. Dishes made from these fish could grant them temporary attributes, which were very useful during initial dungeon clears. Just as the fisherman was about to bring his fish ashore, a group of pirate players stopped him.
"Hand over all your fish!"
"No way! I spent a whole day fishing for these; why should I give them to you?"
"Alright, alright, so you don't know what's good for you, huh?"
Several pirates activated their Plunder skill.
"The enemy player has activated the Plunder skill. Do you wish to fight them? If you win, you will plunder their resources. If you lose, all your resources will be plundered."
"You're going too far! I'll fight you!"
The outcome was obvious: the player was ganged up on by the pirates, and all his resources were plundered. The pirates who had plundered the resources did not kill him, because killing too many people easily led to attacks from the navy; if not for this mechanism, they would have acted long ago.
"Haha, let's catch more fish tomorrow. These fish are enough for our dinner tonight, haha!"
The pirates swaggered away, and the surrounding players watched the commotion. Indeed, you might want to fish, but there are always some people who won't let you enjoy it easily, so you must become stronger to prevent others from trampling on your hobbies. Another method is to join a powerful alliance; with an alliance backing you, others wouldn't dare to act recklessly. There are no teleportation scrolls or similar items in this world, so once you're being chased and can't outrun others, the outcome is imaginable.
Lena moored her ship in Turkey and began to inquire about Jack after going ashore. She asked around, but no one knew. Just as she was about to move to another spot, a shifty-eyed pirate approached her.
"Are you looking for Jack Sparrow? I know where he is."
"Where is he?"
The pirate rubbed his hands together, his meaning clear: he wanted money. "Give me ten gold coins, and I'll tell you his whereabouts."
Lena nodded: "Okay, let's find a secluded place to trade."
And so, Lena led him into an alley, along with Mina and Bruso, and the three surrounded him. She immediately activated her Intimidate skill: "If you don't speak, don't even think about leaving this alley. There's no one here, and no one will care if there's an extra corpse."
"Intimidation judgment successful!"
"Don't kill me! I'll tell you his location. He's currently imprisoned in the Great Turkish Prison. See that castle on the steep cliff in the distance? He's there!"
"Obtained intelligence on Captain Jack. Please proceed to the Great Turkish Prison to rescue Jack. Successfully rescuing him will grant you an epic item."
Sure enough, there was a reward. Currently, a good epic item could sell for hundreds of thousands, and Lena felt that doing quests in Pirates of the Caribbean earned her more money than competing in professional gaming matches before.
"You may leave."
Upon hearing this, the pirate scurried away, disappearing without a trace. Immediately after, Lena arrived near the prison. The prison was built next to a cliff, with howling winds and occasional screams echoing from within. There was a glowing circle at the entrance, which appeared to be a dungeon area.
Lena randomly called out a few words in her live stream, and nearby fans immediately rushed over, forming a ten-person team with her. This prison was an epic team dungeon, and no player had attempted it so far, so this group of people today would be the raid party.
"Entering the dungeon requires Captain Jack's message in a bottle. It has been detected that you possess the message in a bottle; you may enter!"
As the team leader, Lena led everyone into the dungeon, and at the same time, the message in a bottle was taken by the system. If they didn't succeed this time, there might not be another chance.
The scene shifted, and Lena and the others appeared inside the prison. Not far away, a guard walked around with a patrol dog, and a group of guards sat chatting.
"First, let's pull that patrolling guard and test the strength," Lena said.
"Don't worry, Leni Sis, leave this kind of thing to me," a pirate musketeer fan said.
"Mm, good luck!"
The pirate player took out his excellent-quality extended flintlock musket, lay on the ground, aimed, and pulled the trigger. With a bang, a bullet flew out, precisely hitting a clay pot and attracting all the surrounding guards.
"It's over!"
"Everyone, don't panic. Pay attention to our formation. We have ten people; there's no need to be afraid. Melee fighters stand in front, and everyone else is responsible for damage output!"
Under Lena's command, everyone quickly took their positions, ready to face the first wave of challenge.
