Chapter 47 Charm Comes from Confidence

These past few days, Laura has been completely immersed in the game. Matthias Engel would often stand behind her, watching her clumsy gameplay. Under her meticulous planning, she and Elizabeth failed three consecutive prison breaks.

"Why don't we just stay put?" Matthias was sweating for her. If this continued, Elizabeth's trust level would disappear, which would be very detrimental to her future rewards.

"It's okay, I've already thought of an even more perfect escape plan, hehe~~"

After the guards left, Laura used her lock-picking skill to open her cell, then Elizabeth's cell. The two held hands and chose another route to escape.

"This path is the safest, Elizabeth, we're about to get out."

No sooner had she spoken than a group of people rushed from the opposite direction, surrounding the two. Matthias shook his head; such a crude escape route showed a worrying lack of intelligence. Fortunately, there was a change this time: Elizabeth's father, Governor Swann, appeared.

Swann held his daughter Elizabeth's hand: "Daughter, I've arranged for someone to send you back to London; you must leave now."

Swann kept winking at Elizabeth; it was clear he intended to rescue her. Elizabeth understood her father's intentions: "Hmm, I'll leave Royal Port now, Laura, come with me."

"Okay, Elizabeth!" Laura was very happy to hear this; she was finally getting out of this dark cell.

So, Laura followed Elizabeth and embarked on the journey to London. Now, without Matthias's guidance, this young woman was completely engrossed in the game.

"Don't you have to go to work at the company?" Matthias asked.

"My sister said I worked too hard filming, so I'll go back to work after the February holidays. What about you, aren't you going to the factory to screw in screws anymore?"

"My hands have been a bit sore these past few days, so I can't screw in screws."

Just as he finished speaking, Matthias's phone rang; it was Katja Weber calling. Katja was the new general manager recruited by GAME STAR, a brilliant woman who graduated from Cambridge University. Matthias was somewhat surprised when she came to apply with her resume that day.

When he asked her why she wanted to join this nascent company, Katja replied that she valued the company's potential more. Moreover, she knew Matthias very well, and she spoke eloquently about his brilliant resume at GG Games. This was also one of the reasons she chose to join GAME STAR. Since that was the case, Matthias wasted no words and hired this talented woman. That's why he had been free these days to do other things.

"What's up, Katja?"

"General Manager Engel, there's some trouble with the peripherals. LogiTech said they want to launch co-branded peripherals, but the design must be theirs. What do you think?"

"Then let's switch to another company. Try Razer; their peripherals are also good. In short, the design rights for co-branded products must be in our hands."

"Understood, General Manager Engel."

After hanging up the phone, Laura looked at Matthias with surprise. Matthias looked back at her, thinking she must have guessed something. But he didn't expect this:

"Matthias, did you find a girlfriend!"

"You really are a genius, aren't you."

"Really? Do you have a picture? Let me see what that woman named Katja looks like?" Laura was full of curiosity.

"No."

"Let me see~" Laura started to act spoiled again.

Just then, the door opened, and Maria Schmidt walked in, seeing the two in an intimate pose. Maria froze for a moment: "You two, you aren't...?"

Laura quickly let go of his arm, her face flushing instantly: "Maria, it's not what you think. Matthias already has a girlfriend. I just heard them on the phone, and I wanted to see a picture of that woman, but Matthias wouldn't show me!"

"Oh, I see." Maria smiled knowingly: "That's good news then. I'm also curious what your girlfriend looks like."

"I don't have a girlfriend; Laura just misunderstood."

"Hmph~" Both ladies simultaneously scoffed. It seems girls all like to hear such gossip.

"Enough about me, where are your boyfriends?" Matthias retorted.

Maria took off her boots and put on slippers: "I have no intention of finding a boyfriend. I only want to focus on my career now. The Pirates of the Caribbean promotional activities have been very busy recently."

"Did that guy Carl Schmidt try to trick you?" Matthias asked.

"No, all the contracts signed were legitimate business agreements. We provide people for promotional activities, and they are responsible for paying. The cooperation has been smooth. However, there have been some unpleasant things related to Demon Star."

"Demon Star?"

"Yes, that guy Richter, who invested in 'Shadow Chasing.' Several venues we had previously selected were taken by him using his connections to promote their movie, causing us to miss several promotional events."

"That guy Hans Richter loves to play dirty tricks."

"I almost forgot, you two used to be sworn enemies. But look at him now, still a CEO, while you've become a homebody," Maria teased.

"A homebody also has his day to rise. He's just a grasshopper after autumn now, he won't be jumping for many more days. With Pirates of the Caribbean premiering at the same time during the holidays, his movie won't even get a screening slot."

"Are you that confident in Pirates of the Caribbean, starring our Laura?"

"Naturally, just wait and see."

"Indeed, a man's charm lies in his confidence. What are we eating tonight?"

"Let's order takeout."

"No, have you not seen the news lately? Tonight, I'll show off my cooking skills." Maria rolled up her sleeves, ready to get busy in the kitchen.

Matthias almost blacked out at this sight; he was going to eat "experimental" cuisine again tonight. After dinner, Matthias returned to his room. He entered the game and controlled his character to escape from the Royal Port prison. He also played games in his free time; as a game producer, experiencing games through the Game Producer System was also for the purpose of making better games.

His profession was an appraiser, who could appraise equipment. Many pieces of equipment needed to be appraised before their attributes could be displayed, so he would set up a stall to appraise items in his free time, charging an appraisal fee. Each successful appraisal would bring an increase in experience, which was also one of the ways for merchants to level up. He had a fixed stall in the Royal Port market.

Squatting there every day also brought in a considerable income.

"Appraise this glove. If it's excellent quality, I'll tip you ten gold coins," a player came to the stall and said.

Matthias took the glove and began to appraise it. A pale green light flashed, and an excellent quality glove appeared.

"What a joke! This is a glove I painstakingly acquired. How is it only appraised as excellent quality? It should at least be rare!"

"Calm down, this is the original quality of the glove. I merely unveiled its true nature."

"I don't believe it! You ruined my equipment!" The player drew out his scimitar.

Matthias immediately activated the merchant's unique module skill: Call Market Guards. Within seconds, a group of Royal Port guards rushed over and apprehended the player.

"Let me go! Let me go!"

This player, suspected of disturbing market order, happily received three days of silver handcuffs.
