Chapter 678 - Chapter 69: Defense Against the Dark Arts Class

On Tuesday morning, it's Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Vid checked the time and arrived outside the classroom, only to find Slytherin and Ravenclaw students crowded in the hallway chatting, the classroom door for Defense Against the Dark Arts wasn't even open.

"What, is the door locked?" Vid went over and asked, "Or has the classroom location changed?"

"No." Padma, who was chatting with Lisa, turned around, looking troubled and said, "Because... you know... the one teaching us now is Professor Moody..."

Compared to the gentle and kind Professor Trokka, the gap in image with the new professor was too large, and Padma felt she couldn't accept it all at once.

But Vid didn't understand everyone's concerns and fears, as he often saw Moody every time he went home for vacation. Being used to it, he didn't find that face frightening anymore.

Thus, Vid said casually, "Yeah, I've been looking forward to learning a few tricks from him for a long time now."

Vid moved through the students in the hallway and reached out to push open the oak door.

"Squeak—"

Moody was sitting at a high stool at the front of the classroom, leaning on his cane with both hands. His gray hair was somewhat disheveled, and his scarred face showed no expression.

His normal black eye stared at the door, as if facing some dangerous enemy, while his other large blue eye rolled up, down, left, right, suddenly retreating into his head, leaving the students outside to see only a white eyeball.

The students who were chatting outside suddenly became silent, each following Vid inside the classroom quietly.

At that moment, the class bell rang, and several students who were lagging quickly rushed to their seats.

Moody was indifferent to the students' secretive glances, fears, and disgust, as he took out the roster and began calling roll.

When he reached Draco Malfoy's name, Moody paused for a moment, glancing around without saying anything, before continuing to the next name.

After finishing the roll call, Moody struggled to stand up with his cane, glanced at the textbooks on the students' desks and said, "Put them away, there's no theory lesson today."

Everyone packed their books into their bags at once, and Moody waved his magic wand; the originally open door slammed shut in an instant, scaring several people.

Then, with another wave of his wand, all the tables and chairs seemed to grow legs and quickly moved to the corners, leaving a group of students standing with magic wands in the center of the classroom.

Moody stepped down from the podium, dragging his wooden leg, and walked in circles among the students, his magic eye spinning wildly, scanning everyone.

He said in a rough voice, "Defense Against the Dark Arts is not about making you memorize books! What you need to learn is how to deal with Dark Magic and save your life in the face of a real Dark Wizard."

Moody suddenly waved his wand, and Goyle, who was sneaking food into his mouth, didn't even have time to scream before he was thrown out forcefully, only yelling "Ah" when he hit the wall.

Students were shocked, and those closest to Moody quickly moved away.

Michael suddenly felt a bad premonition rise in his heart, he glanced at Vid, as if saying—Why do you always prefer this kind of professor?

Clearly, Moody's actions reminded him of Abigail, as both of them were the kind who would drop their faces and hit students without warning.

Vid smirked, silently mouthing, "Stay vigilant."

"See that?" Moody snorted coldly, "Dark Wizards won't warn you in advance, they don't follow any duel etiquette—they won't wait for you to be ready, they'll strike when you least expect it! You must be prepared, stay vigilant!"

In the middle of his speech, Moody gave a slight shake of his wand, a beam of red light hit Michael, knocking him out, then another red beam shot at Vid, but was blocked by an invisible armor.

The spell bounced off, hitting Pansy, who screamed, and then there were two people lying on the ground in the classroom.

Moody looked at Vid unexpectedly, his magic eye fixed on him, and after a moment said, "Nice Iron Armor Spell."

Vid nodded slightly, said nothing, but didn't dare to whisper anymore.

His gaze fell on Moody's hand, feeling that the interval between the two Disarming Spells just now was very short, the act of casting the spell was also very hidden, and just this kind of combat skill was worth learning.

"Very good, someone blocked my spell, but the others obviously don't have that ability..."

Moody noticed several students crawling up from the ground looking at him accusingly, especially Pansy seemed rather angry, he grinned.

That expression was quite frightening on his face.

"What, feel it's unfair?" Moody turned to the Slytherin side and asked Pansy, "Do you think I should count down three, two, one, and cast the spell only after you're ready, so I'd look more like a professor?"

"Shouldn't you?" Pansy said sullenly, "You're a professor, not a Dark Wizard, so we weren't prepared!"

"Makes sense..." Moody didn't lose his temper but said hoarsely, "But this is your first lesson; remember... always stay vigilant, no matter who the other party is!"

Moody walked over to Draco Malfoy and asked, "I remember you also went to see the World Cup final. Tell me—did you have any preparation when the Leprechaun attacked the camp?"

All the students in the classroom turned their eyes to the two of them, the classroom fell silent.

Malfoy looked at him expressionlessly, his face stiffly said, "No, sir."

"Were any of you injured?" Moody asked again.

"No, sir." Malfoy said.

"Why?" Moody leaned closer to ask, his mutilated face quickly enlarged in Malfoy's view, he asked, "Did the Leprechaun go easy on you?"

"No." Malfoy said dryly, tensing his face, "We hid in the forest."

"Look at this, if you were like Malfoy, you wouldn't say something silly like 'why the surprise attack' that night at the campsite!"

Moody withdrew his gaze from Malfoy's face and continued circling among the students, growling:

"True assaults often come unexpectedly, and so does death! But you might not have his luck, survive such an attack!"

Vid glanced at the pale-faced Malfoy, feeling that the word "luck" Moody mentioned, should rather be replaced with "parents" to be more accurate.

"You can't always learn magic according to rules, you must learn to handle the most dangerous, chaotic situations!" Moody said, "Now, in pairs, start practicing Defense Spell... Let me see how good you are!"

He waved his magic wand again, making dozens of thick cushions appear around the classroom, then returned to the podium. Turning around, he saw most of the students still standing there foolishly, seeming to wait for group division orders.

"Get moving!" Moody roared, "The enemy is right next to you! Do you still want to wait for them to attack first?"

"Whoosh—"

Accompanied by a flash of spell light, Vid first knocked Michael out of the game.
