Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Cerulean Gym's Battle

Daisy smiled slightly, "Whether it's being a Trainer or performing water ballet, both are our main professions. Alright, please come."

Led by the three, William followed them through a passage and arrived at the edge of the swimming pool.

At this moment, the audience who had just come to watch the performance had all left, and there was no one to disturb them.

It was then that, as the other two sisters threw floating boards into the pool, the battleground was completed with such a simple operation.

One could only say, it was quite perfunctory…

But then again…

William's gaze swept back and forth across the floating boards a few times, not daring to be careless. After all, it was a Water attribute Gym, surrounded by water.

"Alright." Violet clapped her hands and smiled, "Now we can battle!"

Without saying anything more, William walked to the Trainer command area on the other side, facing the three sisters across the water.

And similarly, looking at him from afar, Daisy's voice came over.

"The battle rules here are simple. Each of us three will use one Pokémon. As long as you defeat all of us, you will have successfully challenged us!"

Violet crossed her arms, a look of amusement on her face, "So, who do you want to challenge first?"

One could say, it was that very sentence just now that slightly ignited some fighting spirit in them!

William's gaze swept over each of their faces, but he couldn't see anything in particular.

"Anyone is fine, you all decide."

"That's quite a big talk." As the third sister, Lily volunteered, stepping forward and taking out a Poké Ball from her pocket. "Since that's the case, let me meet you first! Come out, Goldeen!"

She opened the Poké Ball, and with a flash of blue light, a white fish with a single horn on its head was placed into the pool.

Goldeen's data flashed through William's mind.

William's eyes sharpened. He reached for his belt, fingers brushing over each Poké Ball until they stopped on the first one.

"Let's start this strong," he murmured, unhooking it and tossing it forward. "Eevee, you're up!"

A flash of light exploded at the pool's edge, and with a bark, Eevee landed gracefully on the nearest floating board.

"Vee!"

Her fur gleamed under the lights, every hair standing sharp and ready. She gave a quick flick of her tail with eager, confident, her amber eyes fixed on the moving target in the water.

Lily was the first to move. "Goldeen, start us off! Agility and then Water Pulse!"

Goldeen dove, her body shimmering as she zigzagged through the pool, the speed rippling through the water's surface like lightning. Then, as she surfaced, her horn glowed blue, and a wave of condensed water pressure burst forward with a spinning sphere of sound and liquid energy.

William's eyes tracked every ripple, his mind running at full speed. 'Fast. But predictable trajectory.'

"Eevee, Quick Attack! Move... and jump right!"

Eevee leapt just as the Water Pulse tore through the air, splashing across the floating board with explosive force. A spray of mist shot upward, soaking the edges of the field.

Eevee landed lightly on another board, her small paws gripping the slick surface.

Lily laughed. "Not bad! But can you keep dodging forever?"

"Guess we'll find out," William said evenly, his gaze never leaving the water.

Goldeen spun again, launching a second Water Pulse but this one wider, faster.

"Double Quick Attack!" William called. "Dash across the boards!"

Eevee blurred, her body flickering from board to board like a streak of light. Each pulse missed by inches, water exploding behind her in perfect rhythm with the music still faintly echoing through the gym speakers.

Lily's expression changed.

"He's reading her speed…"

William clenched a fist. 'The pool gives Goldeen the advantage, but the boards are narrow. That horn strike can't reach the air if Eevee stays unpredictable.'

The third Water Pulse came which is stronger, direct. William saw the faint shimmer before it launched.

"Now! Shadow Ball, straight ahead!"

Eevee's mouth glowed dark violet, and a sphere of shadow energy burst forward, colliding with the Water Pulse midair. A violent explosion of mist and sound erupted across the pool.

The audience would've gasped. The three sisters watching from the side leaned forward in surprise.

When the mist cleared, Eevee stood crouched low, fur soaked but eyes bright. Across from her, Goldeen surfaced, horn cracked with faint energy sparks.

Lily gritted her teeth. "She's tougher than I thought… Goldeen, Dive and Horn Attack!"

Goldeen slipped beneath the surface with silent, fast.

William's eyes narrowed.

'She's hunting under the water… can't see the approach…'

He scanned the ripples. The reflection of the ceiling lights broke rhythm near the far end of the pool.

"There!"

"Eevee, jump high. Now!"

The moment Eevee leapt, Goldeen burst out of the water below, her horn stabbing through the space Eevee had just vacated which is slicing through the board with a sharp crack.

Before Goldeen could land back in the water, William's command came fast.

"Bite!"

Midair, Eevee twisted, her jaws glowing white. She latched onto Goldeen's dorsal fin and threw her off balance. Both Pokémon hit the water. One predator and prey reversed.

"Now, Swift!"

Eevee's body lit with gold light and stars burst outward underwater, cutting through the surface like fireworks. The entire pool shimmered golden.

When the light faded, Goldeen floated to the edge, eyes spinning.

"Goldeen is unable to battle!" Daisy called from the referee stand.

William exhaled softly, brushing back his damp hair. "Good job, Eevee."

Eevee shook herself dry, fur puffing out as she landed back on the floating platform.

Lily sighed, recalling her fainted partner. "Okay, okay, you win. But don't get too full of yourself. Violet's up next!"

She winked at her middle sister before stepping back.

Violet, calm and elegant, adjusted her hairband and stepped forward. Her blue eyes gleamed with measured confidence.

"Nice work with your Eevee. But I'm not like Lily. I don't play around. Let's see how you handle this."

"Krabby, you're on!"

The Poké Ball burst open, releasing a red crab Pokémon onto the nearest platform. Its pincers clicked sharply, and it gave a sharp "Krab!" before striking a battle stance.
