Chapter 235 - Chapter 219: Death by Traps?

"Duel!" x2

[Yugen, LP 4000]

[Bishop, LP 4000]

"Looks like I go first."

The Bishop grunted deeply.

"My turn, draw."

He glanced at his hand and quickly pulled out a card: "Activate the Magic Card 'Pot of Greedy Modesty', reveal the top three cards of my deck, choose one to add to my hand, then return the rest to the deck."

Yugen squinted his eyes.

Isn't that the legendary QQ Pot?

Back in the Synchro to Xyz Era, Pot of Greedy Modesty was almost equivalent to the ancient Pot of Greed—almost all competitive decks had it.

Although Pot of Greedy Modesty has the restriction of not being able to Special Summon during the turn it's activated, that was entirely acceptable given the game's speed at the time.

In fact, Yugen had searched the market for any card with "Pot" in its name, so he knew that Pot of Greedy Modesty hadn't been released yet, but it seemed that internally within the Kaiba Group and the International Illusion Association, there had already been news, possibly a new card not yet announced.

Yugen nodded slightly. No wonder he could recognize a distinguished monster, indeed, his hand already contained something more valuable than the junk card decks in the bunker.

Actually, for him now, QQ Pot might not be useful, but since it's free, having one could be good.

The Demon Bishop drew three cards from the top of his deck at once, then smirked: "Heh, seems like your luck isn't great, flipping such a powerful card right away..."

He then revealed one of the cards: "According to the effect of 'Pot of Greedy Modesty', I choose this powerful Trap, 'Blast Armor', to add to my hand!"

Yugen: "......"

Well, what can I say...

It really is a powerful Trap.

In every sense of the word.

"Then activate the Magic Card 'Pot of Greed', draw two cards from the deck." The Bishop drew his cards, "Then summon 'Lion-headed Short-beaked Crocodile'!"

[Lion-headed Short-beaked Crocodile, Attack Power 1900]

"Next, set two cards in the back row, turn ends." The Bishop said.

Yugen glanced at the opponent's monster on the field.

Crocodile, actually not using the Demon Race...

Then he recalled that since this person entered, it was all Water Magic leading the way, and seemingly all based on Water Magic.

"I see, a Water Mage, so you're using a Water Attribute deck." Yugen realized, "Then my turn, draw.

Activate the Speed Attack Magic 'Handwriting Destruction' from the hand, both players discard two cards from their hand to the graveyard, then draw two cards."

The Demon Bishop picked two cards from his hand and discarded them, chuckling softly.

"Seems like not an ideal hand. It's not too late to surrender now..."

Yugen paid no mind, drawing five cards in one go.

"Set five cards in the back row, turn ends."

Demon Bishop: "?"

Count of the Undead: "?"

No monster summoning?

And starting with five set cards...

What kind of tactic is this?

"Even after switching hands, didn't draw a summonable monster." The Demon Bishop sneered, "Just a clown jumping around... Well, it's unlikely to encounter any strong opponents in a place like this anyway."

The Count of the Undead said cautiously: "Be careful, I feel like this kid might be fishy..."

The Count was quite reclusive in the bunker, and hadn't seen the duel in the square earlier. But from the opponent's calm demeanor and the confidence in having five set cards in the back row without hesitation, he instinctively felt something was wrong.

"Relax, Count, just a small fry. I can deal with this in a couple of moves." The Bishop shouted, "My turn, draw card!

Activate the Speed Attack Magic 'Tornado', first destroy one of your back row cards..."

"Then Chain Tornado, activating set card, Trap Card 'Pandora's Treasure Scroll'." Yugen countered without hesitation, "When the opponent activates an effect targeting their own Magic Trap Zone card, transfer that target to this card. Then, draw two cards from the deck." (Original Card)

"What?"

The Bishop frowned, watching his own tornado transfer from Free Ride to that "Pandora's Treasure Scroll." Yugen immediately drew a card from the deck.

"Tch, you even have a countermeasure to protect your back row..."

The Demon Bishop pouted unhappily.

"Then I'll activate the Magic Card 'Burial Spell Treasure Scroll,' banish 'Pot of Greed,' 'Tornado,' and 'Pot of Greedy Modesty' from the graveyard, and draw two cards from the deck." (Original Card)

Yugen also waved his hand and revealed a back row card: "Then at this moment, I'll activate the Continuous Trap 'Free Ride.' This activates when the opponent draws cards outside their draw phase. After this, whenever the opponent draws cards outside their draw phase, I can also draw two cards from the deck."

"Planning to draw cards through my draw effect?" The Bishop frowned.

As he spoke, the images of the three Magic Cards appeared, turning into golden light points and dispersed. The Demon Bishop drew two cards.

Glancing at the drawn cards, the Bishop immediately revealed one of them.

"Then, next is the effect of the monster in my hand, 'Water Spirit Akuaelia!' This card can be Special Summoned by banishing a Water Attribute monster from the graveyard!

I banish a Water Attribute monster I discarded due to your 'Handwriting Destruction' effect from the previous turn, and Special Summon Akuaelia!"

A vortex to the graveyard opened, and a Monster Card appeared out of it, sucked into the watery whirlpool and vanished. A burst of water erupted on the field, and the Water Spirit, a maiden with water-blue hair, emerged slowly from the water curtain.

[Water Spirit Akuaelia, Attack Power 1600]

Wisdom flashed in her eyes; she looked like an intelligent spirit.

Of course, Yugen didn't show mercy just because it was an intelligent-looking waifu card. He lightly waved his hand: "Then open the set card, the Trap Card 'Electric Dark Stone Fire.' It can negate the Special Summon of one of the opponent's monsters." (Original Card)

A pitch-black thunder fell, hitting Akuaelia with a bang. The Water Spirit shrieked, lost her footing, and exploded into pieces under the dark electric light.

"Damn it, treating Akuaelia like that..."

The Demon Bishop seemed somewhat angry.

"Then, I'll summon 'Sea Scale Snake!'

The snake was covered in bright red, with scales arranged like armor tightly over its skin, as if stained red with blood. Its slender and agile body showed sharp poison fangs in its gaping maw.

[Sea Scale Snake, Attack Power 1800]

"Do you think such simple tricks can block my attack? You're underestimating me too much." The Dark Demon Bishop shouted fiercely, "Sea Scale Snake, direct attack!"

Yugen remained calm and lightly waved his hand.

"Then, the Trap Card 'Piercing Pitfall.' This turn, when the opponent's summoned or Special Summoned monster declares an attack, that monster is destroyed, and the opponent takes damage equal to half of the monster's original Attack Power."

The Sea Scale Snake suddenly swerved mid-charge and fell into a hidden deep pit. Metal spikes filled the pit, piercing it through.

The giant snake twisted its body desperately, struggled while screaming for a moment, and finally exploded with a bang.

[Dark Bishop, LP 4000→LP 3100]

"Ugh..."

The Bishop staggered back, gritting his teeth.

"Tch, such insidious tactics..."

But he quickly stood upright: "But my attack is not over yet.

I still have the Lion-headed Short-beaked Crocodile, direct attack!"

The crocodile's head had a mane-like, fluffy mass of hair like a lion, covered in hard reverse spikes like donning steel armor. It darted out like lightning, leaving deep claw marks on the ground with short, powerful limbs. The spikes made a piercing sound like sharp arrows as it ran.

The monsters summoned in this world are physical, and being struck by such a fierce beast puts psychological pressure on the Duelist that no external means could match.

"Truly terrifying... Then I'll activate the set card." Yugen raised another hand, "The Trap Card 'Prison Flame.' When the opponent declares an attack, discard a card to the graveyard, destroy the attacking monster, and inflict damage equal to half the monster's original Attack Power to the opponent." (Original Card)

Demon Bishop: "!!?"

Again?

Hellish flames erupted, instantly incinerating his once-arrogant short-beaked crocodile to ashes. The aftershock of the flames swept towards him, causing the Bishop to howl in pain.

[Demon Bishop, LP 3100→LP 2150]

"You bastard..." The Demon Bishop grimaced.

In one turn, three monsters were annihilated, and his Life Points were nearly halved. Yet the opponent hadn't even summoned a single monster...

He suddenly had a somewhat absurd thought.

Is this guy planning to just trap him to death?
