Location: The Suhe Valley — the corps road's end; the Suhe fork; the Suhe ford
Date: 10 Frostforge 9943 AZI, Quenchday, mid-morning → 11 Frostforge, Grindday, dusk
Realm: Lower Realm
First Company heard the Suhe a long while before the road let them see it.
It came up through the frost as a low noise under everything else, under the boots and the creak of bolt cases and somebody coughing in the fourth rank, steady as a bellows nobody was working. The corps road had been climbing since the last milestone. When it tipped over and started down, the noise got louder, and nobody in the column said anything about it, but the pace came up a little without Meifen having to ask for it.
