Green found her first.
The courtyard behind the Academy's north wing was empty. Jayde had walked there out of instinct — the trained need for enclosed ground with stone at her back and clear sightlines out. The mantis followed. Eden followed the mantis. The rest of the plateau was still working through the caskets and the bracelets and the fact that an army had materialized in formation on its front step, and nobody was looking at the north courtyard.
Green came through the archway at a walk. Five foot two. Fractured emerald eyes — the shattered-glass irises that no disguise artifact had ever been able to dull. Ash-blonde hair. She was wearing the healer's robe she wore at the Academy, the one that made her look like a junior practitioner and not something old enough that asking her age felt like asking a mountain how tall it was.
