Detroit, this abandoned automobile capital, has experienced extremely slow reconstruction since the last metal incident, as if the entire United States has forgotten about it.
The divine power of the Merciless Iron Fists leveled this place. Back when Su Ming arrived to help Diana, there were only ruins and debris.
Even now, not much has changed; burnt-out cars and broken bricks still occupy most of the city.
There's almost no one here anymore; this city is dying.
However, some people prefer such places, quiet, vacant, undisturbed.
A new building complex has been rebuilt on the city's outskirts, ranking first in the reconstruction sequence. Additionally, it includes a quasi-military zone, with two divisions of rapid response troops stationed around it.
Various new-style weapons can be seen here, with patrols occurring 24 hours a day.
The buildings above ground are just a facade, while the crucial institutions are all underground.
A super barrier cast with eight million tons of steel and alloy, a nuclear-proof facility; after the previous headquarters was destroyed, those above have been contemplating how to guard against divine power.
Unfortunately, there's no answer. How do humans contend with gods?
Let's rewind time a bit, back to when Su Ming and Barry were having lunch.
At this moment, in the underground command room in Detroit, a woman was sternly watching the large screens covering the walls, listening to her subordinates' reports.
"The target has landed in the Nevada desert, very close to the Air Force test field. We've dispatched troops, but encountered obstruction from the Justice League."
"Energy analysis has been completed. We've never seen this type of special energy nor such an immense total energy."
"The Justice League is beginning to expel our troops. Their mages have hidden the target, and our troops might even have their memories altered."
"Chief, the White House and United Nations are waiting for your report."
A series of unfavorable news rang out in the command room, yet the woman remained expressionless, arms crossed, standing firm.
She is a true patriot, and never trusts these Superpower Users.
At this moment, she is speculating where that thing, looking like a giant head, comes from and what its use might be.
Could it be the key to unlocking everyone's Superpowers? Or a weapon of immense power?
If so, the country needs it; humanity needs it. The Justice League must not claim it first; she must take action herself.
The woman released her arms, leaning against the railing in front of her. Looking at these workers before her, her gaze devoid of emotion.
"Report to the President and the Security Council, everything is going smoothly, and suggest they issue inquiries to the Justice League, using all means to entangle them, whether meetings, calls, or visits, any method is fine."
She turned and left the command room, returning to her office, where she opened a secret space on her desk, input a series of passwords, and retrieved a computer that looked like a briefcase.
The briefcase opened, and the display showed two rows of photo avatars, currently all in a red offline state.
In the pitch-black room, only the screen's light illuminated the woman's face, though her black skin made her look more like a demon.
She pulled a key from her pocket, inserted it somewhere in the box, twisted it, and input several commands on the keyboard.
The boxes around the photos all lit up green, indicating the bombs were activated.
She picked up the phone on the desk, dialed a number, and without any pleasantries or hesitation, issued an order: "Assemble the squad, fully armed; you have a mission."
...........
Harley was listlessly combing her hair in the cell. During the last major metal incident, she thought she would be free once she got down from the 'Christmas Tree.'
She could return to her home in New York and continue being a landlord.
However, Poison Ivy reminded her that the bomb in her head was remotely controlled by global satellites and would explode if she tried to remove it.
Of course, there are people on Earth like Steel Bone or Atom Hero who could easily disable such a bomb.
But Harley didn't want to seek them out; besides Bruce and Diana, she wasn't familiar with anyone else in the Justice League.
The United States Government has already regarded her as government property, and Batman won't face government inquiries for her sake.
She might be a bit mad, but she's not stupid. The Justice League claims to stand for justice, which means they don't have the courage to oppose human society or act against mainstream values.
As a psychologist, she sees this clearly.
So, she obediently returned here, actively seeking out Amanda Waller and was locked up again.
However, given her good behavior, Amanda granted her some privileges. Her cell now had an espresso machine, several comic books, a comb, and a mirror.
Such items are typically forbidden for dangerous prisoners like Harley, just like in the next cell where Killer Crocodile only has a filthy pool.
He always eats in the water, eating raw cattle and sheep, making the pool's smell like Gotham's sewers, disgusting. The stench constantly leaks through the iron bars into the next cell. Though she does miss that smell a bit, haha.
After breaking up with the Joker, she had a bit of depression. Fortunately, there was still the voice in her head, but that voice is gone now.
She finds things painfully boring now and hopes Little Red can initiate a jailbreak soon, take her out for a ride, and buy some stuff.
Whether her head would explode is another matter, but she wants to go out for a spin.
She lay down on the bed, flipping through comic books out of boredom, when suddenly she heard the sound of electronic doors far down the corridor.
She quickly rolled over, sat up with a grin, licking her lips as a guard opened her cell door shortly after.
"Madwoman, it's time to head out."
.............
Harley soon met her teammates in the conference room, Death Shooter, Boomerang, and other prisoners. Certainly present too were the government representative Captain Rick Flag and Samurai Sword.
The eternally dazed Witch had left the team, joining the Dark Justice League.
Another justice, Harley thought wryly, but the nauseating, obese black woman soon entered from outside.
"Suicide Squad, new mission: an alien artifact has landed in the Nevada desert. Our intel shows it's being guarded by some form of power. Currently, the Justice League is about to depart from there, I want you to investigate exactly what it is, and if possible, retrieve it."
The black woman issued her order directly, while casually waving her more portable tablet at the few, implying that, as usual, their lives were in her hands.
Harley blew bubble gum, twirling her hair and gazing at the ceiling, miffed that Amanda makes it sound so easy. It's not her who needs to face Superman.
She was already in divine travel mode, reminiscing about her days of freedom.
