I kept opening my mouth to say something and then closing it again, chickening out, because the thing I wanted to say was stuck in my throat like a giant embarrassing boulder and I wasn't sure if dropping it would make her laugh, freak out, or kick me out forever.
She noticed, of course. She always notices.
"Okay, spit it out," she said, propping her chin on my chest and staring up at me with those eyes that make my brain short-circuit. "You've been doing that goldfish thing for ten minutes. What's the big secret? You got a third nipple? You're actually Yu Jin in disguise? Tell me."
I groaned and covered my face with both hands. "It's worse than that."
"Worse than being your half-brother? Doubt it."
"Shut up," I mumbled through my fingers. "This is serious. Or embarrassing. Or both. I don't know."
