The Fairy Tail Guild was very harmonious; it was fine even if you didn't go to work. Aux had been idle for five full days. He was either at the Guild or in his dormitory, and if there was a downside, it was that he was a bit bored.
"Is this a newspaper?"
Today, still without work, Aux sat in his usual spot at the counter, sipping a different coffee from the other Guild members.
He inadvertently glimpsed a newspaper nearby and casually picked it up to read. The reports mainly covered who had defeated which Dark Guild, which Guild members made it into the newspaper based on their looks, or interviews with certain individuals.
"The newspaper arrived this morning. I saw a report about beautiful scenery in it, and thinking you'd be interested, I didn't throw it away," Mirajane said.
How thoughtful. Aux was indeed very keen on beautiful scenery; he had never forgotten his promise to travel the entire world. He unfolded the newspaper and saw the information Mirajane had mentioned—an aurora, a rare sight in a hundred years, and a bright, never-before-seen starry sky. The report was incredibly detailed, and the words alone captivated him.
"The location isn't far." He checked the address; the best viewing spot was still within the Fiore Kingdom.
"Mirajane, are you free? Let's go see the aurora together!" To witness such a romantic and beautiful scene, he definitely needed a beautiful companion. Mirajane's personality and looks perfectly matched his aesthetic; she was the best choice.
"Oh my~" Mirajane smiled, full of mirth. "Is Aux inviting me on a date?"
Her reaction left Aux unsure whether she liked the idea or not. Before he could say anything, Mirajane added, "The Master asked me to organize the library these past two days. Although I'd love to go out and see the aurora with you, I don't have time."
Aux nodded lightly. "Then we'll talk about it later."
"You could try Erza," Mirajane suggested. "She was the one who brought you to the Guild, after all."
Someone definitely needed to accompany him to see the aurora. Since Mirajane was busy, Aux looked toward Erza, who was calmly eating cake. Ever since joining the Guild, he had rarely seen her rest—she was constantly taking requests.
Aux walked over. "Erza, are you interested in seeing the aurora? It's a beautiful sight that only happens once in a hundred years."
Erza wiped her mouth. "No! It's not that I don't want to see it. I'm afraid that after seeing it, you'll want to sleep with me!"
Pfft—
Gray spat out his drink. Even Aux was stunned. Was he the kind of person who would take advantage of others? This girl was definitely misunderstanding him.
"Not long ago, I worked near the border and met a Noble Miss we rescued. Her exact words were: Aux bothered her all night, and her body was completely falling apart."
"That just proves you're a pervert! And you lied to me about being entangled with her brother all night. Clearly, you hid the truth because you had ulterior motives and wanted to sleep with me!" Erza continued, completely serious.
"Slander! That is slander!" Aux protested. He genuinely didn't do anything—he was the one being framed!
"The Noble Miss told me not to be alone with you, to stay far away, and to stop any girl from getting close to you," Erza insisted.
Aux was speechless. In Erza's eyes, the Noble Miss was probably giving kind advice… but from Aux's perspective, she was being possessive.
"Forget it." He felt exhausted just thinking about it.
He turned toward Cana and Levy next. If these two also refused, he would start doubting his own attractiveness.
Levy, who had overheard everything, blushed and shook her head. "I'm still young… I don't want a boyfriend so early."
Damn it. Another one thinking he'd act like a pervert.
Aux looked to Cana, who was drinking nonstop. Was it even safe to bring a drunk?
"Hic…" Cana hiccuped, then walked over, sat beside him, and slapped his chest. "If you can outdrink me, I'll let you arrange the date, the hotel room, everything!"
I'm out. Aux turned away with a dark expression. Cana was the Guild's strongest drinker—there was no way he could beat her. And this was supposed to be about the aurora; how did it turn into dating and hotel rooms?
Was he really that unlucky? With his looks, he couldn't get even one girl to accompany him? Who would believe that?
"Man, I'll go with you!" Elfman stepped forward confidently.
Aux ignored him. Seeing the aurora definitely required a woman.
He walked toward the request board to find a mission near the aurora's location—at least he could earn travel expenses.
"Poor Aux…"
"So heartless. The girls are so mean to him."
"Why didn't he invite me? I have time, and I'm totally okay with him touching m—"
"Girl, please look in the mirror first."
"Mourning~"
Some Guild members sympathized with him; some not-so-attractive girls tried offering themselves. Aux ignored all of it. He took a request and handed it to Mirajane.
"It seems the beautiful aurora will be enjoyed alone, Aux~" she teased while stamping it.
Aux said nothing and left the Guild.
On the way to the station, he finally realized the real reason no girl accepted his invitation.
Mirajane was genuinely busy; he could tell she didn't dislike him. Erza was familiar with him, but only on the level of comrades—and Jellal weighed far more in her heart.
The Noble Miss's words may have influenced her, but deeper than that was Jellal, a figure she still couldn't let go of.
Levy and Cana refused simply because they weren't close to him yet.
After all, he had only been in the Guild for less than a month. No girl would go on a romantic trip with a man she barely knew.
Cana was the exception, but that woman would date a stranger if drunk enough.
Analyzing it calmly, Aux realized it had nothing to do with his looks.
Feeling much lighter, he stopped worrying about whether going alone would feel awkward. He bought a train ticket and boarded the train toward the Great Plains.
