Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Powerful Rescue

Dr. Ke'er lowered her head to examine her hands, then walked to a large bottle resembling hand sanitizer, squeezed a few drops, and began rubbing her hands together. The scent of alcohol drifted over—so that was the doctors' hand disinfectant?

Even in such chaotic times, doctors remained doctors, forever maintaining their cleanliness!

The other rooms had all been checked. The operating room wasn't complex—just an empty space. Aside from a lone operating table, there were stainless-steel glass cabinets for surgical instruments and a workstation. No large cabinets or anything where a zombie could hide undetected.

The 22nd floor was completely secure.

We followed the devil doctor Ke'er to the surgical supply storage room. She opened cabinets and began pulling out items, murmuring terms we couldn't understand: "Large blades, small round blades, small pointed blades, hemostats, large hemostats, mosquito forceps, micro mosquito forceps, needle holders, tooth forceps, smooth forceps, buckle clamps, Allis forceps, dissectors, oval forceps, angled needles, round needles, muscle sutures, catgut sutures, peanut…"

I couldn't hold back any longer. Interrupting Dr. Ke'er and risking her disdain, I meekly asked on behalf of everyone present, "Dr. Ke'er, why would you need peanutsfor surgery? Is it to replenish the patient's energy or the doctor's stamina…?"

Dr. Ke'er calmly held up a small gauze-made item the size of a peanut. "This is called a KD pellet. We习惯 (habitually) call it a peanut."

Though she didn't explain what this "peanut" was for, I didn't dare追问 (press further). Even if she explained, I probably wouldn't understand. The priority was to work quickly and not waste precious time.

Under Dr. Ke'er's direction, we nearly emptied the surgical supply storage room.

Just as we finished, deafening gunfire erupted downstairs—boom! boom! The rescue team had arrived!

We quickly shouldered the boxes and rushed to the stairwell door but kept our distance since bullets were flying outside!

Speaking of bullets, we also习惯 called them "peanuts"! Thinking this, I glanced secretly at Dr. Ke'er. She remained perfectly calm, as if even if the sky fell outside, she wouldn't panic. It seemed med students were truly tough—probably after anatomy class, even the timidest girls had their胆 (gallbladder) scared out of them. Once gone, there was no胆 left to feel fear with.

Sorry, Dr. Ke'er, I secretly misjudged you. You're actually brave, meticulous, and highly skilled, okay?

The stairwell door finally fell silent. A man's voice roared outside, "Brothers! I'm here!"

That thick voice could only be A-Qiang!

The door opened, revealing A-Qiang's cocky face—but I really wanted to give him a huge hug!

"Sis Duo, this is all your fault! Why didn't you bring us? Afraid of wasting talent or our ammo?" A-Qiang joked, unaware we'd already lost some companions.

"Since there's so much manpower, bring an operating table back too!" Ke'er suddenly spoke, still expressionless. This girl was seriously cool.

"Sis Duo, we need to go to the pharmacy," Dr. Ke'er assigned another task.

Ugh, do we have to tour this damn hospital entirely? Is this the legendary free horror hospital adventure day?

"Surgical tools and disinfectants are all here, but there are no drugs in the surgical storage. Your friend isn't Guan Yu, who could play chess while having his bone scraped—he needs anesthesia! And anti-inflammatories! Besides, your compound has many people. If others get sick, we can't come here for meds every time. With so many people, don't waste talent!" Ke'er explained, adding a touch of humor.

The pharmacy was on the first floor. Our group carried the operating table and several large boxes,浩浩荡荡 (marching imposingly) down to the first floor. Going down was indeed easier than going up!

A zombie in a white coat was in the pharmacy. Only after we blew its head off did Dr. Ke'er say, "That was my colleague. We used to be close, often went karaoking together. He sang Andy Lau's songs especially well! A shame."

The pharmacy had too many drugs! We didn't know where to start. Dr. Ke'er had us empty several large boxes, then filled them herself with medications—boxed drugs, bottled solutions. Finally, she pointed to a sealed box: "Take that too. It's IV supplies!"

Back at the compound, we quickly prepared an empty room in the mansion building for Dr. Ke'er—cleared, cleaned, and disinfected. We temporarily turned the living room into an operating room, the master bedroom into Dr. Ke'er's prep room, and a guest room into an examination room. The compound finally had a temporary medical clinic!

Tang Songfa was helped to the clinic. When he saw the doctor was a young, beautiful woman, his face flushed red to his neck.

Dr. Ke'er looked at him expressionlessly, putting on her mask and gloves. "Pants off. Kneel by that bed. Hurry up! Let's aim to finish the surgery today!"

However reluctant, he had to treat the illness. Days of pain had weakened Tang Songfa's resolve. Ruowang patted his shoulder for encouragement: "Buddy, in front of a doctor, just think of yourself as a piece of pork! There's no gender distinction now—only patient and doctor! Hurry up. The more you delay, the harder she'll be. I'm not吓唬 (scaring) you!"

Was that encouragement or a赤裸裸 (barefaced) threat? Tang Songfa looked at me pitifully. On the way back, Dr. Ke'er heard I wanted to learn some medicine for future needs and agreed immediately. So from the first patient, I began learning under her. Ruowang, the internal medicine chief, was assigned as her surgical assistant.

Actually, Qiqi, a trained nurse, would've been most suitable. But Dr. Ke'er knew Qiqi was Ruowang's current girlfriend, and Qiqi knew Ke'er was his ex. I could guess with my toes—cooperation between them was impossible.

Women always have their little jealousies—perfectly normal!

"Looking at me won't make your pants come off!" I tried to encourage him, but my words sounded despairing.

Pain would surely outweigh embarrassment! Tang Songfa closed his eyes, resigned to his fate, took off his pants, and knelt by the bed. Dr. Ke'er gently pressed around his anus. He groaned twice in pain. Suddenly, she asked, "Do you have a girlfriend?"

Tang Songfa, lying there, was startled. Just as he answered, "Not yet…" Dr. Ke'er's finger swiftly performed a digital exam!

"OWW!!! MOTHER!!!" Tang Songfa let out a earth-shattering scream! I witnessed it all firsthand! Poor little Tang! Dr. Ke'er's question was just to distract him!

"Alright, get down. Surgery is necessary." Dr. Ke'er casually removed her gloves and tossed them into a trash bin.

Little Tang still lay there, not daring to move, only groaning—probably the pain hadn't subsided yet.

I wouldn't hesitate against zombies, but honestly, I couldn't bear to torture a living person like this. No wonder Dr. Ke'er didn't blink when dispatching zombies—seeing how she handled the living! Dealing with zombies was zero pressure for her!

"Normally, pre-surgery requires blood tests, blood pressure measurement, ECG… to prevent life-threatening complications during surgery. But given the patient's young age, some checks can be verbal." Dr. Ke'er explained this to teach me. She didn't need to justify her actions to us laymen. In the compound, she was the absolute authority.

"Patient, do you have heart disease? Family history of heart disease? Hypertension? Hereditary diseases? Allergies? Know what medications you're allergic to? What's your blood type?" As Tang Songfa slowly got up, Dr. Ke'er began a round of interrogation—no, inquiry. Right now, Tang Songfa reminded me of an underground party member under brutal interrogation… sigh…

Though verbal, seeing Tang Songfa's confused expression, Dr. Ke'er reluctantly took out a blood pressure cuff. His reading was slightly elevated. "Normal. He was just excited earlier. He doesn't have hypertension." Dr. Ke'er's conclusion made me stifle a laugh. Finding joy in others' suffering is immoral, immoral, immoral… I silently chanted twenty times!

Dr. Ke'er cleared her throat and continued, "Patient, have you had a bowel movement this morning? If not, an enema is needed."

Tang Songfa quickly nodded: "I had a big one this morning. Very thorough and clean."

Dr. Ke'er didn't even look up. "Don't lie to me. If the wound gets infected during surgery, it won't be just a simple procedure anymore."

Tang Songfa turned pale as dirt. He raised his right hand as if swearing: "Doctor, I wouldn't dare lie! Really did! Really!"

I was almost trembling for Tang Songfa. This poor bastard—why did he have to develop such an embarrassing acute illness in these times
