Tonia's POV
I let out a weary breath as I moved away from him to retrieve the ointment from the medical tray. "I ignored your calls because I had nothing to say to you."
Thank goodness I wasn't facing him when those words left my lips. I couldn't bear to witness whatever expression crossed his features.
I gathered the supplies I needed and returned to his side. The treatment was nearly complete. Just a couple more careful applications and I'd be finished.
The door swung open without warning, and Chaim walked in casually, carrying an extra bag of saline solution in one hand and a medical chart in the other.
His trademark cheerful smile spread across his face as always.
"Good afternoon, Alpha Kermit," he said, offering a respectful nod before turning his attention to me. "How are things progressing? Someone mentioned you might need this." He lifted the saline bag slightly.
"Thanks, but I won't need it. I'm nearly finished here." I kept my focus on Kermit' injured chest.
