Chapter 2 - Nahaar

But first, I needed to get used to this absurd situation. Everything was happening so fast that it felt surreal.

First, I died, then got transmigrated in the trashy novel that was giving me headaches, and in an even trashier character no less.

It didn't make any sense, and was nigh impossible to believe. But I was the living proof of it.

So to make myself more familiar with my situation, I decided to figure out exactly where I was at the moment. Maybe I could recognize the place if it was mentioned in the novel.

Besides I'm excited to see what this world looks like.

According to the novel, the technology in world of Nahaar is on the backfoot due to the existence of sorcery.

Does it bother me?

Not exactly. I mean, if everyone has access to inscriptions that can light up, cool, and even heat up their house, just by siphoning aether from the air, who would even have the time to waste on electricity?

Tearing my focus away from my reflection, I decided to take a view of where I was from the inconspicuous window at the corner of the room.

But the moment I took a single step, my body refused to move any further.

Then at that moment, my head was assaulted by a sharp blinding pain.

"Keuk!" A pained muffled groan escaped my lips.

It felt like my someone was crushing my head with a sledgehammer.

A few breaths under the agonizing pain, a set of memories not my own began to engrave themselves in my mind.

"Aaargghh!" This time I was screaming on top of my lungs. I lost my footing and fell to my knees as the blinding pain turned into a soul rendering one.

I began to remember a new life, familiar yet at the same time unfamiliar.

18 years worth of memories aligned with the memories of my 28 years worth in just a few seconds.

By the time everything was done, I couldn't keep my eyes open. I lost consciousness.

******

It was already morning by the time I woke up. The sun rays were cascading through the curtains.

At once, the events from last night came barging into my head with force like that of a freight train.

"So it really wasn't a dream!" I said to no one in particular while coming to terms with new set of memories in my head.

Damon's memories.

In a flash, I saw Damon's whole 18 years worth of memories. The bizarre thing was that the memories didn't feel foreign. Instead it was merely like I remembered something I had forgotten.

It was like I was the one actually living it. I felt like I was Damon myself.

But that's not possible.

"I am not Damon, I am...." My words trailed off.

"Wait... who am I?" My eyes went blank in confusion. Try all I could, I couldn't remember my name.

"....Shit!" Identity crisis right off the bat.

I still remember everything about my life... well almost everything.

From the faces of my parents to my job. In short, all my memories were intact, all except for my name.

It felt like I had it on my tongue, but just couldn't remember it. All that comes to my mind when I think of my name, was Damon Darkfell.

And the freaky thing about all these wasn't even the identity crisis.

Instead it was the fact that I wasn't freaking out about it.

Any sane person in my situation would have had an anxiety or panic attack. But maybe I wasn't all that sane to begin with.

"Huh!" Letting out a sigh, I decided to leave all the identity crisis crap to the future me.

Dealing with my current situation took priority.

Unlike before, now that I had my memo... no, Damon's memories, I knew exactly what situation I was in.

After being disowned and kicked out from the royal family a week back for reasons I'm not exactly prone to mentioning due to how embarrassing it was, Damon was left with only 50 gold knotts.

Which amounted to 500 silver knotts, or 5000 bronze knotts.

He then left the Darkfell capital, and came to Kida city. A city at the eastern reach of Vorde.

Banishment from a royal family or even a noble family was a big deal, after all once you lost the name and backing of your family, you would be targeted by other noble families or even rogue organizations for the family's secrets.

Thankfully my Sister had.... no Damon's older sister had the sympathy to get him a fake identity and 50 gold knotts.

Finally getting off the floor, I walked to the corner of the room where a featureless mask lay on the table before the mirror.

I had seen it the night before, when I checked my looks, but I didn't know what it was, and it was the least of my priorities.

Now though, I knew it was a face morphing artifact.

Placing the mask on my face, it melted seamlessly into my features, and there you have it, a fake face.

My drop dead gorgeous face had morphed into what one would call remarkably average. Even my jet black hair had lost it's lustrous texture and turned to brown.

This was the only way Damon was able to leave the capital unscathed. Without it, he would have been screwed a thousand times over.

Not to mention, Damon was infamous in Darkfell capital.

Thinking about it now that I have his memories. Although Damon had a vile personality, he had his very own dark origin story.

You see, Damon as a child, though talented, had always been overshadowed by his siblings. But it didn't particularly bother him much barring some feelings of envy.

But ever since his awakening ceremony, he was shut out by his parents and even siblings. The only one who seems to even acknowledge his existence was his older sister.

In this world strength was valued above all. And Damon? he had none of it, and no potential whatsoever.

Everyone in the world of Nahaar gets a chance to awaken at 16. That's when they'll get their status screen, and awaken their unique physique, and start on the path of Ascension.

But Damon unlike his siblings awakened a useless unique physique. A kappa ranked unique physique to be exact. Which is to say the lowest of the low.

One's unique physique rank is synonymous to their potential. If your unique physique was kappa, you couldn't move past the kappa rank. So for someone like Damon, his potential was pretty non-existent.

Damon gradually resorted to acting out, just so they could even pay him even a little attention. But as you can guess, it didn't work.

He developed an inferiority complex, so he started seeking solace in venting out his anger on others— on commoners or servants who couldn't fight back against him due to his status as a prince.

Eventually, Damon was disowned a few weeks ago for disgracing the royal family in a banquet. His very own engagement banquet.

But that's a story for another time.

Right now, I had to find my way to the island of Black Sands. That's where I'll find the cheat that'll propel me from an unqualified Cannon fodder, to a somewhat significant Cannon fodder.

Will the cheat I steal make changes to the story line? Maybe.

And did I care? Not really.

Me taking the cheat won't even impact the protagonist, because he didn't even need it in the first place. Just the horrendous plot being at play.

As for the story line, me already being here was enough to derail it.

I knew the risks. I knew that I could potentially create a butterfly effect. But against my own survival, it was... meh.

Making up my mind, I secured my belongings into my storage ring, and checked out of the inn.

Stepping outside the inn, I was hit by a cool gentle breeze.

Even though I already knew what this world looked like from Damon's memories. Seeing it myself just hits differently.

For someone like me who came for a modern world, the contrast was sharp.

Instead of highrise glass towers, there were layered structures and marbled stone buildings.

And as opposed to rush hour streets, there were wide cobblestone streets. And instead of modern vehicles, there were enchanted carriages that could be as small as a normal car from the outside, and as big as a house from the inside.

The sun rays filtering in between the buildings made it look even more mystical.

And at night, the enchanted street lamps more than make up for electricity.

"Fuuuu! How refreshing!" I let out a long breath.

Right now my priority was getting to the island of Black Sands. Everything else came second.

Though, today was April 12.

And the institution starts at May 20.

So I still have over a month to secure the cheat, and make my way to the academy.

But the main problem currently was that to get to the island of Black Sands, I'd have to cross the entire Vorde continent.

"Sigh. This is gonna be such a pain."

The world of Nahaar consists of six continents, and is called home by four races. Humans, Elves, Merfolk, and Demons.

Out of these six, the Elves occupy the Elven continent, the Demons occupy the Demon continent, and the humans that occupy the remaining four of the six. The Vorde, Remea, Drakara, and kamar continents. These four make up the human domain.

As for the Merfolk? they live in underwater Empires. Which I think is neat.

Back to the human domain.

kamar lies in the northwest of the human domain, touching Remea to the east and Drakara to the south.

Remea lies in the northeast of the human domain, bordered by kamar in the west and Vorde in the south.

Drakara is the southwest, neighboring kamar to the north and Vorde to the east.

While Vorde spreads across the southeast, bound to Remea in the north and Drakara in the west.

Each of the continents is ruled by one of the four empires of the human domain. The Vorde continent is ruled by the Darkfell empire.

The Remea continent is ruled by the Necron empire.

The Drakara continent is ruled by the Ashton empire.

And the Kamar continent is ruled by the Whetstone empire.

Black sands island, where I was planning to go, was situated somewhere between Vorde and Remea.

Even an airship would need a few days to reach the edge of the Vorde continent from where I was.

Letting out a long sigh, I made my way to a shop. There were things I needed to secure first. A map, a sword, a camping pack, and then food, a lot of food.

After getting everything I needed, I didn't waste anymore time, and soon, I found myself at the docks.

"Holy shit!" I stared, dumbstruck at the humongous vessels towering over me.
