Chapter 13 - An Eventful Fortnight

"NGGGRRRAAAH!"

A creature that resembled a bloated ape, and had a few patches of rotten flesh roared as it's tail snapped at a dark clad figure with insane speed.

The dark clad figure bent backwards, his back almost touching the ground in an impossible arc, making the tail barely fly past him.

"CRACK!" A vicious crack splinted the air, creating a small dust cloud as the ape's tail bit the ground.

"Whoosh!" A sharp blitz of frost about two meters high rapidly crept up to the ape's from the side, but it reacted with insane reflexes.

"BANG!" All it took was a punch from the ape's bloated limb, to completely shatter the walk of ice, sending it's shards flying through the air.

But just then, another figure whooshed past the ape with incredible speed, it tried to react, but the figure suddenly blurred before it's eyes and disappeared from it's view.

The ape was confused for a moment, but the sharp whistle of the air being cut through from behind it's back alerted it.

The ape swung it's arm behind in a vicious hook, but the figure it saw once again blurred before disappearing.

"Squelch!" The figure that disappeared from the ape's view, thrust an ice construct with the shape of a dagger into the creature's neck.

""NGGGRRRAAAH!!""

It let out another roar, this time in pain. The ape swung it's arm in an attempt to crush the figure, but the figure kicked off it's bloated chest, and leapt backwards.

With the ape distracted, another haze of frost crept up to its neck from the ground, before it could react, holding it in place.

"Whoosh!" the dark clad figure that had dodged it's tail rushed towards the ape in a trail of afterimages, taking the chance that the creature was limited in it's movements, to cut off it's head.

But the ape, with an intelligence that bellied it's undead nature, coiled it's muscles, and twisted it hips with a terrifying snarl, making the ice holding it down begin to crack.

But it was already too late, the dark clad figure's sword was already too close to it's neck.

"CHINK!" a dull sound echoed as steel met flesh. But the dark clad figure's sword stopped halfway through the creatures neck.

"NGGGRRRAAAH!" The ape cried in agony, it's bloated figure putting more pressure on the ice which continued to crack faster.

The dark clad figure strained his muscles, but the sword simply couldn't move an inch more. It was as if the ape's neck muscles were also made of steel.

"What the hell?!" the Damon muttered in disbelief. He gritted his teeth, leapt away and abandoned the sword because, because the next moment,

"BANG!" the ice holding the creature down shattered into shards as the creature broke free, albeit with a sword still stuck halfway through it's neck.

"Aiiiiish, why don't you just drop dead already you son of bitch!" Damon almost gripped his hair in frustration as the shards of ice the ape sent flying pelted him.

"You sure do have a gifted mouth with curses little brother." Ms present teased as she appeared by his side. "But you're right, that thing does have a surprising amount of tenacity. Even the dagger I stuck in it's throat didn't keep down."

Damon sighed.

The ape simply refused to die even with the injuries accumulated on it's body. And the worst part was that the bastard wasn't even capable of healing like the other undeads. In it's case it was just raw vitality, which was ironic for an undead creature.

'Whoever brought me into this hellscape called a fantasy world, curse your seven generations.' Damon inwardly cursed.

"Snap!" Damon hurtled backwards at great speed, before hitting the ground with a bounce. The the ape's tail had snapped wildly at him, hitting him square in the chest.

"Fucking shit!" he rolled to his feet. 'I got lost in thoughts.' Damon thought grimly. If it wasn't for the last moment defence he mustered by pooling a bulk of his aether to his chest, he was sure he would have been done for.

Even then, Damon could feel it, he was badly injured, and he was sure his chest bone was broken, not to mention some of his ribs piercing into his lungs.

The pain that was currently assaulting his pain receptors, even breathing was excruciatingly painful. We're it to be the past him before he transmigrated, he would have gone into shock, no debate.

"Splut!" he spat out blood to the side and cleaned his mouth with the tattered sleeve of his black shirt.

Ms present was weaving around the creature, taking it's aggro like child's play. Damon wasn't really sure about the full extents of her ability, but the more he watched her fight, the more he realized she was hiding a lot of things, just like he was.

It seemed every one had their secrets. Damon brought out a tube from his storage ring, it was the second to the last of his healing potions. Without hesitation, he uncorked the tube and chugged it's contents down.

A soothing sensation spread around his chest dulling the the pain for that moment, but it was more than enough.

With a burst of aether into his legs, Damon sped to Mira who stood to about six meters away from the fight trying to find a chance to freeze the ape once again.

"You look like shit!" she scowled.

And honestly he did, correction, they all did. He did a double take on Mira, she looked pale to the extent of gaining a white sheen. Probably because of the amount of aether she had expended.

"Make me a sword, preferably one that wouldn't crack just by coming in contact with it's body." Damon muttered.

She didn't refuse.

An ice construct began manifesting in her hand, slowly taking the shape of a sword, until it became as durable, and as sharp as steel if not more.

"Make it count, I don't have enough aether for another." she extended the sword to him.

Damon nodded grimly, as he collected the sword shaped construct.

'It's a little heavier than my sword, but it'll do.' he thought weighing it.

But he didn't enter the fight back just yet, he was still not healed enough for battle. Give or take a minute or two, and he'd be healed just enough that merely breathing wouldn't send aggressive shots of pain through his lungs.

A minute and a half later, just as the ape swung it's bloated arm behind it in an attempt to catch the pesky pest that had been getting on it's nerve, Damon angled his new sword and burst forward in a series of afterimages.

His target wasn't the ape itself, but the half embedded sword in it's neck.

"Clang!" A sharp sound of metal meeting metal sounded out. Damon had struck the blade of the sword.

The sword went a few centimeters into the ape's neck. But the ape wasn't having it, it completely forgo it's pursuit of Ms present, and swung it's tail at Damon with vicious intent.

"NGGGRRRAAAH!"

But Damon also wasn't going to sit there and get hit a second time. He leapt backwards, his arms trembled as he blocked the tail with his new sword, but was still sent skidding on his boots.

Jus as the ape's focus turned to Damon, a slender hand held onto the hilt of the sword stuck in the fiend's neck, and moved it with all the strength it could muster, to finish the job.

The blade moved another few centimeters further in, but Ms present also had to abandon ship as the creature's attention turned to her.

As Ms present began weaving around the ape with insane speed,

"Clang!" Damon managed to hit the the sword's blade once again, shifting it in by about three centimeters more, but the ice blade also shattered in the process.

The beast got even more erratic, swinging and missing, and for the final time, Ms present's hand closed on the sword hilt, and she pulled, the resistance of the fiend's neck gave way, finally separating the bastard from it's head.

The head landed with a soft thud, and it's body soon followed, collapsing in a heap of flesh.

"Ahhh, finally you bastard!" Damon cursed, getting on his knees. And he wasn't the only one, Mira was also exhausted. As she had to be constantly reinforcing the ice that held onto the creature.

The only anomaly seemed to be Ms present. She looked more normal than them, but even she couldn't escape a few beads of sweat on her forehead.

And not only that, all three of them looked drained, mainly for the fact that they had been rationing their food. It had been two weeks since they set out after all.

Through out those two weeks, they had met many creatures. They avoided some due to damon's 'scouting' ability, slayed the ones they couldn't avoid, and barely escaped from some. And to top it off, the food they had been betting on finished four days ago.

In the end Damon had no choice but to bring out the corpse of a certain blue tiger beast which almost made Mira freeze him into an ice sculpture.

After that ordeal passed, they smoked the beast, and made it's meat into jerky. As for water, they simply had Mira make ice inside a bottle, and drank when it melted.

All in all, It had been an eventful fortnight.
