The Next Day — The Day of the Academy
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the Uchiha household.
Indra sat quietly at the dining table, having breakfast with Sakura.
Sarada had already left earlier, wanting to reach the Academy ahead of time to meet her friends.
After finishing his meal, Indra stood, slipped on his shoes, and opened the door.
Behind him, Sakura called out warmly,
"Indra, honey, have a good time at the Academy—and try to make some friends, okay?"
"I'll try my best, Mother," Indra replied in his usual calm tone before stepping outside.
Watching his back as he left, Sakura sighed softly.
"He really takes after Sasuke-kun," she murmured to herself. "I just hope he makes some friends…"
Her expression softened with a hint of sadness as she whispered quietly,
"Sasuke-kun… when will you be back?"
Back to Indra
Leaping from rooftop to rooftop, Indra made his way toward the Shinobi Academy, his movement smooth and effortless. The village of Konoha bustled below, but he stayed high above, lost in thought.
Suddenly, he paused mid-leap.
A chill crept up his spine.
"...What is this chakra?"
He landed on a rooftop, eyes narrowing. The air felt heavy — thick with malice. His Sharingan spun to life, the red tomoe glinting as he scanned the surroundings.
He quickly located the source: a moving train near the edge of the city, surrounded by a dark, ominous chakra.
But there was something else.
He sensed three other chakra signatures inside the train.
"Hmm… Boruto's chakra—and two other weak ones," Indra thought, his tone indifferent. "Might as well take a look."
With that, he vanished in a flicker of lightning.
In an instant, he appeared on top of the moving train.
The wind roared past him as he crouched low, focusing chakra into his fist.
Then—boom!
He smashed through the roof with a single chakra-enhanced punch, landing smoothly inside the carriage.
"W-what the—?!"
The two random kids screamed in shock, falling backward in panic.
Boruto nearly dropped his snack, eyes wide.
"INDRA?! What the hell are you doing?!" he yelled.
Indra straightened up, brushing some dust from his sleeve. His Sharingan slowly faded back to black.
"Relax," he said calmly. "There's an evil chakra signature attached to this train. I came to check it out."
Boruto blinked, still startled. "Evil… chakra?"
Before Indra could answer, he noticed another boy—Denki—sitting quietly nearby, staring at him blankly. His eyes were glazed, his expression emotionless.
"…There it is," Indra muttered under his breath, focusing on the strange, dark aura swirling faintly around Denki.
He could sense it now — the same sinister chakra he'd felt earlier, wrapping tightly around the boy's chakra network.
"Looks like I found the source."
Boruto finally snapped out of his shock, blinking before pointing at Indra.
"Oh, hey Indra! What are you doing here?"
Indra didn't reply right away. He simply stared at Boruto, his Sharingan spinning slowly — the red glow reflecting in his calm, unblinking eyes.
Boruto felt a cold sweat trickle down his forehead.
After a few tense seconds, Indra spoke — his voice cold, carrying a faint edge.
"I sensed an evil chakra here. And to my surprise, I find you — the son of the Hokage — along with a couple of nobodies. So the real question is… what the hell is going on here?"
Boruto gritted his teeth, sighing before replying.
"Look, temp… I don't really know! One day Denki was fine, and the next, he's acting all possessed or something—datebasa!"
Indra raised an eyebrow at Boruto's tic-mark and turned his attention to Denki, who sat eerily still, his eyes blank and unfocused. The dark chakra around him pulsed faintly.
Indra sighed.
"Alright, listen up, idiot. He's about to blow up this train, so figure something out to stop it. I, on the other hand, will knock some sense into Denki."
Boruto nodded, muttering under his breath, and created several shadow clones that rushed toward the front of the train to stop it.
Indra refocused on Denki, whose lips started to move — but before he could say a word, Indra's Sharingan spun again.
"Genjutsu," he muttered.
Denki froze instantly. In the same motion, Indra vanished with a lightning-style body flicker, appearing behind him and delivering a swift karate chop to the back of the neck. Denki collapsed, unconscious.
Indra turned back toward Boruto, who was struggling with the controls at the front of the carriage.
"Do it now, idiot!!!" Indra shouted.
Boruto yelled back, "I'm trying, dattebasa!" He and his clones pulled desperately at the brakes.
The train screeched, metal grinding — but it was too late.
The entire carriage lurched upward, lifting off the tracks.
"Damn it!" Indra cursed under his breath. "Everyone, grab onto me—now!"
The two random kids clung to him immediately. Indra formed two shadow clones, each grabbing Denki and Boruto just as the train exploded forward through the air.
Just as the train was about to crash into the Hokage Rock, Indra's Lightning Style: Body Flicker activated.
In a flash of blue lightning, everyone vanished from the carriage — disappearing an instant before impact.
Moments later, they reappeared on top of the wrecked train, the air filled with smoke and the sound of screeching metal.
Boruto was the first to step out, grinning like an idiot.
"Mark Boruto Uzumaki as present, dattebasa!" he shouted proudly, throwing a thumbs-up.
Indra's eyebrow twitched in irritation.
Suddenly, Konohamaru appeared, grabbing Boruto in a headlock.
"Boruto! What were you thinking getting others involved!?" he yelled.
"Wait! Big bro Konohamaru, I can explain!" Boruto squealed, flailing his arms.
"That's Sensei, you brat!" Konohamaru barked back.
Indra stepped out of the wreckage next, brushing some dust off his white kimono.
Boruto looked over and smirked.
"Oh hey, Indra! I never got to thank you for the backup earlier!"
Indra grunted, crossing his arms.
"Don't think this makes us buddies, idiot."
Boruto puffed his cheeks.
"Oi, oi! Why are you always so cold and moody!?"
Indra shot him a cold glare.
"Shut up, idiot."
That was the final spark.
Boruto broke free of Konohamaru's hold and grabbed Indra by the collar.
"What did you say, teme?!"
Indra grabbed his collar right back, eyes narrowing.
"You heard me, baka."
For the next few minutes, the two stood there, arguing and hurling insults back and forth — neither willing to back down.
Indra could feel his temper rising for no reason at all.
(Why does this idiot always get under my skin?) he thought with an irritated sigh.
Down below, Himawari and Sarada stood among the crowd, exchanging helpless glances.
Both girls sighed in unison, watching their brothers' ridiculous antics.
Up on a nearby cliff, Naruto Uzumaki looked down at the scene — part shocked, part nostalgic.
His eyes narrowed when he saw the destroyed Hokage Rock.
"Unbelievable…" he muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose.
But when his gaze shifted to Indra, he paused.
"Wait… that's Sasuke's kid, right? I've barely met him, but Himawari talks about him all the time…" he murmured.
A faint, almost comical jealousy flickered in Naruto's chest — the overprotective father in him not too happy about his precious daughter spending time with another boy.
Still, watching Boruto and Indra bicker, Naruto couldn't help but smile faintly.
(They really do remind me of me and Sasuke back in the day...)
He sighed, deciding to let them off — for now.
Punishments could wait until later.
Within Naruto's Mindscape
Deep inside Naruto's subconscious, within the vast darkness of his inner world, a pair of enormous crimson eyes suddenly opened.
Kurama — the Nine-Tails — stirred from his slumber. His pupils contracted sharply, his senses flaring.
That chakra… it was unmistakable.
For a moment, the ancient fox said nothing, simply focusing through Naruto's senses, tracing the faint residue of the energy he had just felt. When he finally found its source, his expression darkened.
"No… that can't be."
The massive beast's tails twitched uneasily, his growl echoing through the empty chamber.
"It's impossible. He's long gone. He must just resemble him... after all, he is the son of his reincarnation…"
Kurama closed his eyes briefly, his voice dropping to a low rumble.
"No matter what, I have to look into this."
Then, in a whisper only the void could hear, he murmured—
"Indra… is that really you?"
Meanwhile, the other students stood there awkwardly, sweat-dropping as the two prodigies continued their shouting match.
If one looked closely, though — just for an instant — they could see two faint chakra silhouettes standing behind the boys:
the shadow of Ashura Ōtsutsuki behind Boruto…
and the shadow of Indra Ōtsutsuki behind Indra Uchiha.
Two ancient souls, reborn — and their rivalry… was just beginning.
"The destiny of the two brothers continues... What fate awaits them in the days to come?"
So I decided to make boruto the reincarnation of ashura, because without the rivalry between Indra and ashura I feel like there is something always missing so yeah,
To be continued.
