Chapter 27 - Killing the unkillable

The bikes tore through the dark, engines howling as if chased by something older than fear. The gas station lights vanished behind them, shrinking into a trembling dot swallowed by the forest.

Tyler's breath came sharp and ragged inside his helmet. He hadn't even processed what he'd seen — the shape crouched by the pumps, its body twisting like smoke given flesh, the Hyde's eyes reflecting every ounce of primal wrongness.

Now it felt like the night itself was chasing them.

"Toji, what the hell was that?" Tyler's voice asked again disgarding what Toji had said previously, shaken but trying to hold steady.

"Don't look back," Toji said. His voice stayed calm, flat, but his hand twisted the throttle harder. The Ducati growled like a beast hungry for road.

"That wasn't—"

"Not human," Toji finished for him. "Keep your head straight."

They sped down the highway, weaving between patches of moonlight and shadow. The forest thickened on both sides, the wind screaming past their helmets. Tyler kept glancing at his mirrors, but all he saw was dark — no headlights, no shape, just emptiness.

But something was off.

He could feel it in his ribs — a pressure, like being watched from every angle. The kind of feeling you don't shake, no matter how fast you move.

"Toji, it's still following us."

"Yeah," Toji said quietly. "It hunts by instinct… and command."

Tyler frowned. "Command? What, like it's trained?"

"Not trained." Toji's tone shifted — colder, heavier. "Bound."

The word lingered in the comms, heavy as lead.

Suddenly, a blur of movement flickered in Tyler's mirror — something massive, bounding through the trees beside the road. Bark exploded as claws tore past a trunk. Then another leap — closer.

"TOJIIII!"

"I see it."

The Wendigo broke through the treeline.

It wasn't just tall. It was skeletal, towering, its limbs stretched too far for a living thing. Antlers jutted from its skull like shattered bone, and its breath came out in fog that froze the grass beneath it. It hit the road on all fours, metal screaming under its claws.

Tyler's heart hammered. "WHAT—IS—THAT!"

Toji's answered him the second time. His voice flat as if telling the weather instead of whatever this ugly undead fuck standing Infront of him like a bitch was

. "A Wendigo."

Tyler blinked. "You mean, like, folklore Wendigo? Cannibal snow demon Wendigo?"

"That's the one."

"WHY IS IT HERE?!"

Toji smirked faintly behind his helmet. "Guess it likes you."

"Dude, NOT Fucking funny—"

Before he could finish, the Wendigo lunged. The ground cracked under its weight, claws carving gouges into asphalt. Toji swerved left, the bike tilting so low sparks sprayed from the foot peg. Tyler followed, but his front tire clipped a piece of rubble — boom — the wheel burst. His bike spun sideways, throwing him off.

"Tyler!" Toji said calmly.

Tyler hit the dirt, rolling until he slammed into a roadside barrier. Pain shot through his shoulder, but adrenaline drowned it out. The bike lay smoking beside him, the rim bent and tire shredded.

Toji skidded to a halt a few meters ahead, dust rising around him. He swung a leg off the Ducati, cracked his neck once, and turned — expression unreadable. The Wendigo crouched at the edge of the forest, steam rising from its breath.

"Toji, we gotta run!" Tyler shouted, limping to his feet.

"No point," Toji said simply. "It's would catch up no matter what we do"

Tyler froze. "So what, we just die here?"

Toji's gripped his hand. "Not today."

The Wendigo moved first — a blur of muscle and bone. Toji sidestepped, the creature's claw grazing the air where his throat had been. He countered instantly, punching upward, Toji fist did deep, but instead of blood, black frost like goo hissed from the wound.

Tyler staggered back, watching the thing heal. The flesh pulled itself together, reforming around bone.Thinking to himself aren't they immortal.

"You can't kill that!" Tyler yelled.

Toji didn't answer. He pivoted, kicked the monster's knee backward until it cracked. The Wendigo howled, sweeping its arm out, sending Toji flying into a tree with enough force to splinter bark.

"Toji!"

He stood back up like nothing happened.

"Okay. That stung."

The Wendigo charged again, but Toji met it head-on this time — bare fists glowing faintly with Reversal energy. Every hit landed like thunder, cracking ribs, shattering teeth, until the forest echoed with sound.

Still, it wasn't enough. The thing kept healing, kept coming.Although it's healing was slower then before

Tyler's hands shook. His instincts screamed, not just from fear — from something deeper, older, burning beneath his skin. His vision blurred, breath quickening.

"Toji!" he shouted. "Move!"

But Toji was pinned, claws digging into his shoulder, the Wendigo's face inches from his.

{Author note:- he's doing this on purpose }

Just when it seemed hopeless Something snapped inside Tyler. His pupils split, his veins darkened, and his teeth elongated. His body convulsed, muscles twisting, reforming under the moonlight. The Hyde was no longer hiding.

In one brutal motion, he tackled the Wendigo off Toji, roaring loud enough to shake the trees. They slammed into the asphalt, Tyler's hands ripping at the creature's throat like a wild beast. The Wendigo shrieked and clawed back, sparks flying as its limbs tore through the road.

Tyler, now fully Hyde, ripped the creature's arm clean off and tossed it aside. His monstrous form turned toward Toji, half-expecting fear, disgust—something.

Toji straightened, brushing dirt from his jacket. "Well," Toji said crosseing his arms. "...That explains the eyes."

Tyler froze voice coming out strained. "You—wait—you're not freaked out?"

"No," Toji said flatly. "You still talk too much, monster or not."

The Hyde snarled, half-human voice buried in a growl. "You—still—stand—there?!"

Toji shrugged, cracking his knuckles. "Just wanted to be sure before I kill it."

Together, they charged. They looked like lovers

Tyler tore into its flank while Toji struck its skull with enough force to crater it. The Wendigo tried to retreat, but Toji slammed his fust into its chest, flooding it with reversal energy. Light burst from the wound — not white, but red like dawn. The Wendigo convulsed, then shattered into ash and frost.

The forest fell silent again.

Tyler collapsed onto the road, gasping. His claws slowly retracted, eyes returning to normal. Toji walked over

"You knew?" Tyler panted.

"Didn't have to," Toji said simply. "You're still you."

Tyler blinked, then started laughing — the kind of laugh that comes after too much fear. "You mean you don't care I just—turned into that?"

Toji crouched, picking up a piece of Tyler's shattered helmet. "Tyler, I've seen worse. You helped kill that thing. That's what matters."

Tyler smiled, breath still shaking. "Guess that makes us… freaks together."

Toji stood, smirking faintly. "Speak for yourself."

The night wind swept through the broken trees, carrying the scent of smoke and cold. Somewhere far behind, the gas station lights flickered out completely.

They were alone again

Tyler, now human, slumped to the ground. "You're seriously okay with this? You saw what I am."

Toji looked at him, voice calm. "You didn't hurt me. You didn't run. That's what matters."

Tyler blinked, eyes wide, then laughed weakly. "Damn… finally someone who doesn't look at me like I'm a freak."

"You are a freak," Toji said, already walking toward the bikes. "Just not the bad kind."

Tyler grinned, the kind of grin that came from a lifetime of being misunderstood. "Man… you might be the first real friend I've had."

Toji smirked faintly. "Don't get soft on me now. You're still paying for that tire."

Tyler snorted, limping after him. "Yeah, yeah. Next time, you're riding alone."Although anyone can tell he's lying

As they started their walk toward the bike

the night wind shifted behind them—cold, whispering, hungry.

The Wendigo's ashes were gone. But its whisper lingered.
